Vegan dishes lack care and thought - Edit
This is one of the best hotels in Riva del Garda with magnificent views of the mountains and modern rooms; HOWEVER, the vegan options in their restaurant are very limited, poorly made and lack taste.
Read moreTheir non-vegan meals are generous in size and quality, but their vegan burger was more like a bad joke (it was deconstructed, in spite of this not being mentioned on the menu, and included a hard dinner roll, broccoli, curried rice, soggy spinach, etc).
I only ate it because I was very hungry and had already waited a long time for my meal.
My wife returned her pasta, due to the lack of taste - it was like eating bland and watery pasta parcels with no taste. Needless to say, we only ate dinner there once.
Sadly, the pre-paid breakfasts (of which we had four) were also a recurring disappointment.
Again, there were very generous non-vegan options (eg. lots of pastries, cakes, freshly cooked pancakes, hot foods, etc), but very little for vegans in spite of me requesting vegan options.
For example, my hot breakfast options were a pile of kidney beans and some sliced mushrooms (that’s it)!
So, that’s what I had each morning, in order to get my quota of plant-based protein.
I also loaded up on cereal and nuts with soy milk. Unfortunately, there were no pastries or cakes that were vegan; however, there were several cakes for gluten-free guests.
While they did have a small salad bar, the breakfast selection was quite underwhelming.
In summary, we left feeling quite disappointed and have yet again subsidised the meals of the other non-vegan guests.
Given that this area caters to tourists from Germany, Austria and the UK, we tried pointing out that these three countries have some of the fastest growing vegan sectors in the world, but they didn’t seem to understand or care about this.
Could be improved so easily!
For the other three nights of our stay, we ate at the “Du Lac et Du Parc” restaurant, which is only several hundreds metres away from Hotel Bellariva. This restaurant only served several vegan dishes (pizza, pasta, poke bowl, burger), but the first three were delicious and were made with obvious care and thought (we didn’t try the burger). They also had a couple of vegan desserts. Can highly recommend!
Pros: They have some vegan options.
Cons: Vegan options were very limited , Vegan options were poorly made., Vegan options didn’t taste very nice.
