Veggie Canjun - Edit

If you are vegan or veggie this is a great option. Although I would love to see more veggie options each day there generally 2 options. Great taste and veggie too.

Pros: fast and delicious , inexpensive , great flavor

Cons: small, staff ok , most of menu not veggie

Dependable! - Edit

Always at least one vegan option, sometimes two. Pretty much always at least two vegetarian options. Only downside is usually ONLY one vegan option, but they have to stay in business and realistically the vegan population is only a small fraction of their business. Also the vegan option on the menu is often the same for about a week at a time so it's not usually the kind of place I would eat two times in a week.

The atmosphere is very nice, and even when there are very long lines the staff whittles them down super quick. Free sample of anything on the menu and no pressure to buy if you don't like the sample of the vegan option.

You can always call in advance or check out their facebook to see what is vegan on any particular day.

Pros: vegan option, food quality, speed

Cons: only one vegan option

LOVE it! - Edit

This is my staple food whenever I am in Lexington and not with my mom. The food is reasonably priced and delicious. There is always one vegan option on the menu, and it is always spectacular. I cannot praise this place enough.

Good for the Money - Edit

I drove to Lexington to drop a friend off half way. We meet his ride and decided to eat at Gumbo Ya Ya as a vegetarian friendly recommendation.

Just to let you know they rotate their menu so be prepared. They did have two vegetarian dishes one spicier than the other. I ordered the mushroom and Spinach Etouffe the spicier of the two. It was really good over the thick white rice. I would have preferred a brown but it was still relatively good. Everything is pretty much made ahead of time. This is not gourmet dinning but simply good budget food.

The restaurant had interesting art throughout and the staff was friendly.

I'd avoid the praline desert as it was just pure sugar and a few nuts. The cookie was good though it too was a bit sugary.

In any case I found this to be somewhat unique and of healthy options for the vegetarian dinner. I'd recommend it if you are in the mood for its style.

Pros: Inexpensive, Decent main dishes, Friendly service

Cons: in a strip mall, sicking sweet deserts, Don't have brown rice or wheat pasta

Dinner for $5! - Edit

This is a budget diners dream. For five bucks you get a big plate of one of their stew like dishes over rice and pasta and a slice of garlic bread. My fav is the mock choux- a creamy saice lightly seasoned and perfect for seafood. I have issues with spicy food, but this one is always a safe choice. My beter half says the peanut sauce is the best canjun in town. It isn't offereed nearly as often as it should be, but he always orders it when it is on the menu. The rice and beans is always a reliable treat. Their bread pudding is also well worth saving room. Slathered in bourbon and buttery goodness it is dense and gooey and just lovely. This place is easy to get to and there is always plenty of parking. Staff is friendly and efficient.

Pros: cheap, easy parking, bread pudding

GREAT PLACE! - Edit

I drove into town and stopped here first thing- starving. It was very good... but I wish they had more than one vegan option per day. What they did have was very good and the price was great! Definitely check it out!

Delicious Cajun Creole - Edit

Gumbo Ya Ya is a great place for a quick dinner or lunch. The two vegetarian offerings change regularly, so there is plenty of variety. Two of the best are the Choux Choux E'touffee and Caponata. Servings are generous and come with garlic bread. Beer prices are very reasonable and include a selection of Abita. Try the Purple Haze.

Pros: tasty food, great value, friendly staff

Never disappointed - Edit

I love the staff and the food!! Once in a while they will be sold out of their vegan selection but they always have a vegan and vegetarian option. VERY HOT especially if you add they awesome special sauce. Cheap Beer!! Fun atmosphere and never a crowd. Menu rotates so you can't get the same thing all the time.

Pros: nice staff, big portions, HOT!!

Cons: sold out sometimes, needs more vegan options
