Serves meat, vegan options available. The standard menu includes dishes like pasta and bruschetta that can be veganized. Contact the restaurant in advance and the chef will customize a vegan menu including dishes such as cheese-free lasagna, dairy & egg-free potato croquettes, and accidentally vegan Sicilian classics like eggplant caponata, arancini rice balls, and chickpea panelle. NOTE: Napa Valley Vegan and Route 66 are collaborating to offer a vegan food tour in Mussomeli, Sicily. The tour will launch in late summer 2021 and tickets will be available on www.napavalleyvegan.com. Open Mon 19:00-01:00, Wed-Sun 19:00-01:00. Closed Tues.

Get Your Vegan Kicks at Route 66! - Edit
The small village of Mussomeli is full of culinary surprises. One of my favorites is Chef Daniela, the owner of Historic Route 66. While her standard menu is known for its burgers, she has fully embraced the vegan challenge. There is currently nothing labeled vegan on her menu but don't let that stop you from enjoying some of the best food in central Sicily.
Read moreI contact Chef through the restaurant's facebook page to set my reservation. We discuss special requests/allergens and then she creates a three course vegan meal that includes a starter, main, and dessert for about 15-20€. The food is always creative and delicious. She has also created plant-based versions of some of Sicily's most popular dishes. Additionally, she offers a sandwich and drink special on the regular menu for about 7€ that I plan to ask her to veganize on my next visit.
While the coastal cities in Sicily have historically been the most vegan-friendly, I am finding that it is becoming much easier to find delightful plant-based options throughout the middle of the island. If you are traveling down SS 189, be sure to take time out to visit Route 66!

Pros: creative Chef/tempting meals, patio dining during the warm months, vegan dessert!
Cons: no standard vegan menu items (not yet anyway!)
