CLOSED: Hoppetosse

Hoppetosse is quite a small restaurant with a small but always nice menu. They always offer some burgers but also some other seasonal dishes. In summer you can sit outside just on the other side of the (pedestrian only) street. Because it is a side alley of one of the main axes through Mainz, it is both central and comaparably quiet.

Their food is always great, as are their homemade lemonades, cheeses and desserts.

Only their opening times are a bit frustrating for people like me who don't work in Mainz city - they basically open at lunchtime and close just before I like to have dinner.

This is a very small all-vegan place. They have very limited seating space, and when you can’t sit outside (due to the weather) I’d rather recommend to take-away the food.

The menu changes every week and usually consists of burgers, hotpot-dishes, sometimes baked potatoes, noodle-dishes… I especially like their “Tikka-Teller”, made of lentils, sweet-potatoes and spinach!

Sometimes they also sell handmade cashew-cheese which tastes incredibly good on german brownbread.

What I don't like: They are only open from noon till 6PM!!!

Alternative food in a unique setting. Very tiny location with not a lot of seating space - but we all know dynamite comes in small packages. My friend, that was having a detox week, couldn't find anything to go with her diet on the current menu - so on request she was presented with a special dish just for her. I was just as lucky with my dish and I must say that we got great value for money and can highly recommend this little package of dynamite ;-)

Full vegan place with a lot of warm dishes. Just one table and a few stools but a cosy atmosphere. Staff make their own vegan cheese.
