Slice of Heaven

Always some good scran and kind service. Make all their own food and it's always delicious.
I'm a bit fan of the soups when I drop in.
The bread loafs and focaccia they make are also to die for.
My partner loves the pies - enjoyed a mince and gravy pie.
Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the area!
They do additional services like North East Organic Growers too, and are pet friendly. ❣️.

Pros: Homemade food, Kind service, Pet friendly

The best pies!

Honeymans is a lovely bakery.

The owners are very passionate about vegan food, and this is reflected in their business.

So much thought and love goes into everything. The menu is varied between days (and posted on Facebook) so each visit is different.

Though, while all options are delicious, I can never resist the pies - these are a must try!

There is also a large selection of sweet treats, often including cakes, cheese cakes, scones clotted cream, custard slices, pastries etc.

It is truly one of the best vegan spots!!

Pros: The pies!!, Desserts, The focaccia!

Cons: Everything is perfect:)

Excellent food. Great people

Have been going for a while now, as I used to visit when working in the area,

Now I'll make trips especially. Definitely worth it. The pies are to die for and you will always have a friendly chat with Malcom.

Fantastic home made specialty & sourdough breads, pies, rolls, soups etc.

Pros: Food, Environment, Service

Lovely bakery, well worth a detour

On a recent trip to Durham this was the only green marker in a sea of red on the Happy cow app so we took a detour.

They were in the middle of a refurb, so had limited range, but what they had was delicious. We ordered cauliflower soup, two types of focaccia and a mince & onion pie (genuinely one of the nicest pies I've had in years).

Well worth a visit if you are travelling to Durham from the south, only a few mins off the A1(M)

Another amazing visit to Honeymans

A spectacular high tea for valentine's ❤️
Honeymans has many themed nights too. They will be extending soon so will be much more seating as currently that is limited.

Amazing place and owner

The owner is so friendly and obviously so passionate about what he does. I had a coffee and cake to sit in which was delicious (and made with his homemade jam!) and brought some sausage rolls and mince pies home. There’s so much choice - I’ll definitely be back to try some pizza and a roast!

Bread and cake heaven

Absolutely loved this little bakery/cafe where I could have stayed for hours and eaten everything!! The owner is an amazing baker as well as a lovely and interesting person. For the first time in 5 years (since going vegan) we had proper scones with jam and cream. Also the best garlic bread I’ve ever had!! We had only planned for cake but decided to sample a whole range of goodies and even brought a bag back to our hotel. We live 4 hours down the A1 but I’m genuinely tempted to make a specific trip to one of the evening meals!! 10/10

absolute gem

what can I say that the other reviews haven't already said? we made a detour off the m1 to grab some brunch and cakes to go and I will be doing so every time I'm up this way again! owner was gorgeous, it was also his birthday (happy birthday!). he has every kind of bread you could want which he will whip into any form you could imagine. we had the fresh minestrone soup and olive focaccia (which has ruined me for all other focaccia, truly).
loads of on street parking around too.

Pros: friendly, amazing service, can make anything

From Bowburn with love....

I called in for a pot of tea and a pie and left feeling quite elated. A range of freshly baked loaves along with pies, pasties, sausage rolls, cakes and so on exceeded my expectations by a country mile. Also, the small shop arrangement with sort of two plus two indoor tables and outdoor picnic tables is about to be extended by a new conservatory.

Essential stop

We found Honeymans on happy cow and planned a stop on the way to the in-laws. What a lovely find. Very friendly chap as everyone says. Very busy with lots of locals calling in for bakery items. I had a perfectly strong Americano with oat and the Tofu with toast. We bought several items for takeaway including some pies and pastries. The sourdough looked amazing. Just 3 tables inside and one picnic table outside.
Lovely atmosphere like visiting a friend's house as you are pretty much in their lounge.
It's just a few mins off the A1 same junction as Durham services - I know where I would rather be. We parked at the coop over the road but it does say parking limited to half hour. There is plenty of on street parking close.
Oh someone popped in and asked for pancakes which I think were not on that days menu but he cooked them anyway.

Pros: Friendly chap - Malcolm , The food! , Excellent coffee

Lovely little place

What a lovely place to grab a bite to eat! So many amazing options, all at fantastic prices!

We tried the pasty of the day and the apple turnovers, along with some hot drinks. The food was so tasty we left with an extra pasty to go!

Definitely going to be back again. 😊

Pros: Delicious food, Lots of choices, Amazing and fair pricing

One of my favourite ever cheesecakes!!

I found this gem on Happycow and I am so glad I convinced my family to go and visit while on a family holiday nearby, The owner was super friendly and chatty. It turns out he comes from an area close to us so we had a lovely old chat.
The food was so cheap, and tasted so good. I had a vegan bridie (a local delicacy from my hometown; a Scottish pasty), a raspberry cheesecake and a fruit scone to takeaway for later. The cheesecake was so creamy and soft and tasted delicious! The scone was delightful. The bridie was fab too.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anybody nearby.

Pros: Lovely owner, Tasty food, cheap!

Honeymans

Fantastic little bakery with the friendliest owner. Super welcoming and chatty, it felt like I was a visiting a friend. As well as bakery items, they do have hot meals too (I believe only on certain days). I arrived quite late so some items had sold out, but I took away some delicious bagels and a slice of cake. Look forward to going back and trying the hot meals, it was clear from my conversation with the owner how much care and effort they put into making them. Free on street parking around the corner.

