Incredible vegan options across all of the Zadun resort

I recently stayed at Zadun and was absolutely amazed when it came to vegan food options. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, I was impressed by the variety and quality of vegan food available. Every restaurant (aside from the fish market) has a separate vegan menu, including in-room dining. I've attached all menus to my review.

We had vegan meals at Humo, El Barrio, and in-room dining. The desserts were also vegan-friendly, with a range of cakes, cookies, and even ice cream. It was truly amazing to see a resort catering so well to vegan diners. I was also pleasantly surprised by the prices - while expensive, the vegan options were priced less expensive than the meat options. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I was so glad to see the resort taking vegan food options seriously.

Pros: Vegan menus have lots of options, Vegan food available at most resort restaurants, Food labeled well

Cons: Need to request vegan menu separately, Staff didn't remember/read notes that we are vegan

A must-try in San Jose del Cabo

DISCLAIMER: restaurants that are not fully vegan/vegetarian cannot receive 5 stars pursuant to HappyCow guidelines. The highest available rating is 4 stars, but this experience was absolutely 5-star worthy!

From the very moment we arrived at Humo, it was a great experience. The hostesses were incredibly friendly and confirmed we were vegan, which has been noted on our reservation (not because we brought it up, but because they asked for any dietary restrictions/allergies prior to arrival). At our table we were greeted by a sommelier and Moises, who took care of us the whole evening. Again our dietary restrictions were confirmed and then Moises invited us to take a look at the vegan menu. Then he shared with us his favorite dishes (he had tried all of them), and the details of the various flavors in different dishes. He also shared the details of the restaurants flavor profile and chef's experience. The vegan menu is not just a few salads and some hummus, it is clear that there was a lot of thought and effort put into crafting the vegan menu.

The food began with bread and hummus with marinated peppers. The waiter who brought the bread to us noted (without us asking) that everything was vegan. Then we ordered saffron risotto and empanadas. Both of these were fantastic, but the saffron risotto was especially tasty. For our entrees, I ordered the eggplant and artichoke anticucho. I don't usually love eggplant, but it sounded delicious and I was not disappointed–it was so flavorful! My boyfriend had the stuffed bell pepper, and although he doesn't usually like bell peppers either, he was incredibly happy with his choice. We also ordered the roasted peaches for dessert, which were the perfect cap to the meal!

In terms of drinks, there is a wine pairing option that we did not choose. They also have a dedicated bar, Candil, that prepares all of the drinks– I had a delicious Manhattan!

In all, the food and drink were fantastic and definitely warrant 5 stars on their own. However, it was the service and experience that really exceeded our expectations. Moises was so attentive and genuinely interested in ensuring we had a great experience with the vegan menu. He even invited the manager and chef to come speak to us about our experience and ensure we were happy with the menu. It was clear that the vegan menu was not an afterthought, but an important part of the restaurant.
