Does NOT have a vegan menu

Per staff January 2024, they no longer have a vegan menu.
I went based on previous reviews, but wouldn't have gone if I had known this. The place is cute, staff was lovely, and my non vegan date had a great meal.

The only veganizeable items were 1 appetizer, mezza plate without cheese or sauce. Just hummus, baba, olive, pita bread. Very good flavors.

3 entrees, 1 of which is a special. The special is the same as 1 of the main entree items, with a different sauce. So it's more like 2 choices. Falafel plate minus dairy. Or the 2 stirfrys, both of which are tofu, asparagus and rice. I got the orange stirfry, it was OK, the tofu was definitely cooked by someone who knows how to cook tofu. Nice and crispy. But the sauce was underwhelming and maybe it's personal preference but asparagus is just about the oddest choice I can imagine to go with orange sauce. Very weird.

I'd recommend this place to non vegans, but only to vegans if they were in a pinch, without other options.

Delicious!

You have to ask for the vegan menu otherwise they do not automatically offer it. They took my order seriously and the importance of having no dairy on my plate. Great options! So happy to have a full menu of options in such a small town! Highly recommend!

Pros: Full vegan menu upon request, Adorable decor, Fun hole in the wall type feel

Cons: Wish they offered the vegan menu automatically

Good vegan options

They had some good vegan options. I got the falafel and it was so good! My service was great too, the people were really friendly and polite. Loved the atmosphere as well. As someone who is part Czechoslovakian, I admired the decor.

Excellent Diverse Menu

Nice to come across this spacious cafe in Lincoln. The separate vegan menu is a plus.

The vegan pot stickers with a thai red sauce are delicious. The quinoa fritters are also tasty and come with a mini salad. The mezzi platter can be made keto by substituting cucumber slices for pita slices. However, I would have liked more hummus on the plate. Had the Thai salad with tofu. The citrus dressing was phenomenal and the large tofu wedges were grilled to perfection!

The Brazilian rollups and flan for our non-vegan friends and partners were reportedly great. Lastly the margherita was simply one of THE best we have ever had. They stick to the basics, and it works.

Small step backward...

Just went last month and the vegan separate menu is gone...however the waitress was very knowledgeable and there are still two vegan options. It is just disappointing. I am a fan of being able to order something from the menu "as is", not having to "veganize" it. I had the Curried Kale Salad w/Tofu and my sister had the Falafel. Both were delicious.

Pros: Tofu prepared very well, Knowledgeable staff

Cons: Vegan menu gone

Willing to work with you

Server was quite knowledgeable on how to make certain dishes vegan and was willing to sub stuff out on the Mezza Appetizer Platter. I did double babaganoush instead of the yogurt sauce, removed the feta cheese and did cucumbers instead of olives (I hate olives). I was a bit frustrated that they charged me a dollar for the side of cucumbers when she said it was a fair swap, but it’s all good. She was wonderful and the pita was super warm and delicious. I would go back again.

Pros: Handful of vegan or veganizable options , Reasonably priced , Decent amount of outdoor covered seating

Excellent service, food ok

I ordered the cashew tofu stir-fry. It was tasty, but the tofu was dried out and it had no vegetables. The menu said it had asparagus, I found maybe 4 minuscule pieces.
We got takeout. The woman who took our order was friendly and our food was ready promptly.

Great falafel and enjoyable ambience

Wished this location was opened during our stay in the area. If it had been, we would have eaten there multiple times.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Bohemian atmosphere , Excellent service

Cons: Adding a few vegan desserts would be nice

Good food

Decent number of vegan options that looked good. Ordered the cashew tofu which was really food, they didn’t skimp on portion size for the tofu and rice at all. Ordered takeout bc of covid so cant speak for the service, but overall pleased! Would come back again

Cute Place, Vegan Menu

Funky gypsy vibes. Separate vegan menu with a fair variety of options. Absolutely loved the cashew tofu. Great guacamole and vegan dumplings! Good drinks as well.
This was in the winter so maybe this doesn’t happen all year but a party of 6 tried to come in for dinner mid afternoon as we were leaving and they apparently don’t serve for an hour between their lunch and dinner times which was odd.

Pros: Vegan menu, Good drinks

Cons: Serves meat , Weird hour break

Good food, slow service

Very cute interior, went at peak lunchtime on a Saturday. The food was good and they were able to accommodate my other food allergies with no problem. Food was slow and people that arrived after us received their food well before us. Ask for the separate vegan menu, plenty of options!

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Cons: Slow service

Terrible experience

Terrible experience here. Server had no clue what vegan meant despite the fact that they have a vegan menu. I was served a non vegan version of something on the vegan menu and luckily I noticed before I swallowed any of it but now I can’t get the taste of dairy out of my mouth. She called the owner over who handled the situation very poorly. She acted pissed at ME and stormed off. Very rude owner. She seemed super nice at first but she handled this situation very poorly. I tried explaining that I couldn’t trust anything else we ordered and if I had swallowed that dairy is have horrible stomach pains and if I had given any to my vegan 3 year old she would’ve been crying in pain for hours. The owner said she would still charge us and acted aggravated with me! She handled it so badly that we got up and left without paying which I had never done before in my life. I will never return there. We were there with a bunch of family too and had to leave them after we all waited an hour for our food to arrive on a Sunday evening.

Cons: They don’t know what vegan is, Owner is a phony lady who is not nice at all

We are supposed to go there tonight. What did you order that they brought a non-vegan version of? Nervous about this. I am considering going somewhere else now.

The cafe has a separate menu for vegans—be sure to ask for it. Food is good and servers are aware of allergies and parameters for vegan eating. Great for lunch probably great for dinner.

Vegan options at a good place

Great experience here, and very vegetarian and vegan friendly!

One of a couple of places open for dinner in the area so this place was a bit crowded. Sat at the bar and had a wonderful talk with Jen, the bartender/therapist. As soon as i mentioned the words "vegan" they brought over a separate menu with a bunch of other items not on the normal menu.

I'm starting to like the idea of separate menus less and less. What is someone wanted the vegetable dumplings that i ordered, but aren't on the regular menu? Food for thoughts (lol) but still nice how accommodating they were.

The veg dumplings were an app, and a perfect app portion. Fresh made, they hit the spot along with a nice glass of red wine. I'd suggest a shiraz or malbec to pair well with the chili sauce.

A great spot for groups large and small, for casual or date night. Thanks team!

Pros: Separate Menu for Vegan/Gluten Free

Cons: Crowded in the evening, plan accordingly

Delicious Food

Used Happy Cow to find this place. We took the food home so I cannot attest to the inside or the service. I got the cashew green bean dish served over rice with tofu. It was well priced at $7.99 for the lunch and my partner gotthe falafel and enjoyed it. Would definitely order again. Good prices and one of the only places with an actual vegan menu. It has a couple salads and 4 dishes.

Great vegan choices and extremely accommodating

I ate lunch at the Gypsy Cafe today with 14 friends. It's always hard to accommodate a large group and Gypsy Cafe did it spectacularly well. There were several (many) options for the vegan or dairy-free in our group. The food was delicious. I had the Cashew Long Bean stir fry with tofu and it was so flavorful. I highly recommend. Several people had the falafel plate which was also excellent. I will definitely come back and can't recommend highly enough.

Pros: many vegan options , very accommodating for large group at busy lunch h

Cons: they serve meat?
