Practical and healthy - Edit
The idea definetely tastes better than the food. Vegan, no preservatives, no GMO, no artificial flavors or fats, mostly gluten-free... Of course you have a bit of a trade off on the flavor. I still enjoyed the laksa and the tofu tart, not too crazy about the sweets and they were out of the flan, which looked better than the rest of the fixed displayed menu. Very convenient and healthy, so plus points for that. Small and cute venue too.

Always fresh - Edit
Have grabbed something here many times. The salads are always super fresh and delicious and I love the rice balls.

Healthy and connvenient - Edit
Iku is a great chain store for healthier vegan foods, they usually have some Asian dishes as well as lasagne, pies pastires etc but made with wholefoods. It’s not the kind of place hou would take a non-vegan as the food isn’t ‘passable’ and does seem to lean towards focusing more on health than on taste, but still enjoyable food and In some suburbs such as North Sydney and Neutral Bay it’s one of the most convenient fully Vegan restaurants.

Fresh/healthy Plantbased Fastfood - Edit
In an area with no fully plantbased spots (that we could find while on holiday here) it was amazing to stumble upon Iku. The prices are moderate but the servings we super fresh, decent sizes and of course all vegan options. Would recommend.

Good macrobiotic option - Edit
Edit August 2018 (original review from 10 years ago)
Read moreUnfortunately the quality of food seems to be way down at Iku these days, plus there have been significant price increases. I used to like their dahl, curry and casserole but the last times I ate there it was way too salty. I think I'm done with Iku.
As stated in some other Iku reviews the food is the same at all outlets. It's interesting to see how many there are now - in the '90s it was just Glebe. They have a range of dishes - casserole, salads, patties etc that change daily. I'm a big fan of some of the caseroles. They have a great desert - choc adzuki slice with soy cream, which doesn't seem to show up on the menu as much as it used to. Rice balls & millet balls are also good.

I coo for Iku - Edit
I was staying just down the road from Iku for about 4-5 days and got take out there 4 times. The salad bar was really tasty, very generous serving. I tried the lasagne which I loved and tried one other heated meal which was dry and not so nice. But overall I was really impressed and if I lived in Sydney, Iku would be my regular lunch stop.

Careful if you are expecting wholefoods. - Edit
If you are a wholefoodist, then even though the name of this place suggests all the food is whole, not all of it is. You need to read all the ingredients. The ingredients of most of their dishes are on their website.

2 star for a 100% vegan Sydney institution is harsh. The place has evolved over the years but it’s still the healthiest vegan eatery in Sydney by far.
