Fun spot, decent options, okay taste - Edit
If you are looking for bar food that is more than just cauliflower wings, GWARbar has a surprisingly great selection of vegan eats. Being bar food, though, most of it is fried. The fried tofu “ragnorocks” were okay, just not super flavorful without the dipping sauce. The cauliflower wings with the garlic buffalo sauce were also okay, but not the best cauliflower wings I’ve had. I definitely wish I would have gotten some of the other vegan options. Be aware that it is a small space and the decorations are very on-brand for GWAR, so quite gruesome…but I didn’t see any of the gruesomeness directed toward animals which I guess is not as bad??

Fun spot! - Edit
Unique spot with plenty of clearly labeled vegan options. Not my favorite food in the city, but worth checking out, especially if you’re into the concept.

Was pretty disappointing - Edit
Myself and two people with me were very excited to try this place while in town. My sandwich was pretty good (Hail Seitan) but it was all spice and not enough flavor (even with getting no hot sauce) and the fries on the side were bottom of the barely. Both people accompanying me said their meals were “just okay”
Read moreWe also shared some fried cauliflower that was okay (got the Carolina tangy) but the vegan ranch was gross and just tasted like apple cider vinegar, unfortunately.
Pros: Decent amount of vegan options, Unique place to visit, Easy to identify vegan options
Cons: Gross ranch, Underwhelming

I’ve had several meals here over the years and ever time the composition and flavor has been daring and different, heavily enjoy the metal/vegan fusion

GWARlicious - Edit
There were so many vegan options to choose from so it was hard to make a decision. I went with the Hail Seitan sandwich with tots and the brined breaded tofu app with motorbreath sauce. Mushroom sauce on the side was good on everything! Would come back to try the Gwartichoke burger!

Seitan’s balls - Edit
Very tasty, but very heavy and missed the mark on the ranch imo. The ranch tastes more like Alfredo sauce. Cauliflower tacos hit a home run for my partner.

Really good garbage food - Edit
If you’re looking for salty, greasy food done vegan, a solid beer selection, metal, and absurd Halloween decorations, GWARBar is the place for you! The food is really good for what it is (don’t expect to find a vegetable on the menu unless it’s been deep-fried) and the staff friendly. It’s a fun, funny environment and a great place to grab a drink and something to eat in Richmond.

Ok - Edit
I had the seitan nuggets ( I believe they’re called seitan’s balls on the menu) they were chewy and overcooked. I think it they were more uniform in shape they would have cooked more evenly, the taste of the wheat gluten is also very present they could have spent more time soaking in the stock. The mushroom tots were good , you can’t really go wrong with tots.

Cons: The options are mediocre , It’s a little pricey

I order the Hail Seitan every time and it just gets better and better. It's a BBQ sandwich topped with onion rings and hot sauce. They also have incredible french fries.

#1 for Veg-options and Nightlife - Edit
Omni GF and I started our trip to Richmond at GWARbar, and after other night spots let us down, we had to return. The buffalo cauliflower was amazing, as were the fries, and beer selection. The vegan sauces were spot-on! I was worried the music would overpower our visit, but it was at a good level, easy for conversation.

These guys deserve 5 stars - Edit
I wish Happy Cow would let me give GWARbar five stars. This place is awesome! Great food, interesting atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. Off street parking. We had the Hail Seitan and the Vegan Wopper and both were delicious. Vegan ranch was delicious! What's not to love?

Wow! Who would have thought that GWAR would be able to produce such a cool menu. The most exciting part was the vegan menu. All seitan is hand made in house.

Vegan meal - Edit
I ordered the Heil Seitan! The sandwich was delicious I'd get it again! The only thing I didn't like was the BBQ beans, they felt like they weren't fully cooked and lacked flavor! But other then that I'll be back to have another sandwich!

Unique atomsphere with great vegan options - Edit
GWARBar is a small, theme oriented bar that is a huge draw for local Hipsters. The décor is very funky and includes lots of fake blood splatters throughout.
Read moreWe started with the Vegan Wangs, which are Seitan-based. They were very tasty with a realistic consistency. The Buffalo sauce were nicely spicy.
I had the Vegan Wopper next. It's a Seitan-based Italian sausage sandwich that is very authentic tasting to the point that I looked for tell-tale grease on the bread. It definitely was not greasy! The sausage had a very nice kick. I had the House cut fries as a side and they were cooked until golden brown and very crispy. The fries were to die for.
GWARBar is very small, so you might want to get there before the rush. Unfortunately, the service is really slow. We waited well over 20 minutes just for a table to be cleared. That said, the staff is friendly.
If you can forgive the slow service, GWARBar is definitely worth a visit.
Pros: Tasty vegan options, Unique atomsphere, Reasonable prices
Cons: Very small, Glacial service, Unique atomshere
