No smoothies or juices - Edit
Hey! Healthies lists that they have smoothies but they only have shakes. It’s hard for me to give a two-star review, but I’ll explain why I had to in this case.
Read moreThe good news is this is a small business in this rural community where there are zero other restaurants with vegan options. They have a separate vegan menu with about 20 shakes on it. The seating is mismatched down-home and feels very homey. They offer free WiFi so you could bring your laptop and work or write there for the afternoon.
The bad news is they say they have smoothies but they only have shakes. The difference is smoothies are made of fruits - sometimes vegetables, sometimes nut butters as an add on. These are shakes and not very good ones at that. The base is ¾ glass of ice (VERY watered down), then one small scoop of ice cream and one scoop of a stevia-sweetened HerbaLife powder. Most shakes also have an artificial syrup added as well like Carmel, banana or almond. NOT real banana or almonds, mind you: a banana syrup or an almond syrup. I ordered one of the few vegan shakes that said it had real fruit (strawberries) in and I believe about five strawberries were used because I def couldn’t taste any strawberries over the ice and stevia HerbaLife powder. With the base being about 75% ice, the texture of the shake wasn’t creamy, but more like a bland slushy.
Everything is served in plastic (including plastic straws - aren’t those outlawed nationally yet?) and there is no recycling.
Also, privacy-wise, HerbaLife requires you to input your personal info into their database before they will allow you to make a purchase, which I’m not cool with.
The focus seems to be weight loss rather than health here as they have photos all over the walls of women showing their stomachs, which imo has very little do do with actual health when fruits, vegetables and plastic-free small businesses have everything to do with health.
No smoothies and no juice here:(
