Great downtown location to grab a sandwich - Edit
Ike's is a great addition to the vegan options in downtown San Jose. They have quite a few veg sandwiches (which they list in a separate section.) Most of them have fake meat (but not all). Be sure to ASK FOR vegan if you want vegan. They have vegan cheese and vegan "dirty sauce" (their general sandwich spread).
Read moreFor the most part the staff is vegan aware and helpful. Certainly much more so than your average sandwich shop. But do note that you need to ask for vegan cheese (or for the entire sandwich to be vegan), and the pesto has cheese in it (so leave that off).
If you are not big on fake meat, then I'd recommend the sandwich "sometimes I'm a vegetarian" which has grilled mushrooms and artichokes on it.

A good, reliable chain with so many choices. Sandwiches are big enough to split for us most of the time. The sauce is really garlicky, but so very yummy.

We stopped by Ike's for lunch and I was happy to see there was a whole section of the menu that was vegetarian and could easily be made vegan. I got the dick vermeil and it was delicious. The ham tasted like real ham! The vegan cheese was a little gooey but still tasted great. Highly recommend.

I Love Ike's! - Edit
Ike's is my favorite vegan sandwich place in South Bay. They have a good selection of (labeled) vegetarian sandwiches, most of which can be made vegan (must ask)! The vegan fake meats and cheeses, they offer, create a great tasting experience for their vegan sandwiches, and the sandwiches are fairly large potions! I've have left Ike's satisfied time and time again.
