Ike's Longtime for Vegan Options - This Branch has Improved Service - Edit
I have been going to Ike's Oakland weekly or so since starting work in the area in 2017. Also, I have been getting Ike's here and there over the years going back to that first building on 16th St SF when it was Ike behind the table selling sandwiches out the side door. I gotta say there was a big change for the positive in the Oakland shop about a year ago. True that over the years there were great people taking orders at the register, but when Violetta took that over, things improved markedly. She is so very personable and cheerful and I would think Ike's should know their customers notice they have such a positive presence for their company. She got to know the few sandwiches I was ordering due to my limited vegan diet and then started offering other sandwiches to try, which I loved. The menu always offered to go online, but I am happy to see the menu on the wall redone in recent months, with so many more vegan choices. The other drastic improvement is the turnaround on orders. I used to dread going to Ike's because I knew it would be a minimum half hour and up to an hour honestly from my nearby office to when I got my sandwich. Since Violetta came on, the sandwich comes out promptly. I consider a trip to Ike's a 10 minute trip from my busy working day instead. She lets you know the wait when you order and has been shocking me by saying seven minutes consistently, and has recently noted five.As you can see, the substantial improvement in customer experience in the last year. They are doing a great job there for the customers. In the past, it had the vibe that you were doing them a favor by going there, which was a real turn off.

The Meatless Mike sandwich was delicious!!! - Edit
This is is great spot to grab a vegan sub, especially if you are with a non-vegan crowd. I got the vegan Meatless Mike, which is their meatball sub, and it was delicious. Apparently PETA has recognized their vegan meatballs as being some of the best (I found this amusing). The sub also had vegan provolone cheese and marinara. At $9.99, the price wasn't too bad either--I would say it was absolutely worth it for what I got. I can't wait to return to try their other options!

vegan sandwich options - Edit
I stopped in for lunch with a friend. There was a line as it was peak lunchtime, but it moved fairly quickly. The menu lists several vegan options, but when I ordered, I had to ask about the bread (whole wheat is not vegan) and repeat that I wanted everything vegan. We both ordered the Pilgrim sandwich which was good. They also give lollipops in the bag and the staff remembered at the last second to double check if we wanted vegan ones, so we swapped ours out. Overall, a good place to grab a quick bite.

Awesome place! - Edit
Stopped here to grab a sandwich for the trip back to LA and was surprised with all the vegan sandwich options! My cashier was vegan and knowledgeable about the vegan options. I decided to go with the meatball sandwich and was happy with my choice. Definitely give this place a try!

Disappointing for vegans! - Edit
The sandwich options seemed good standing in line, but when it came time to order, the cashier said the sandwich I wanted was unavailable. I tried to select another one, but again, she said it wasn't available since they didn't have the breaded vegetable needed for the ingredients! The only option she suggested was just some vegetables in between bread, nothing that Subway couldn't do. My friend got a turkey sandwich and said the flavor was fine, but the portions were painfully small and overpriced. I will not be returning!
