Wij komen zeker terug!

All vegan hotel - Edit
Down where the river gently flows and sky is hidden through the mist, there is this lovely place where vegans can stay in Germany. No need to pack your breakfast essentials or be sure to locate the closest place to fuel yourself; from breakfast buffet to elaborate ice-cream menu, you'll find it all in this hotel. Not only do they have delicious vegan food, but they also have a pool and saunas. A plus is that they think about the environment, so the sauna and pool will only be heated when you inform the staff that you would like to use them.

The full vegan experience - Edit
So nice not having to worry about the food being vegan during the entire stay. Rooms are basic and could use some love, but that's only a small detail. Friendly staff

Astounding hotel - Edit
The owner and staff are clearly very dedicated and friendly, plus the bar and kitchen are delicious!
Read moreThe menu is simple, but the portions are good and the food is great and well seasoned. The scenery and rooms are beautiful. One of my best vacations and it's of course always a relief to be in a vegan place too.
It could hardly be more inviting or relaxing.

Astounded at all the good reviews - Edit
The worst meal I've ever had I think, and very expensive for what you get.
Read moreThis place does tasting menus and we were very excited to find a fully vegan place near where we wanted to stay. The menus are secret and having had the food, I know why - no one would choose it if they saw what was offered.
So I am going to tell you what we had and stay as objective as possible.
Starter: Mushroom salad. Mix of deep fried mushrooms, raw mushrooms and salad. Pleasant enough but nothing special
Soup: Orange and tomato consommé. This weirdly smelt like mulled wine (not helped that it was served in a glass with dried orange peel). I thought it was ok but I don't think the flavours really go together. My partner thought it tasted like a combination of heinz tomato soup and mulled wine. They couldn't eat it and found it thoroughly disgusting.
Main: This was a collection of ingredients rather than a cohesive meal.
- Risotto with no flavour (possibly made with pudding rice), definitely way overcooked.
- Sauces - a jus that tasted like an overly concentrated bad gravy and a hollandaise that had a thick skin on top so I didn't even try it.
- White asparagus. Nice
- Half baked avocado with some weird pink stuff shaped into the avo hole, which was described as vegan lamb. I can't stand baked avocado. I thought the pink stuff was edible but my partner's wasn't cooked as much so was more a pate texture whereas mine was chewy.
- Topped off by a falafel
Dessert: A thick pancake with mango and stewed rhubarb. We both ate all of this. It was tasty, certainly not refined in any way and mango and rhubarb don't go together, but it was good compared to everything else and we were still hungry by this point.
The staff were disinterested. The waitress who served us mostly didn't seem surprised when we didn't eat everything and the other woman who served us just grunted.
I know dishes may not always be to your taste, but I don't think this place justifies the price tag in the slightest. The cooking wasn't very good - the seasoning was off a lot of the time and things just didn't really go together.
We didn't complain because the staff seemed so disinterested that I don't think they would have done anything about it, and the chef is disillusioned about his skill, so wouldn't listen. We met him when he did his rounds and when we said we didn't find the food to our taste, he moved on to other topics of conversation.
All in all, don't waste your money.
Pros: The mosel valley is spectacular, Wine was very good and a very reasonable price
Cons: Food, Service, Venue

Uriges veganes Hotel - Edit
Einfache, altmodische und saubere Zimmer, drei Saunen plus Pool, sehr gutes Frühstücksbuffet (viel Auswahl, viel selbstgemachtes), sehr gute Pilzplatte (33€/Pers) oder einfaches Restaurant (Hauptgericht 15-20€), etwas überfordertes, aber irgendwie auch nettes Personal😉

Great vegan Hotel 🌱❤️ - Edit
We spent the weekend at Hotel Nicolay. We had booked the vegan weekend.
Read moreThe breakfast buffet and dinner were excellent. There was a large selection of vegan dishes at breakfast and a three-course menu in the evening.
The staff are very friendly and you feel well looked after.
The hotel is cozy and rustic, but with attention to detail. The wellness area is modern, but not very big.
We would come back anytime! ❤️

