Great- but all comfort food with fake meats. - Edit
Great food and well done. Mostly comfort food with fake meat proteins - wonderful. But if you’re looking for more healthier options maybe not the place for you.

Happy City Veg is a chain of vegan food.
Read morePrices are on the upper side of what is tolerable (I paid 25 bucks for a burger with fries, nuggets, and a drink) and the quality is consistent across locations.
As much as I’m looking forward to a vegan world, and I think Happy City Veg is doing that, I just can’t give 5 stars to a chain. It just goes against my principles.
Pros: High quality, fresh ingredients
Cons: It’s a chain

I’ve been going to HipCity for over seven years, starting in Rittenhouse. Then I moved to DC and was a regular in Chinatown. When I returned to Philly I started going to Broad st. Every place, every time I’ve had delicious food and excellent service. It’s also my go-to place for delivery.

Belly-busting Comfort Food - Edit
I had the Crispy Hip City Ranch Chick'n sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. It was a very hearty meal. This place is about ten minutes, by foot, from the Convention Center downtown and was well worth the walk to escape the shoulder-to-shoulder mayhem of the Reading Market. A wee bit pricey, but once you taste the food, you don't care how much it cost; it's so delicious and worth every cent. $21 for a huge sandwich, fries, a soft drink and a cookie. P.S. the sandwich is unwieldy and very messy. Get a lot of napkins!

Solid fast food - Edit
We had the cheese steak roll and a chick'n burger. Both were excellent. The fillings were generous and sauces tasty. The textures of the mock meat were pretty close to the real thing. Even the meat eaters with us were impressed.

I’m in Philly for a conference. HipCityVeg is 100% plant-based and most things can be made gluten free.

Philly cheesesteak!!!! - Edit
I have had many philly cheese steak sandwiches after going vegan. Most of them tasted great, but until today, they were still always a disappointment because this was my favorite thing to eat before going vegan, and the vegan versions just didn’t have the same texture or taste I was looking for. All of that changed today. This made my day, week, month, summer! Even my mom said it was the best sandwich she has had since going vegan. I would eat this sandwich every day if this restaurant was near my home. The restaurant itself is very small, with 3 small stools at a counter for those who wish to dine in. There were also some cafe tables in the lobby of the building that it is in that are available for diners, but it is still just a building lobby, and doesn’t feel much like a restaurant if you do that. Oh well, didn’t really care, because it was just me and mom having the best sandwich ever!

Decent Food Fast - Edit
Arrived in Philadelphia late on a Sunday, but was able to snag dinner from HipCity via Caviar. I requested that a wrap be made gluten-free (i.e. as a salad) and they called to confirm that was what I wanted, which was decent of them.
Read moreThe food was tasty, but nothing blew us out of the water. A burger or wrap alone is not enough for someone hungry, so make sure you get a side.

I have tried about 4 different burgers from here the Ziggy Burger 10/10, the Bistro Bella 8/10 , Buffalo Bella 9/10, and the disco chik’n 10/10... oh yeah and the fries are literally so good. Don’t forget to ask for the drinks without ice in them... all of the desserts tend to be a little too sweet 7/10 rating for all desserts.

Gluten free must be a salad, but they're yummy! - Edit
I was a little disappointed when I found out that in order to make my meal gluten free, I had to have a salad. I have salads at home because when I make them for myself, they tend to be more filling, and when I have a salad at a restaurant, they tend to be mostly lettuce and not enough other veggies and protein. It was no different here. I wanted a sandwich that they offer. It says on the menu that there's a way to get it gluten free, so I was really hoping for gf bread, which I only allow myself when I eat out. It turns out that when they say you can get something gf, they mean that they will make it as a salad. So, I was still hungry when I finished my meal, BUT I really enjoyed it very much. It was tasty!
Read moreOne thing that I think they can improve with their salads: Offer to toss it before putting it into the very small container. It's not really possible to toss the dressing in the tiny container without either spilling a bit or just not really getting the dressing spread out, and it would be even more delicious if that amazing dressing were coating the delicious salad ingredients.
But I still would've rather had a gf bread option. I think many vegans are likely also gluten free.
Pros: yummy food!, friendly staff, great prices
Cons: small portions, no gluten free bread

Yum for breakfast! - Edit
This is my second visit to Philadelphia and return visits to Hip City Veg!
Read moreSo nice and worth the walk to have a vegan breakfast. My favorite thing so far is the lox and loaded breakfast bagel—everything bagel with cream “cheese”, capers, carrot “lox”, cucumber and tomato. It was so fresh and delicious, while being filling and light. Two thumbs up. Note, there are two locations within a few blocks of each other, but only the Broad St. Location is open for breakfast.
