This small, 16-seat restaurant, opening in August 2010, is tucked behind downtown on the train-track side inside the Leathers building. The produce-driven menu rotates every few days, in step with the supply from local farms. Hours change seasonally. Reported closed to HappyCow.

great! - Edit

In response to the negative review, you can see the current menu on their website when making reservations. I went there for Valentine's day. The food was great, and the wine recommendations were excellent. It is a small quaint place to spend an intimate evening. DEFINITELY check it out!

Pros: quaint, delicious, innovative

Cons: small menu, hard to find

Excellent - Edit

Gymnopedie is wonderful. The food is delicious and creative, the service is friendly and helpful, and the space is beautiful. It's pricy if you're a poor college student, but definitely worth it.

In response to some criticisms in the first review: It's true that the menu is limited, but it changes constantly and is always delicious. And yes, the building isn't in a very visible location, but it's only a few minutes' walk from down town Athens, isn't difficult to find, and is very scenic.

Pros: excellent food, healthy cuisine, friendly staff

Mixed review - Edit

It is hard for me to write a poor review for a new vegan restaurant but honesty is the best policy.

First off, the location is not well marked and you need reservations to get in.

The menu is limited to one entrée and one to two appetizers, soups, salads and desserts. If you are not fond of the very limited selection you are out of luck. Portions are small so you would need to order an appetizer, salad and dessert.

The food is delicious and upscale. The flavor is well paired and unique. While some flavors can be mimicked at home most are exclusive to those who really know their way around a kitchen. Due to the limited space and menu many of the flavors are repeated. If a little is good than a lot is- sometimes too much.

The restaurant itself is small yet cozy. It is a great place for a romantic date but not if you plan to have a private conversation.

This is not a good place to take a meat eater or even some vegetarians. I left missing something of substance.

I highly recommend that every vegan tries this restaurant once to decide if it is worth going back.

Pros: all vegan, cozy

Cons: very limited menu, small portions, reservation only

meatlessmammy 29 Jan 2012 - Question, why would you take a meat eater to a vegan restaurant? Just curious.
