Must visit if you're in Gwangju

Most cities we've been to in Korea seem to have one particular vegan restaurant that stands out. Hae Tteuneun restaurant is that place in Gwangju.

We actually came here twice. We both had the Perilla seed soup the first time which came in a massive bowl from which we served ourselves, and we just had to have the dumplings on the side.
The second time, we branched out slightly and shared one portion of perilla seed soup and one portion of red bean porridge, again with the wonderful dumplings on the side.

The perilla seed soup was very comforting and contained some deliciously chewy flat noodles which looked and tasted like they'd been freshly prepared.

The ban chan was great, and everything was very reasonably priced. If you're in Gwangju, you must come here.

Pros: Great value, Simple but tasty food, Big portions

Cons: Sitting on the floor only

Great service and food!

This was such a cute small restaurant. Everything is vegan except for the kimchi. If it was possible, I'd rate this place five stars. The couple owning the restaurant were very welcoming and worked with my limited knowledge of Korean. I can't wait to come back to Gwangju to try out more of the menu.

My fave family owned Korean restaurant

Would give 5 stars if I could, too bad they have one non vegan side so I can’t! The food here is delicious and so cheap and it’s such a cozy little restaurant! The old couple who owns it are so kind and always compliment my Korean (a little simple Korean goes a long way!) I wish I still lived in Gwangju so I could eat here regularly, but I try to go back whenever I visit.

Pros: Cheap, Delicious, Cozy

Good food, cheap prices

Korean style food with korean style floor seating. Menu items with 채식 are atleast vegetarian, but I suspect other things are too. For example the 팥 죽 is traditionally vegan.

Pros: Simple menu of veggie meals., Nice staff and inexpensive prices., Not crowded when I went.

Cons: Menu only in korean

I went at an odd time but... I was served

So this restaurant is SDA affiliated and I was happy to go there since I am SDA, and it's my church's food. Also most SDA restaurants serve vegetarian or vegan food. I went there after a hike and I enjoyed some dumplings and a soy bean maybe mung bean soup. It was refreshing and delicious. I got there around three(around the time that most restaurant are on break) however I got all the things I wanted. Be wear though serving sized are big.

Pros: Serves singles, serves whenever

Cons: A little off the beaten path

Cozy and delicious

Very traditional style Korean restaurant except everything is vegetarian/ vegan. You will be given a little piece of paper to fill out what you want if you’re apparently foreign and may need to speak Korean to know what to get. The google translate app has a photo option so you can translate the menu. Recommend the vegetable noodle dish and the dumplings!

Pros: Incredible dumplings, Very affordable
