Vegan Gumbo - Edit
They had two vegan options when we visited, a gumbo and white beans and rice. Both were thoroughly satisfying and provided us with the opportunity to enjoy “traditional” creole cuisine. Our waiter was friendly and accommodating. I recommend to others and would come back.

Exceeded expectations! - Edit
I thoroughly enjoyed the white beans with the house salad with pecan and balsamic dressing. The Sazerac cocktail (a NOLA classic) topped off a meal that pleased everyone. Do your damndest to eat in the idyllic little courtyard.

Average Food - Edit
Only one vegetarian/sometimes vegan option. The gumbo z’herbes was ok for a side. If you’re not too hungry just stop in for a fresh fruit daiquiri and the side soup.

Decent food for high price - Edit
The waiter told us the only vegan option was the black bean soup. We split it, it was fine but we definitely expected more. Everything tastes good after you put hot sauce on it.

Not super vegan friendly - Edit
Very popular spot so had to wait in line for quite some time before getting a table. You have to request the vegan menu. I had wanted the white beans but they were out of them so that was disappointing. The waitress kindly offered me a sample of the black beans and I was kind of disappointed with them so I ended up getting the veggie po boy (which seemed silly at a gumbo place) and a small cup of the gumbo z’herbes. The gumbo z’herbes was fantastic and the sandwich was actually quite delicious as well but it was truly just sautéed squash, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes. That’s it. Delicious but very plain. I guess that’s what I get for going to a NOLA gumbo shop and not wanting animal products.

Surprisingly delicious! - Edit
I was a little disappointed when told the vegan option of the day was rice and black beans. You can get that anywhere, I thought. Boy, was I wrong! The spice blend was absolutely delicious, unlike anything I've had before. Also tried the veggie gumbo, wasn't sure what to expect, and was blown away by that as well. Seating was in a charming outdoor space. Server was very attentive and sweet.

Worth the wait - Edit
We had a 20 min wait to get in, but the staff confirmed vegan options while we were on line. Waiter brought their cookbook to show me the recipes of what I was eating. Great service all around, and the food was so well seasoned. Not many vegan options but what's there is quality.

Great gumbo option and good to visit with all of your non veg friends, they will be thrilled. I will say, they have very few vegan options but the ones they do have are good.

The vegan "gumbo" was watery and looked like a canned rice soup. I also tasted the meat and okra one my friend ordered and it tasted like cat food. Not a good spot for vegans or carnivores.

The vegan dishes were not worth it. I ordered a salad and beans. Presentation was sloppy, the napkins were dirty, I wouldn’t go back.

Solid Southern Food in French Quarter - Edit
Had a good experience! Our waiter, Woody, was such fun and a great guy. He showed me their vegan-specific menu (you've gotta ask!) and suggested recommendations for me to make it even better.
Read moreI got the old favourite gumbo made vegan, and it was delicious! Actually more filling and hearty than my friends crabfish equivalent.
It's not a place that even tries to be vegan but it's a famous spot in the old town and a definite option if you're with omni friends.
Pros: Dedicated vegan menu, Great staff
Cons: Busy, can be waiting times

We wanted to try some authentic NOLA food and we found this place that has a special vegan and vegetarian menu. It's a very small menu but the food was excellent. We ordered a gumbo and a vegan po boy (made from grilled veggies)

Only two main entre vegetarian options - Edit
Only entres were vegan gumbo (was ok), and rice and beans. Maybe 1-2 appetizers/sides. The server wasn't friendly once she realized we weren't going to order a lot of booze. Apple cider was delicious but $6/glass

There was only one vegetarian option, which is a little restrictive. Granted, I enjoyed it, but having more than one vegetarian/vegan option, even a side dish maybe, would be nice.

Ask for the vegan menu - Edit
They have a separate vegan menu if you ask for it! I had the black beans as an appetizer and the gumbo as a main, although I wish I had the black beans as a main because they were incredible while the gumbo was average. The prices were cheap but there service was gold standard. Would recommend! Also go for a hurricane cocktail, it was delicious.

Great vegan gumbo & good for kids - Edit
Found this option on Happy cow and figured my non veg hubs, myself (vegan) and our mostly vegetarian kids (3&5) could all find something here. We were seated without a wait around 6:45 on a Monday in October. They have a vegan / veg menu. Quick pleasant service and of course drinks. Bottle of wine was very reasonable and we got cocktails for under $10 each. The vegan gumbo was delish. Not many other options but I thought it was worth it since being from philly, I really just wanted to try authentic gumbo!!

Surprisingly Delicious - Edit
There was only one vegan option on the menu, but it was surprisingly very good. They have a vegetarian gumbo with rice and a type of bean that changes each night. It didn't sound too exciting, but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved this place! It has a lot of charm and is a fun place to be. Expect a bit of a wait, as it is very popular.

We ate Saturday evening we waited about 15 min. The vegetarian gumbo was delicious and the black bean soup was good. The garlic hot sauce on the table added a little kick to our meal. Once we finished at left after 7p the line was outside the door and about 20 deep.

Fantastic Vegan Creole-style experience! - Edit
Quick service, pleasant atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating, and more vegan options than one would expect at a gumbo restaurant. The Gumbo Z'Herbes and black bean and rice creole-style vegetarian special were delicious! Also, our waiter bore a striking resemblance to the actor Cillian Murphy lol.
