If you’re craving greens - Edit
We were in New Orleans for four days and ate here for lunch on the last day. I wish we had come sooner because I would have eaten the Gumbo Z’herbes (which is vegan) multiple times. There was also a white bean vegan dish of the day. The Gumbo Z’herbes was a deliciously spiced bowl of greens and red beans served with rice. I miss my daily greens when I go on vacation and this was exactly what I needed. Very reasonably priced too.

Tasty but small portions - Edit
Good knowledge about vegan dishes - vegan special advertised on board. My server was able to advise me about vegan sides too but the one I wanted wasn’t so I just had the special - black beans and rice. The portion was very small considering it is just beans and rice (ie cheap ingredients). I’m not sure it’s the best value for money. We didn’t get some of the items we asked for either, I think they are just very busy at the moment.

Fantastic vegan gumbo - Edit
Loved the staff, esp our waiter Will. Pleased to announce they have a vegan and veg menu in addition to their special. I had a bowl of gumbo and ordered a second. Had greens and mushrooms and was warming to the soul so I had to get a second. The honeydew daiquiri was lovely. My daughter got a virgin and the white beans and rice special with corn salsa and the cup size was just right.

Very tasty! - Edit
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our meal and service here. It was very busy when we arrived, and the seating is very tight. We really appreciated that our waiter took the time to get us a separate vegan menu. We both started with the gumbo z’herbes, and it was great, super flavorful. I had the white beans and rice for my entree, which was delicious with just the right amount of heat. My husband had the veggie po boy and enjoyed that as well. Portions were great and it was inexpensive.

Vegan Gumbo - Edit
They had two vegan options when we visited, a gumbo and white beans and rice. Both were thoroughly satisfying and provided us with the opportunity to enjoy “traditional” creole cuisine. Our waiter was friendly and accommodating. I recommend to others and would come back.

I thoroughly enjoyed the white beans with the house salad with pecan and balsamic dressing. The Sazerac cocktail (a NOLA classic) topped off a meal that pleased everyone. Do your damndest to eat in the idyllic little courtyard.

Average Food - Edit
Only one vegetarian/sometimes vegan option. The gumbo z’herbes was ok for a side. If you’re not too hungry just stop in for a fresh fruit daiquiri and the side soup.

The waiter told us the only vegan option was the black bean soup. We split it, it was fine but we definitely expected more. Everything tastes good after you put hot sauce on it.

Not super vegan friendly - Edit
Very popular spot so had to wait in line for quite some time before getting a table. You have to request the vegan menu. I had wanted the white beans but they were out of them so that was disappointing. The waitress kindly offered me a sample of the black beans and I was kind of disappointed with them so I ended up getting the veggie po boy (which seemed silly at a gumbo place) and a small cup of the gumbo z’herbes. The gumbo z’herbes was fantastic and the sandwich was actually quite delicious as well but it was truly just sautéed squash, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes. That’s it. Delicious but very plain. I guess that’s what I get for going to a NOLA gumbo shop and not wanting animal products.

Surprisingly delicious! - Edit
I was a little disappointed when told the vegan option of the day was rice and black beans. You can get that anywhere, I thought. Boy, was I wrong! The spice blend was absolutely delicious, unlike anything I've had before. Also tried the veggie gumbo, wasn't sure what to expect, and was blown away by that as well. Seating was in a charming outdoor space. Server was very attentive and sweet.

Worth the wait - Edit
We had a 20 min wait to get in, but the staff confirmed vegan options while we were on line. Waiter brought their cookbook to show me the recipes of what I was eating. Great service all around, and the food was so well seasoned. Not many vegan options but what's there is quality.

The vegan "gumbo" was watery and looked like a canned rice soup. I also tasted the meat and okra one my friend ordered and it tasted like cat food. Not a good spot for vegans or carnivores.

Only entres were vegan gumbo (was ok), and rice and beans. Maybe 1-2 appetizers/sides. The server wasn't friendly once she realized we weren't going to order a lot of booze. Apple cider was delicious but $6/glass
