vegetarian buffet in the city center

If you want to eat good vegetarian/vegan food on Gamla Stan and not get bancrupted, that's a good option. You pay for a buffet and eat as much as you want. I liked hummus and raw cabbage salad most of all. If you wish to have coffee/tea/sweets, you pay extra. The staff was friendly and happy to assist :)

Vegan retreat

This was a perfect stop off after a morning of sightseeing in the Old Town. Considering the location the prices here are very inexpensive where you can get lunchtime deal for just 120SEK. Inside there is unlimited water and a number of vegan options to choose from such as soup, stew, curries, koftas, potatoes and salad bar, although I did have to ask which dishes were vegan. As with most buffets you can fill up your plate as much as you want but expect some buffet traffic whilst you wait to get your food. Although not as good as Hermans, the food here is hearty and tasty and we left feeling full and satisfied.

Pros: Vegan options, Inexpensive, Outside seating

Cons: Buffet traffic, Not 100% vegan, Vegan food could be labelled

Good alternative in "Gamla stan"

A fair vegan alternative if you are in Gamla stan (Old city). A traditional vegetarian restaurant that serves the dishes in a warm and a cold buffet. You don't need to leave hungry.

Pros: Nice Location, Outdoor seating, You don't leave hungry

Cons: Can be crowded

Great place but not entirely vegan

This place was nice, well located in Gamla Stan. You can find a buffet, however nothing indicates which plate is vegan or only vegetarian.

Vegetarian Gem in Gamla Stan

Hermitage is an excellent vegetarian dining choice after spending a day or afternoon exploring the Old Town, the most beautiful part of Stockholm. We came after touring the Royal Palace. There is indoor and outdoor seating and we chose outdoor seating due to the warmth offered by the provided colorful blankets and interesting street scene. It is buffet style so you pay for your plate and can fill it as many times as you desire. Though there are limited options they are all excellent. Highly recommend the spinach cannelloni, vegan ratatouille and selection of natural sodas. Staff is very friendly. Highly recommend.

Pros: Location , Outdoor Seating with Blankets, Buffet Style

Cons: Small Restaurant, 2. Prices

Good food in Gamla stan

Tasty food all you can eat. Baked potatoes, lasagna, spinach soup etc + salads. The place was small but cosy. You could have water spiced with lemon or fresh herbs with no extra charge.

Recommended!

Pros: Good food, Location, Cosy

Good for a break from sightseeing

The food is not super creative or super tasty, but if you get hungry while strolling through the streets of Gamla Stan, this is a good spot to sit down and to have a break. I prefer freshly prepared food over buffet, but the options are fine and the food is good. The vegan cakes on the other hand are only suitable for people who like their dessert really sweet, so I would not recommend those.

Pros: Great Location, Easy and Fast

Cons: Cakes are too sweet for my taste

Alright

All in all, the food was alright. The bread, potatoes and falafel were tasty, but the salads and especially the humus could have been better (it tasted like they just creamed chick peas without adding any spices or garlic).. since they don't have that many different choices on their buffet, I think they should improve the ones they already do have. Compared to other restaurants in Stockholm it was cheap though: you could eat as much as you want and tea and coffee is included for only 120 swedish crowns.

In love

This is the first restaurant I loved when I moved to Stockholm and it's still my favourite place to stop when I go shopping or take a round in the city.
The food is always fresh and tasty and, apart from the lasagna, everything is vegan.
You can order their sallads or choose the buffet, and with the last one you can eat how much You want.
Try also their cakes, they are fantastics!

Pros: Quiet place, in the hystorical part of Stockholm,

Cons: Few tables...but you can make a reservation!

Small but good

Cozy restaurant with a small but flavorful buffet. For 120SEK (lunch) you can take as much as you like from the hot (5options) and cold buffet, have water, tea or coffee and bread.

Quite Unfriendly

TL;DR: Chaotic and impolite.

