Very accommodating and friendly

This is the second time I have been here. During my first visit, they accommodated my request even though I didn’t make any reservations the day before. They gave me warm foods and whipped me up a meal.
This time, I called beforehand and they made one of the best vegan meals ever 💚

Pros: Friendly staff , Great location and good tasting food , The price is right

Cons: Small parking lot

Family run, very authentic tofu restaurant

I visited this restaurant several times when I was living in Ashikaga. Despite being a Buddhist monk, the owner of the restaurant isn't vegan, but he was very interested in it when he found out I was, offering to veganise the meals for me whenever I showed up. There is no menu, it's more "omakase" style (chef recommends) based on what ingredients they have available. They can make vegan tempura, croquette, miso soup, onigiri, and will bring out several dishes over the course of the evening.

It's a small family-run diner with only the bar and a table in the corner. The brother and father make tofu in the back room every morning from 5:30am (they gave me a tour of the little workshop), the elderly mother cooks and the owner plus a worker serve the clients. The owner is well-versed in local sake and speaks a little English.

It's a popular place with locals so reservations are highly recommended. May close irregularly if the brothers have to work longer at the temple cafe some days.
