wide selection, good taste, good presentation, friendly staff - Edit

We love this place. Wide selection of raw entries, cooked items, pastries and deserts, excellent coffee.

Self serve works well, seating is spacious and comfortable.

Everytime we go to Mannheim we stop in Heller's and have never been disappointed.

Good food, only lunch and a little expensive - Edit

Changing dishes of the day. Main fokus is the big salad bar, but also good cakes, icecream and main dishes. Vegan options available.
The salad and the main dishes you pay by weight, so if you are hungry, it could be expensive.
In summer you can sit outside, but sometimes it's not easy to get a place.
Self service, a little impersonal, not open in the evenings.

Pros: Huge salad bar, Vegan cakes and icecream

Cons: Expensive

Great salads and cakes, mediocre warm dishes - Edit

You can either eat a full meal at the buffet or just take a coffee and a piece of cake at the café.

Most of the food (85% to date) is organic, which is a plus.

- The buffet:
A large choice of salads (potato salad with smoked tofu, lentil salad...), vegan options are plentiful and clearly marked, it's very easy to make yourself a filling and balanced meal. The food is simple, but good.
The warm dishes are often disappointing for vegans though. The daily changing main dish is almost always non-vegan, so vegans only get the side dishes, which can be a little bland.

- The café:
Vegan cake (and ice cream in the summer) options are also clearly marked. There are always at least 3-4 vegan options.
The fruity types of cakes are delicious! I cannot vouch for the "heavier" cakes which look too dry/heavy for my taste (typical of German baked goods) but there are always several options so you're guaranteed to find something appealing.
There are also several coffee options (with soy or almond milk).

Pros: mostly organic, lots of salads, CAKE!

Cons: disappointing warm options

My favorite place while living in Mannheim - Edit

Everything is marked whether it's vegetarian, vegan, gluten or lactose-free, etc. The selection is so varied and very very tasty. I spent a lot of time at Hellers! However sometimes it could get expensive and rather crowded.

Pros: Selection, Everything clearly marked, Delicious

Cons: Expensive (relatively), Can get crowded, Some dishes too plain

good place to eat - Edit

The Heller's is a vegetarian restaurant.
The food is really great and it is located close to the train station.
The only disadvantage is that it looks a lil bit like a canteen in the inside, eventhough the outdoor-seats a nice.

Great vegan cakes and tartes - Edit

For lunch or dinner the vegan options on the buffet are very good. Be careful with putting too much food on your plate though, since it is being paid by weight it might become a little expensive.
An absolutely must have for every vegan are the vegan cakes and tartes they are offering in the cafe section. These alone are worth coming back over and over, since the selection changes every day.

Pros: Nice atmosphere, Great cakes and tartes, Good vegan buffet options

Cons: Could have more hot vegan dishes, Buffet is being paid by weight

Best vegan choice in the area - Edit

Unfortunately, the area around Mannheim is really lacking good vegan food. Heller's is most probably the best choice there (except for a home cooked meal) but I would not agree that this is great vegan food by German standards.
Although the choice of salads (and the quality) is definitely fantastic, the cooked food is mediocre at best. I had a bean stew and veggie patty. The latter tasted like raw dough, only very superficially fried. The stew was OK but I would have preferred a bit more seasoning.

Pros: salad bar, many vegan options

Cons: price

take you food from the buffet - Edit

very good food and a wide range of food and meals. you can find every ingredient on a note in front of the meal. you take whatever you want from the buffet and the price depends on the weight of your choosen food. it's not very cheap. the atmosphere is like in a lunchroom, very loud.

Pros: wide range of food, indication of ingredient

Cons: atmosphere, price

Amazing buffet - Edit

This was one of those buffets where you wish you could eat a greater variety than is possible! Both hot and cold. I went at lunchtime (Dec. 2009) and it was packed, so it's glad to see continued success - no doubt pulling in meat-eaters along the way. There was real innovation in the salad offerings, and amazing variety of bean, leaf types etc. If you're in Mannheim, this is a place to seek out - not hard since it's on the main drag between the train station and city centre.

Pros: healthy, innovative, tasty

Good place - Edit

I went to Hellers once in 2006 and really liked it. The place was crammed with all sorts of different people, it was very bright and there were so many different things, esp. salads, to choose from. Unfortunately there weren't many vegan desert options but hey, maybe that has changed by now.
I paid around ten Euro for everything, so not to pricey either.

Pros: fresh food, atmosphere

Great find - Edit

We were not planning on a Mannheim stop on our Europe trip, so I did not check for a place to eat there. We drove by this place on our shopping stop in the city and it was very very good. Big buffet - many choices and very clean (especially for a buffet). Amazing how many "meat-eating" Germans go to this place.

Pros: Good Food, Good Value

Cons: Limited protein choices

Huge Buffet! Highly Recommended! - Edit

Mannheim the city of squares, not everybodies first choice. But if you happen to go there check this place out!!! It's jammed during lunch, since EVERYBODY is going there for their lunch break.
Changing choices everyday on a huge buffet...what else do a hungry heart need?? Merciless526

Pros: Fast, resonable, central