Good food, basic rooms - Edit
The best thing about this Hotel is to not have to worry about food at all, since everything is vegan. This especially makes breakfast a very carefree affair, though the buffet is a 4/5 at max.
Read moreFor dinner, we had the three course menu, which was better than expected on two out of three evenings, with the third one being a bit bland and boring.
Also, the service varied extremely - the waiter of two evenings was incredibly nice and good at their job, whereas the third evening's intercations with wait staff were outright unpleasant.
As for the rooms, others have already pointed out how outdated they feel. However, our room was clean and definitely good enough. Just the bed was very uncomfortable, unfortunately, and we did not sleep well. Plus, the walls can be rather thin - we heard our neighbors from time to time.
Still, we enjoyed our stay, mostly also because of the sauna / pool area, which we used every day. It is definitely the highlight of the hotel.
Pros: All vegan food, Great saunas
Cons: Slightly uncomfortable room, Partly unpleasant wait staff

All vegan hotel with wonderful food - Edit
Nice vegan hotel along the Mosel.
Read moreWe've been here 3 times already.
Good beds, clean bathroom.
Breakfast with a lot of choice: several types of vegan cheese and mock meat, plant drinks and yoghurts, muesli and corn flakes, nuts and seeds, bread spreads, jams, a lot of prepared food for breakfast, among which spring rolls, tomato-tofu, and so on (see pictures).
The owner knows how to cook vegan, and as a classic trained chef, he is very good in making traditional dishes vegan.
The hotel is from 1881, and a bit old inside, what some people may not like, but we found it charming. The rooms were clean.
Our room was at the front with balcony or loggia and had view on the Mosel river. Very nice.
What we like less is that checkout is only possible from 9am onwards. You cannot pay f.ex. the night before either, because they want the jeys together with the payment. This is different from most hotels. So here, especially when you leave on Friday when many guests leave, you need to stand in the cue on the morning of your departure and loose a lot of time, this is not customer friendly.

The hotel is located in the “nicer” area of the Mosel region. Went there three times: once to the main restaurant and twice as a hotel guest (3 course dinner breakfast buffet). Both dinner places are good but I prefer the a la carte menu. Definitely worth a visit!

Pros: Essen, Lage, Sauna
Cons: Unübersichtliche Öffnungszeiten der Restaurants, Unregelmäßige Bedienung in Restaurants

Awesome restaurant! - Edit
We didn't sleep at the hotel so we're only putting the bill here for the restaurant.
Read moreWe came to eat in the evening, the restaurant was very quiet, the staff very friendly! They even answered our questions about the village.
The food was excellent! (We had a "fishburger" with some fries and dips) Everything is 100% vegan so it was a real pleasure to choose from the menu without having to ask what I could eat or not!

Great breakfast, very basic accomodation - Edit
Were here for 3 nights.
Read moreBreakfast buffet was lovely. Lots of things to choose from, cereals, fruits, jam, slices, pate, spread, ...
No tofu scramble or other hot dishes, or Danish pastry, which would make it complete!
Breakfast is in 2 shifts, and you have to notify the day before if you want the early shift or the later one. A bit of a pity, one of the pleasant things of being on holiday is just waking up when you want to, no alarm clock.
Apparently some rooms in the hotel have been recently renovated, but our room clearly wasn't. Judging by the bathroom and furniture, I think it stems from the 1970's? Which also means poor insulation, and you can hear traffic from the road as if the window is open.
The room was very basic, with some furniture wore down. Fridge dirty and not working (was mentioned and apologised for by the owner, but then still ...), cabinets not closing properly, hairdryer not working...
Toilet of our room was dirty upon arrival, wasnt cleaned the day after, saw housekeeping in hallway and asked to clean, which she did. Rooms aren't serviced (no fresh towels, cleaning bathroom, ...) unless one explicitly asks.
The owner is very charming and is happy to show you around and talk about the history of the hotel. Communication with staff (reception, restaurant) not always as smooth, (our German is unfortunately not very good), and that visibly seemed to lead to some frustration ...
The wellness and pool (inside) area is very nice and newer.
So all in all: breakfast ok, wellness area Ok, but very poor accomodation/room. We don't mind some lesser comfort, but then that should also be reflected in a lower price, which isn't the case at 200€ (room incl breakfast /night).
Edit to add:
We had dinner twice at the Sonnenurh (restaurant room in hotel). See review on that listing.
We also wanted to try dinner at Die Weinstube on another night (just the room next to this one, but more restaurant feel with table cloths etc), but that was fully booked every night with hotel guests who have half board. You can also have the 3course menu of the Weinstube in the Sonnenuhr room, but we declined.
