AMAZING!

For several years Has been wanting to go there but for some reason I just never got to it.
Finally I went for today with a visitor from out of town that’s not vegan we actually asked the waiter to recommend dishes so I don’t know what I ate but everything was amazing one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life I highly recommend not to mention the wonderful service and the beautiful restaurant.

Fancy a night out with fabulous food? This place is great!

I love Korean food, and rarely find vegan options locally, so when we read about HanGawi it instantly went on the must try list. Needless to say, it did not disappoint. The menu looked so good, and everything we tried was fantastic. Favourites include the kimchi stone bowl and the spicy rice cakes.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Great atmosphere , Tastes great

Cons: A little pricey

Atmosphere 10/10

Great place to eat. I was overwhelmed with all the options so we got the prefix winter dinner order. It included 2 starters, 2 appetizers, an entree, and dessert. Every dish was introduced to us when it came out. They all had a lot of flavor but I enjoyed the salad the most.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Great waitresses

Cons: Expensive

Always Great (except last time)

When I started coming here, I wasn't vegan and I didn't realize it was a vegan restaurant. I loved it then and I love it even more now!

Update: Last time we went, none of the dishes were very good. We were very disappointed. I hope it was a fluke but we won't be back any time soon.

Exceptional Korean food and sake!

The decor was wonderful and serene. The sake sampler is a must. I really enjoyed all of the mushroom dishes! The organic maitake and spinach was absolutely incredible. My only complaint is that the dishes labeled spicy weren’t that hot.

Exceptional Vegan Cuisine

I ate here solo, having come in from the rain without an umbrella outside and without a reservation inside. At 1:30pm on a Saturday, it was already full, so I had to wait for a no-show, after which I was accommodated. It is a popular place, and the hospitality is very good. They could easily have just said that they are full and sent me off, but they found a way to get me in. The ambiance is quiet, with dark, shadowy hues of orange, amber, ochre and harvest wheat. Very nice escape from the midtown vibe. I ordered the full prix-fixe, which is pricey, but worth it for the flavors, and even more so for the aesthetics, creativity and structure. It's easy to see why this place is popular - with their creative use of persimmon, kabocha, various mushrooms, tempura, and other ingredients. The service was attentive and individually paced to my style. The meal finished with a remarkable little shot of hot wheat tea, which was perfect.

Pros: Beautiful food, Quiet and serene, Attentiveness

Excellent stone bowl!

The decor at HanGawi was beautiful and the food lived up to expectations. I had the Mini emperor’s buffet and was happily stuffed by the end of the meal. Absolutely delicious.

Pros: Delicious , Good portions

Cons: Pricey, though not too bad for Manhattan

Refined Vegan Korean

A little bit more upmarket than nearby Franchia but with similarly excellent food. Another . good restaurant to take non-vegans.

Best vegan food I’ve had in NY

The food here is amazing, everything is vegan and there is a broad variation on the menu. The staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations. The crispy mushrooms and the combo pancakes were delicious.
I would recommend you to make a reservation in advance. We didn’t do it, but the place was quite full.

Pros: Delicious food, Good atmosphere , Menu with lots of choices

Cons: Only two kinds of beer

Amazing Vegan Korean

My husband and I came here for dinner before a show, and loved the special experience. Everything we had was fantastic, including dessert. The menu has a ton of choices, all vegan. Be prepared to take your shoes off when you enter the restaurant, and make reservations to ensure you get a spot.

Pros: Huge menu, Wonderful service

Hidden gem - best cheesecake of my life

Cozy environment with floor seating. Great customer service - servers are knowledgeable about authentic Korean cuisine and vegan diets and can fluently explain the menu and answer questions. The soy cheesecake was DELICIOUS! Who would have thought, right? Same texture, same appearance and almost identical taste!! So glad we ordered desert!

Pros: Great environment, Delicious food, Best cheesecake ever!

Cons: $20-$25 minimum per person for dinner

Average food for high prices

Food was ok. Not worth the price. Vegetarian dumplings were bland I’d say skip. Broccoli kale salad was good.

Disappointing Overall

After making a reservation a few weeks in advance, on the day of our reservation we all arrived on time and were seated in a new area at the front of the restaurant that was carved out from the previous entrance that they relocated. There was simultaneously a draft and a heater that blew hot air at our faces every few seconds, making for a very uncomfortable experience. We asked to be relocated and were told that this would not be possible and that this section of the restaurant was under construction and would be fixed- I'm not sure why they would seat people there until they fix what's wrong with it!

The food was incredibly average. In previous visits we had been extremely happy with food but this time our appetizers, which were decent, were ice cold after two minutes because of the draft that came through every time the front door was opened. The entrees were at the quality level I would expect of a $12 entree and not a $30+ entree. Worst of all, the dessert sampler featured a dry flavorless chocolate cake and a chocolate mousse that was topped with puffed rice, which ruined the balance of the dessert. The only thing our party was impressed with was the wine. Hangawi, I hope you get it together again!
