Potential potential - Edit
Pricey, food and coffee are okay... not great. Signage states 'Vegan' but the menu is vegetarian with some Vegan items/options.
The same symbol (a green pie segment) is used to denote vegan and vegan option, leaving diners with no idea as to what is actually vegan.
Updated from previous review on 2015-11-10
Cons: using the word vegan., really daft menu coding.

favourite place in Melbourne - Edit
Love these guys. Best food, friendly staff, great prices. All day breaky too. Unlike a lot of other pretentious health cafes in Melbourne, Healthy planet is down to earth and isn't expensive! A casual but stylish and clean atmosphere. Gluten free also available. Tofu burger is my favourite
Pros: prices, food quality, friendly staff, location

Great food and service - Edit
I stumbled on this great place Monday and decided to treat myself to lunch. I had the Sri Lankan lentil curry, a soy chai latte with maple syrup but had the option of agave too. I then had the mixed berry "cheesecake" with another soy chai latte. I took a piece of the citrus and poppyseed cake for later. Delish, I highly recommend. The service by the lovely Bee (vegan herself) was fantastic. This place is vegetarian with so many vegan options.
Pros: service , vegan options, as above
Cons: none

Another branch on the Invita tree? - Edit
Appears to be run by the same guys as Invita at the Queen Vic Market. Has the same pre-prepared, ready to reheat meals displayed in glass cases.
My experience here is limited. Just popped in at breakfast time one morning for a little something to takeaway. Decided against a coffee when I noticed similarities to Invita because their coffee at the market has always disappointed me. Ordered the paleo muesli to takeaway - not because I'm a follower of the latest diet fad but because don't like dried fruit in my muesli. Menu says they charge extra for coconut yoghurt but they didn't add it to my bill and added some fresh strawberries and other fruit to the top so I was happy with that.
Was disappointed to see that the most interesting savoury items on the breakfast menu couldn't be veganised. Would drop in again in a pinch but am not overly inspired to revisit.

Confused - Edit
Although the exterior signage indicates Healthy Planet is a Vegan establishment, it seems they are using "Vegan"as a catchword only and on closer inspection much of the menu is vegetarian rather than Vegan.
Coffee is reasonable, but Lemon Poppyseed Cake purchased was a little dry for first thing in the morning. Will probably try again at some stage when in the area.
Pros: Some Vegan options, Potential
Cons: Labeling is confusing

Great location but food just OK... - Edit
It's always nice to see a new veg place around and this is in a great location on a main road and tram line. The space is a decent size with dark-stained wooden chairs and tables and a concrete floor. The food is mainly displayed in the cabinet and the prices are what you'd expect: around $15 for a main. The person serving us was friendly. For lunch I chose the Vegani pie with salad. The pie was OK but with perhaps a bit too much carrot. I've had pies with moister fillings and better pastry. The accompanying salad was just a bit dry. My companion had the falafel wrap, which he said was good. The meals were served on plates that had a textured pattern, which meant they were noisy to eat off (scraping). I'm glad this place is here but it hasn't excited me yet. However, I will come back and give it another try.
Pros: Good location, Decent-sized space
Cons: Plates :P

Spoilt for choice - Edit
So many options, what do you feel like today - focaccia, lasagne, soup, curry, pie...or just straight to dessert?!
Plenty of options, vegan and gluten free are clearly marked.
Amazing desserts - cashew nut cheesecakes, slices, biscuits
Plenty of drink options: juices, chai, teas and pretty good coffee.
Prices are reasonable, plenty of room to sit. Child and pram friendly and the staff are helpful too.
Pros: so many options, dessert, reasonably priced
