Quirky but Nice - Edit
This is a really unusual place...it's not like your usual polished retail store. It is very, very relaxed. There is nice eastern music in the background. The ceilings are 12 ft high, but the whole 19th century building is a treat. If you're a vegetarian, here is everything you ever wanted! Veggie drumsticks, frozen samosas, cold kombucha, Heritage seeds, about 100 bulk bins, veg jerkey, supplements. I especially liked the frozen ras malai, a great Indian treat. Not organic, but still great. Speaking of Indian, they even sell milk from protected cows (cows that are not slaughtered in old age). Great organic fruit and veg section. The shop seems to be something of a local hang out, and the owners seem to know everybody by first name. There were fresh baklava by the counter, made by a nearby Lebanese restaurant. There was a bulk spice section. It's a little heavy on the Asian side, but who cares? They also carry something called "Jain" Pizza. Apparently this does not have onion and garlic. The owners say about 50% of their customers are Krishna devotees, and it so happens they don't eat onions or garlic. For this reason, the shop also stocks garlic-free hummus. I tried it, and now I like it better than the garlic kind. The shop caters vegans as well, and I've noticed plenty of vegan items. They have about ten kinds of granola in bulk bins, from a company called Pure Bliss in Atlanta. It's become a favorite of mine. I shop here at least once a week, mainly on "10% off Thursday". The shop seems to be always changing; a wall removed here, a new room revealed here. They sell organic coffee by the cup, but they seem to be always be giving it away, a strange business practice to be sure. The shop is smaller than its competitors in nearby Gainesville, but shopping here saves me a 40 mile round trip at $4 a gallon, and it's a lot more fun, because, unlike other stores, here they know my name, and I kinda like that.
Pros: Atmosphere, Low Prices, Friendly
Cons: Not enough freezer space, They don't play country music, Not enough supplements
