AREPAS ARE NOT VEGAN - Edit
Wish I had read these reviews before eating here! Went in with best intentions, when a menu item says "vegan friendly" I go with it. It's fast food, the staff don't have this info to hand. But I was coming on here to write a review that was fine, for fast food, nice to have an option, then read in the other review that their allergen chart puts dairy in the arepas! Which is still true, I just looked! Arrgh! So, get a bowl if you have to come here, but I'd skip it otherwise.

Okay, I emailed corporate and they responded almost immediately: the PREMADE arepas are not vegan. You have to ask for a vegan arepa to be made specially. When I ordered the "vegan friendly arepa" this was NOT communicated she just picked up the next arepa on the pile and filled it for me. This is not communicated at all on their website, either, and I stand by my accusation of false advertising.

Wow delicious arepas - Edit
Their arepas are incredible. And it might seem like they only have one vegan option on the menu - but with the vegetable filling options you can make lots of different combinations.

Arepas contain dairy! Be careful! - Edit
Guasaca recently changed their menu to include a "vegan" option for their arepas, in addition to their vegetarian option. I spoke with 2 staff members about vegan (and gluten free) options and neither mentioned that there is dairy in the arepa(bread) itself. I ended up getting really sick after eating it, because I also happen to be lactose-intolerant (and gluten intolerant too). I went to their website and saw that the allergen info states both gluten and dairy are in the arepas. I tried emailing multiple locations and facebook messaging the company, with no response for over a month now. I ended up posting a negative review on their facebook page, which their marketing team answered.
Read moreApparently, they got so many complaints from gluten free/celiac people who got sick, that in mid-September 2019, they released a formal apology via social media. It stated that their staff was misinformed about allergens and everyone should go by the allergen information on the website, not by what the staff says. I asked their marketing team to inform them of the vegan issue as well.
That being said, if you still want to chance eating there, stick to the salads or rice bowls.
Pros: Food tastes good
Cons: Staff doesn't know what Vegan means, Unresponsive to online inquiries
