AMAZING Food!

My wife and I stopped by here on the way to the railway museum and absolutely loved it! All the food was fantastic and the shop owner was genuinely one of the nicest people we've met. There's also a little shop attached to the restaurant (which I believe is owned by someone else?) that sells some vegan foods and products. My wife and I picked up some vegan soy sauce flavored noodles from the shop to take back to the hotel with us. Could be a good place to stock up if you're looking for that sort of thing.

Warm, friendly atmosphere and excellent food. Could not recommend this place more!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! 🌿
We are truly delighted that you and your wife enjoyed your visit and that we could be part of your trip to Kyoto.
We're glad you stopped by on your way to the Kyoto Railway Museum. Our café is also just a 3-minute walk from Toji Temple and about a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station, making it a convenient place to enjoy a relaxing meal while sightseeing.
It means a lot to hear that you enjoyed our 100% plant-based Japanese-style dishes and our warm atmosphere.
We're also happy that you visited DAICHU Shop next door. They offer a variety of vegan and vegetarian foods, Japanese seasonings, and convenient instant meals, which are popular with travelers looking for vegan products to enjoy during their stay or take home as souvenirs.
We truly appreciate your kind recommendation and hope to welcome you both again on your next visit to Kyoto.

We will definitely return

The staff at Hachidori Table is super friendly. We tried some harumakis, onigiris and the soy bowl, and we loved everything!!

They also have a small market in which you can buy vegan ingredients to cook.

The hummingbird who cared

This is a lovely vegan restaurant offering delicious Japanese food at reasonable prices. Its name, hachidori, is a play on words, combining the name of the street the restaurant is on with the Japanese word for "hummingbird". According to a south-American fable, during a forest fire, while all the other animals fled, a little hummingbird carried beakfuls of water, which she dropped on the fire. When the other animals laughed at her, she said, "I'm doing what I can". As the menu explains, the restaurant may be small, but the owners are doing what they can to make people and the world healthier. As a vegan, I am grateful for having heard this touching story. Despair doesn't help. We should all contribute what we can to make this world a better, gentler, and more beautiful place.

My husband and I had the home-made ginger ale and plum sodas, the katsudon, and the umeboshi and "tuna mayonnaise" onigiri. Everything was delicious. Hachidohi Table is a hidden gem, small, sweet, and understated like the hummingbird who inspired it.

There is a vegetarian store next to the restaurant. Some of the items in the store are not vegan, so make sure to check the labels. I didn't look at length, but you can buy T's Tantan vegan cup noodles to eat later, when you may not be within reach of a vegan restaurant. The restaurant itself is fully vegan.

As of this writing, dinner is by reservation only. Call or send an email by 3 PM the day before to reserve a table. You will be glad you did.

Really good

Was really good - closes at 2pm though, not 3pm as reported. The soy cutlet was delicious, as was the vegetable curry.

everything is lovely

the owner is so sweet and tries to get to know all of his customers because they're usually tourists and so he won't see them again. the food is much lighter than a lot of other restaurant food which is really nice, but the portion sizes are on the smaller side (good for some)

Absolutly delicious, also good for bento for train.

Very good, very close do Toji, if you are visting the highest pagoda of Japan this is your best bet. The food is very delicious, has a Japanese home food feeling. It is also one of the few vegan restaurants in Japan that is NOT obnoxiously overpriced. A bit out of the way of the main attractions (if you are a tourist) but very worth it.

Added bonus: If you are taking the shinkansen and want a bento for it, you can order a few sidedishes (depending on weekly changing menu). Kyoto station currently has no vegan bento-ish option, and this is the nearest (and best) one to it. (Just note the opening times)

**Fully vegan now, submitted a change to happycow.

Inexpensive and healthy

We stopped here before the Kyoto railway museum! Food was inexpensive (1,250 yen per meal) and healthy and fresh. It is always nice to get some veggies in while travelling. Mostly had locals in it - no other tourists as far as we could tell. The restaurant says vegetarian in happy cow but it appears to be fully vegan. They also have a vegan shop attached to it. Recommended !

Pros: Inexpensive , Healthy , Beautiful presentation

Tasty food

New restaurant in the south of Kyoto, not far away from the aquarium and Kyoto Station. The food is good, and the menu is interesting. I will try it again sometime in the future!

Pros: Menu has multiple options, Tasty, New and nice

Cons: Portions are not too big, The tuna mayo onigiri could have used more filling

A little pearl

After walking the busy streets and shops of Kyoto coming to Hachidori Table is just perfect. The food selection is pretty good. Some Korean, Chinese, Mexican and Japanese inspired dishes. The Jajangemyeon was perfectly spiced and came as a set with a side salad and apple juice. The Amazake parfait added a sweet ending to a healthy meal. There is no use of garlic, onion, chives or leek here to avoid the five pungent flavors. Absolutely loved this. The owner chef is so super cute. Simply perfect.

Delicious and fresh food

Nice little place with friendly staff.
I particularly liked the grilled and flavoured soy meat rice bowl for 1200 yen (the portion could be bigger though 😉). Highly recommended, as well as the spring rolls!

Delicious and great choices

We were so happy to eat our lunch at this great place. The staff is so welcoming and nice, they have English menu and WiFi is available. A little shop is inside the restaurant, they sell some vegan products. The menu changes each week (check it on their Instagram). We chose the soy meat cutlet rice bowl, the vege tuna onigiri and the hayashi rice. The meals are so delicious and vegan.

Pros: Good choices for vegan , Delicious food, Very nice staff
