Nice place, good Vietnamese vegan food - Edit
Friendly and helpful staff. Supports special dietary requests (no onion / no garlic etc).
Read moreGreat food, tried the rice paper rolls (yummy lemongrass sauce that came with it), spring rolls and peking duck.
The spring rolls and peking duck were good but could have more accompanying salads.
Interesting snacks available for purchase at the counter. The fried spiced seaweed snack is delicious ($6 for a small zip lock bag).

Yum - Edit
Great vegan pho that’s flavorful. Not such a fan of fake meat, wish there were more use of vegetables or other alternatives. HUGE portions so be careful of over-ordering.

Only if you like fake meat and are not in a rush - Edit
This place is fake meat focussed; very limited in terms of veggies (if veggies are your preference this is not the place for you). I read the reviews and thought "it can't be that bad, surely they have some vegetable based dishes"; nope, the dishes with vegetables listed are mostly fake meat.
Read moreThey also took ages to make the food (45 minutes at 5pm, despite there only being 2 tables with people at them, perhaps there were lots of take-away orders?).
The fake meat was not that great, and the dishes we had didn't have much flavour.
Note 'sate' means chilli, not "satay".
The free green tea was nice.
Pros: Free green tea
Cons: Too much fake meat, Bland, Long wait time for food to be made

Salt and pepper tofu was awesome and sizzling beef was also great. The mock meat was fantastic and the sauce of the beef was so yum. Forgot to take a photo of the beef oops

Huge portions, food so tasty!! - Edit
We ordered sizzling beef, salt and pepper tofu, and the sweet and sour flounder. The staff recommended we get a bowl of rice too as none of the dishes came with any, and I also got the ice coffee. Total $95, but there was so much food we had enough for dinner too!! I particularly recommend the sizzling beef and the tofu, but the flounder was great too. Really enjoyed eating here and will be back again to try the rest of the menu.

Lovely vegan Vietnamese - Edit
Vietnamese flavours are just the best, and Huong Viet does them well and 100% vegan 😍🌱
Read moreThe steamed dumplings (dim sims) were nice, the Ban Xeo pancake was big enough for two (and real street food vibes), and the Spicy Tofu was nice (but word of warning it’s HOT).
A great place for lunch, we will be back.
Pros: Awesome Vietnamese flavours , Ban Xeo pancake , Friendly helpful owner (with GF reqs)

Mushrooms mock meat and veggies on clay pot
Sizzling beef
Tofu in spicy lemongrass
Broken rice
Everything was bomb
I am super happy with the food here
Big venue as well

Pros: Vegan mock meat , Price and value , Taste!!!

Tasty Pho - Edit
Updated review from March 2024
Read moreWe love coming to Huong Viet and come pretty often. They have reliable delicious food that we don’t have to wait long for. Our favourites are spring rolls or mock Peking duck rolls for entree. For mains my favourite is the satay noodle salad with mock chicken (which has a good mix of veggies and mock meat) and the mock chicken is deliciously crispy.
There’s lots of indoor seating and we like sitting near the window to watch what’s going on in the street. There’s a big television on all the time which we would prefer not to have. Staff are friendly and willing to change mock meat to tofu as is my preference (except for the incredibly delicious crispy mock chicken mentioned above). There are sometimes minor issues (like forget to bring an extra glasses for water when another person arrives at table).
I would love it if there were more dishes with a mix of several vegetables and tofu (or the crispy mock chicken) as most of the dishes seem to have a lot of mock meat/tofu and minimal vegetable. There are a few dishes with just greens, but it would be great if there were more dishes with just vegetables but a mix of coloured/green vegetables.
Review from 2017:
I had pho which was tasty. I asked for just faux chicken (no other mock meats) in the soup as I don't like other kinds much and staff were happy to help. Most of the menu is vegan and service was quick. As others have said, the servings are large. I plan to go back and try more of the menu.

I loved the Pho - Edit
I got the combination meat pho.

I wish the US used the same type of noodles.

Something wrong - Edit
Yummy, but the wait was an hour for our food... They must have been down on staff or something last night, because normally isn't like that there. It would have been nice if they'd warned us when we rang ahead for a table, or before we ordered even. Noodle soup was good, and mock duck fried rice with Chinese broccoli 👍🏼

100% vegan. Did not like the cold pork dish. Broth of the vegan pho was great, but one of the faux meats I didn’t like. Also enjoyed the duck pancakes (delicious) and a tasty noodle dish. Very nice food and you could easily pick something new every time!

Vegans and non vegans would love this - Edit
This was the first Vietnamese vegan restaurant we’ve been to since our arrival in Melbourne. Compared to Sydney, this is more expensive. The “seafood” style dishes like “bún riêu” and “bánh canh cua bò” would definitely suit the palates of those who enjoy the almost authentic aromas of vege “seafood”. If I was to come back, I would try their other food options on their huge menu.
Read morePros: Good food presentation , Close to the train station , Plenty of vegan options
Cons: Very expensive , Takeaway boxes are 50 cents

The duck! Vegan duck pancakes are so much fun! Always fresh delicious ingredients. Loving the vegan duck & rice with broccoli as well, but duck pancakes are the best. So quick as well.

Huong Viet Vegan is a shining star in Melbourne's culinary scene, serving vegan Vietnamese cuisine that surpasses expectations. Their dishes are a fusion of innovation and authenticity, with the Beyond Pho and Bun Bo Hue standing out as prime examples.

Moreover, their varied vegan snack options offer the perfect sidekicks to these stellar main courses. The ambiance is welcoming, and the staff, attentive and well-informed, ensures a dining experience par excellence.