Here's the (quite long) story:
Unfortunately, we were not able to eat here. When we arrived at the venue shortly before 6pm, the staff first gave us a half-hearted greeting but ignored us apart from that (simply standing quietly behind the counter). So, a bit unsure about what to do, we sat down at a table for two (there were only two other taken tables at that moment). It was only after we had taken our coats off that one of the two present staff members came up to us with a 'reserved' sign, signaling us with their hand that, the whole restaurant space that was still free, including our 2-person-table, would be reserved at 6pm, which was 5 minutes from then. (How badly organized!) The only other two places that we knew had vegan food in the vincinity were closing that very moment, so I asked them if they knew where else we could go. The second man then suggested we could still get a take away and eat it somewhere else or go outside - we didn't know where to take the food away to, so we opted to eat outside. So we proceeded to go outside, sat down, and, after waiting for a short while with no-one coming to serve, I went in to inquiry how we would get our food since we weren't told at that point if someone would come get our orders, if we had to order inside or if it was just buffet,... So I addressed one of the two men; the other one being busy eating himself. However, just when I started to talk to him, a group of people (apparently those who had reserved the places) entered and, instead of finishing (or even really start) to explain me how we should proceed, he just turned towards the group and started talking to them, letting me stand there. Even though we were quite hungry, that was the point when we gave up and left, having had enough of the sheer unfriendliness.

best value in stockholm?

130 kronor is cheap by stockholm standards for an all you can eat buffet.

Yet the food is really good. You have a soup, a vege stew with tofu, carrots cabbage, what i believe is gluten meat. And a bunch of other veggies, the stew is a bit oily but with all the veggies in there id say its still pretty healthy, if you want no oil you can always skip it, go the brown rice and salad, for salad they have a chickpea bean one, cous cous, shredded carrots, lettuce and cabbage. They also have fried pakoras. And what seems to be a hummus/dip but im not sure if its vegan. Everything i tried was good.

They also have some awesome look deserts but i didnt try them. Definitely worth visiting as you stroll around oldtown stockholm.

Pros: Quality food, price, variety

Delicious food & kind, friendly staff

At the moment they're only open until 8, not 9pm as listed here. I arrived at 8.05pm but they let me buy a plate at a discount price and let me stay for half an hour to eat. The food was so delicious, a nice mix of fresh salads and cooked dishes, I only wish I'd arrived an hour earlier so I could have eaten more! As I was leaving I had a really nice chat with one of the staff and I left feeling full and happy. I'll definitely come back here if I'm back in Stockholm.

Pros: Food was really good (and all vegan today). Staff

Cons: closed earlier than expected

Nice all-you-can-eat offer

We had the all-you-can-eat offer for 130 Kr and stuffed ourselves with the vegan food on offer. The staff told us which things were not vegan (lasagna and some stuff with yoghurt).

There was fresh salad, good hummus, fresh bread, tasty curry soup, very good vegetable stew, bean and chickpea salad and rice. All in all enough to have a few "courses" and leave the place with a full stomach.

Pros: tasty stew, decent value for the price

Cons: not everything is vegan, staff seemed a bit tired

Vegetarian buffet in Gamla Stan

As-much-as-you-like buffet. Tasty enough, reasonable price for central Stockholm. Not vegan: ask for ingredients. Tends to get crouded, so be prepared to eat in a noisy place full of people going around the table to find seat or food. Non alcoholic drinks only are served.

Pros: Central, unlimited quantity, good quality

Cons: not vegan, crowded

Almost completely vegan, why not 100%!?

A nice place to dine in, colorful food and resturant. Delicious food, but a little bit too expensive. This was the second time i visited the resturant, because of the tasty food. The staff could go a charm course... and are not service minded at all. They have one or two lacto-ovo meals in the buffet, that is completely unnecessarily - take the step and go 100% vegan... and smile.

Pros: Colorful buffet , Colorful and cosy place to dine in, Tasteful food

Cons: Almost vegan... 90%, The staff did not smile once and seemed tired. Not, They could marked the food that was lacto-ovo.

Decent buffet in central location!

If you're hungry and in the old town, Hermitage is ideal! It's an affordable all-you-can-eat buffet in a great central location. The food is nothing world class but affordable and pretty good. There was a nice salad selection, 2 of the 3 warm dishes were vegan, and fresh bread and soup. The whole tray of hummus was great to see!
Only downside is that we came in when it was almost full and it feels a bit cramped and crowded.

One further issue, perhaps not related to the restaurant, is the hare krishna people singing and dancing outside. No problem with that, but I had a big problem with one of them grabbing me by the shoulder trying to get me to join in, despite my polite refusals. We were originally going to Hermitage at lunchtime but decided to return later once they were gone.

Pros: Central location, Affordable prices

Cons: Can get crowded

A delicious stop

I stopped in for the dinner buffet and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is small, but the food was quite delicious. It had a very homemade quality to it, and it was healthy and hearty. While not cheap (120kr for lunch, 130kr for dinner) I found it to be worth the price. I'll definitely be going back!

