A basic branch

This branch is alot smaller than city branches such as Newcastle, so selection is a little limited but there's enough vegan essentials to satisfy one's needs.

As with all outlets there are quite often manager specials and a penny sales in store where you can get some good deals. This is only on selected items though. On my visit I picked up a discounted Ethiopia coffee.

A recent visit revealed they now have chilled vegan food in store including smoked tofu and tempeh.

Pros: Vegan options , Special offers, NEW chilled section available

Cons: Limited options, Some items expensive

Just a Standard Store

Nothing out of the ordinary here. This is the UK's major health food player and it has a presence in all cities, towns, & shopping centres including the pleasant seaside resort of Whitley Bay. There is a good fridge section at the back with the odd marked down item. I picked up a four-pack of Alpro soya yoghurt desserts for 50p There's also a bargain bin by the cash desk. Other than that, it's pretty standard. Don't go out of your way to visit unless you happen to be passing by or actually live here.

Pros: good fridge / freezer section , bargain items

Holland and Barrett, Whitley Bay

H&B are the nationwide heavy weight of the UK heralth food shop business. I personally would prefer to support an independent organisation and that feeling is embellished by H&B not being 100% vego (they sell fish oils and whey protein). However in Whitley Bay at present it appears to be H&B or nothing. They are open on Sundays which can be useful.

They are located on the main drag.

Pros: Vegan vego friendly, Open Sundays

Cons: Not 100%
