Serves meat, vegan options available. Egyptian family restaurant. Can make vegan dishes on request such as a Middle Eastern breakfast. Open Mon-Thu 9:00am-12:30am, Fri-Sun 9:00am-1:00am.
As is invariably the case in the Gulf, the best reasonably-priced food is to be found in restaurants where the clientele can eat dishes that have roots in their own culture.
So anyone looking for a culinary experience that is reliably above the mediocre is best off cherry picking from menus in places like this.
Today I had a large vegan breakfast, including a drink and unlimited freshly baked Egyptian bread for US$10 and just sent back the (apparently delicious, if you are into cheese) feta. The falafel/tamiya were some of the best I had ever eaten and the hot, puffed up, high-fibre flatbread and tahini sauce were the ideal accompaniments. Add in ful medames, Egyptian pickles, a generous side salad, plus nice waiters (who should have felt less embarrassed about their lack of English than I should about my lack of Arabic) and it all made for a quality experience. If you do go, be sure to check out their collection of Egyptiana, which harks back to the heyday of 20th Century Cairo.

Pros: Great Middle-Eastern set breakfast, Falafel/Tamiya, Koshari
Cons: Quite meaty in orientation