Pros: Delicious, Fair price, Good location

Cons: Not many tables

Wonderful find in Stockholm over Christmas

Was in Stockholm over Christmas for the first time, as tour leader for a non veggie group. So, not much time to check out veg. restaurants. I stumbled upon Hermitage during our Christmas morning walk and was delighted to find out they'd be open both on Christmas evening and the next day. I'd read the reviews on Happy Cow, so knew about the 'pay before you help yourself to as much food as you wish' formula. The young man at the counter put me wise as to the only non-vegan dish that evening and was absolutely charming. It was particularly nice to have some vegan fruit tarts to choose from as a dessert (not included in the buffet price). The place is very cosy and I ended up having a lovely conversation about turning vegan with the couple of students sitting at the table next to me. Since the whole meal had been such a pleasant experience I went back the next evening rather than trying out another restaurant from the list found on Happy Cow. The food itself was wholesome and tasty and it was nice to have both salad and hot dishes to choose from, including some delicious falafels and roasted potatoes + a bortsch soup. If you want to round-off the meal with a speciality tea, I'd highly recommend the "White Rose" one which the delightful young man behind the counter had suggested. If like me, you love it so much you want to take some home, they sell boxes of it at the Organic bakery almost across the road from the Hermitage. It brings back lovely memories of my visit every time I drink a cup of it. If I were to go to Stockholm again, I'd certainly visit the Hermitage again. The price of 130 SKR for the buffet is very reasonable for Stockholm (or compared with other countries such as France for ex.) So all in all a most pleasant experience and I was particularly grateful that the lovely family from Albania who run the place bothered to open over the Christmas period incl. Christmas day. I wish them continuing success.

Pros: Lovely staff, Choice of vegan desserts, you pay before helping yourself

Cons: None whatsoever.

relaxed and plentiful

This vegetarian restaurant ... 'the only one in the old town' was perfect for a relaxed easy dinner/lunch.

The staff were slightly odd; they walked away initially then came back to us and served us. The younger man seemed a bit unsure of what he was doing. In short you'll need to serve yourself and not rely on them to direct you. There is water at the end of the counter near he loos for free with glasses beside it. There is coffee and hot water and mugs by the counter where you pay. Pay before you eat. I think it was 135 kroner for the buffet each. This seems fairly standard prices for Stockholm.

The food was lovely and plenty of it. The staff were able to say which buffet items were vegan (all but one the night I went) and I had plenty of options. There was hot currys and stews and rice or potatoes and los of yummy salad items.

We went back for 'Fika' one day ... Swedish coffee and cake. The guy serving us said all the cakes were vegan so I chose a nice toffee looking nutty tart and a green tea. He offered me cows milk (after the conversation) about being vegan which I only spotted by asking to see the box. This put doubt in my mind that he understood 'vegan' and I was eating a non vegan cake. I double checked and he assured me it's vegan but I'd lost my confidence in him. It did taste a little cows milky (bad aftertaste) but I can't be sure.

Overall they had good food but perhaps language and understanding was a slight barrier on the second visit.

I would go again but I would ask 'is there milk or eggs in this?' Incase it was the younger guy serving me.

A tourist trap

Hermitage is located right in Gamla stan, where I presume locals only ever go to show their visitors around. At the time of my visit, the price on their web site was obviously outdated. Even though I notified them of that fact, they still insisted on trying to charge me slightly more than announced. To which I in response decided to go for merely a petit bowl of lentil soup rather than what I initially intended. At the time, it seemed like a better deal. Except really, it wasn't. I left still hungry, and highly unsatisfied.

Nice, snug little place

Recently spent some time travelling in Stockholm and as usual checked happy cow before I left.
Hermitage is located just on the edge of the old town, the tourist area, and so is easy to get to on foot from where I had been wandering about all day.
On first impression, the place was packed! I wasn't sure we'd get a seat as the only empty table had a reserved sign on, but the counter staff said it was ok to sit there.
The place is small and was busy. There was much shuffling of chairs and tables when people wanted to stand up and squeeze past.
However, that didn't bother us at all.
The food was reasonably priced - 130 SEK for a buffet plate (cheap for Stockholm!), and there was a decent choice of salads - quinoa, bulgar wheat, humous, etc. as well as some hot choices - potatoes and lasagne (with cheese on).
Overall, a nice safe option to call in when visiting or travelling.

Pros: Reasonable price, Good location, Good choice

Cons: Bit crowded