UNBLOODY REAL HIDDEN GEM

Right, so… I’m up here in Durham seeing family and looking on HappyCow for a vegan friendly place in town for lunch… and lo & behold, this little baby pops up that happens to be on my actual route from Ferryhill to Durham!

Popped in to buy two cakes, and truly my eyeballs popped out of my head when I walked in!! The kindest man behind the counter, the cutest little (what I think) is literally a house that’s been converted into a little cafe, and THE most beautiful cheesecake I chose, plus a choc and orange cake!! Will be coming here every time I’m up now! 😱😻

Pros: Friendly owner , Unreal fully vegan cakes

Delicious as usual.

We are so lucky to have this place on our doorstep. Our favourite lunch is a focaccia sandwich with a simple tomato filling. It’s divine. We have had cakes, pastries, bagels and bread at various times and have never been disappointed.

Pros: Quality of food, Range of breads etc , Friendliness of owner

My favourite bakery

Honeymans is my local bakery and I'm so grateful it's fully vegan! That do a range of breads, pastries and cakes - and have even started serving hot food such as curry and soup. My favourite thing to buy is the foccacia.

Pros: Veagn, A range of food options , Tasty

Unexpected find

Delightful vegan cafe, friendly staff and excellent baked goods. Had pizza followed by a delicious caramelised semolina Indian dessert called halwa which was superb. Took home the flapjack and a vanilla cream slice. The slice was heavenly. The menu is always changing, evening events offered, wish I lived nearer. Worth a visit.

Pros: Tasty food, Friendly people , Reasonable price

Cons: Small inside but expanding soon

Delicious pasties, excellent value

It was quite unexpected to find an entirely vegan cafe in Bowburn! It was very small and seemingly ran by just one person but was quite charming. They have plans to expand the premises out in the future.

The food was absolutely divine. There were various pasties to choose from - steak pie, sausage roll and a Scottish pasty that I forgot the name of, and I also had a pastrami sandwich. Tasted so good that non vegans probably wouldn't know the difference!

Also had the best scone with jam and cream that I've had as a vegan - absolutely delicious!

They also sold homemade bread and entire cakes.

Coming from southern England, I was gobsmacked by how cheap everything was. Is this just how the North is?? We got pasties and puddings and drinks for two people plus bread and a couple of extra pastries to take home and it came to just £30!

Pros: Amazing food , Very friendly , Incredible value

Cons: A little bit cramped to sit, better when bigger

Amazing place so lucky to have this in Durham

Never disappoints! Been a few times for takeaway and once before for proper sit down meal, which I love to do! This time was also great! Really enjoyed a chick*n salad sandwich on a freshly baked baguette and the new to Saturday's waffle bowl! Wow - a little bowl made of waffle with kiwi, banana, Chantilly cream and candied nuts. We struggled to decide what to have as so much yummy variety so decided on takeaway (tex mex meat feast pizza and chickn and sweetcorn pie which we just had for tea, also delicious) and sourdough loaf for later too. Amazing food that feeds the soul! Lovely fairtrade drinks too enjoyed my raspberry karma drinks pop and will try a charitea next time. Also had a Dilston Psychic tea that was really nice. The owners passion about the food and ingredients makes for a very happy experience.

Pros: Fantastic variety of interesting food, Everything is delicious , Homely, friendly, happy atmosphere

Cons: None at all

Confused 😐

It says its plant- based and vegan in the window, but it also has a sign outside saying they sell dairy ice cream 🍨. I found the set up odd - it’s a house made into a cafe. They didn’t really have anything left when we arrived. If you try it go early on a Saturday.

Updated from previous review on 2024-06-29

Pros: Friendly service

Cons: Not certain this is vegan - it’s confusing , Small so not many tables , Pricey

hack_man

They got rid of the dairy ice cream quite a while back but haven’t removed the sign yet. I should mention it next time perhaps. Everything is totally vegan here, nowt to worry about 😀. I even think he’s ditched the honey so the listing was upped to vegan from veggie on Happy Cow. He did sell home-made honey but no longer I’m pretty sure. Yes indeed very frustrating as you have to get there early before all the good stuff sells out. I never learn 😂

Bit of a silly move not removing the big dairy ice cream sign 😅. I couldn’t really get much of a word in to ask him anything tbh- he is a talker ha. I could see he was selling dandelion honey, but he also had those bee houses to make honey in his garden too - yep, I was confused 😐

Chatty

Owner very chatty indeed. Sandwich made fresh in front of us. Very funny to see dairy milk if people pay 50p extra! Nice beetroot latte but next time would try a different drink. Scone ok but again might try a sandwich or pizza slice next time. Or pies to takeaway and share with others!!

PS he says sometimes he is open after 4pm if he is baking, if you are calling by on the road might be worth a try anyway

Huge selection of freshly baked goods

Finally got to try freshly baked goods from Honeymans of Bowburn.

Couldn’t resist and bought a selection of different pizzas, bread. Shared them with my non vegan friends and they fully enjoyed them too!

Bread were so fresh most of them were still warm!

Only a few items not vegan, and they were pointed out to me.

Definitely worth the drive down ! 😍

Pros: Lots to choose from , Freshly baked
