All vegan spot so a MUST TRY and they have sweet and savoury🤩🤩 They’re known for their donuts, but their sandwiches and bagels are also soo delicious
We had:
1. The reuben(esque) - pastrami style homemade deli meat, with cheese Russian dressing (vg mayo, soy sauce, mustard, Tabasco, tomato sauce) and sauerkraut
💚 woooow, fave part and must try this!!
2. Don’t-eat-chicken-mayo sourdough sandwich - roast chicken-style housemate seitan with mayo, and I added pickles
3. Chocolate and mint donut
💚 so much chocolate and loved a vg sweet option as rare to find! the top had an aero type chocolate bar which was delicious and need to find out how to buy these
4. Mini cinnamon donut
💚 delicious and a nice bite sized great
5. Oat milk flat white and oat milk iced latte
💚 only do oat milk here (@oatly ) and the coffee was absolutely delicious! best we have found in Cape Town so far
Hiiighly recommend trying if you’re in Cape Town, and they have a great menu of so many (all vg) options included vegan egg breakfast bagels

I had a vegan pistrami style sandwhich which was delicious.. the doughnut was perhaps a bit sweet for me, the chocolate glaze was not very rich in flavour. I think I also got there a bit late in the day so they were not as fresh, so I would visit earlier next time.

This place had everything I wanted, a good chunky sandwich that doesn’t skimp on the seitan and “cheese”, fluffy donuts, oat mylk soft serve with chocolate chip cookie topping and sprinkles, and more! The herbed muffin is a winner!

Blown away. Damn. Tried like 5 different donuts. The chai and ginger donut was my personal favourite. Also had soft serve with this brownie/cookie combo, which was delicous. And sandwiches I can’t remember the names of that were also… delicious. Highly recommended.

The cutest sandwich/bagel shop in a little garden square; had the no chicken baguette as a bagel, and also had a lemon drizzle donut which was unreal. Plenty of options, and also have gluten free I think. Also had a very strong oat milk iced coffee, one of my favourite Cape Town finds!

we LOVE grumpy and runt. the sandwiches are so satisfying and the donuts are amazing. we usually order delivery but have been to the restaurant a couple of times. it's tiny in a quiet little square near downtown. the owners are lovely.

This place is amazing! It's a small little establishment in a cute outdoor plaza that not only serves as a restaurant/deli/bakery but also sells a few vegan pantry items/snacks as well. You can order your food to "eat in" or to go. The shop itself does have a tiny sitting area indoors, but there is some nice outdoor seating.
Read moreThey regularly update their instagram with what donut flavors they have over the following few days, and they also have a nice-sized menu of sandwiches and things, although I haven't tried any except the scrambled tofu "runny egg" sandwich on sourdough, which I'm addicted to and get each time.
Those donuts, though? I have had some darn good vegan donuts throughout the world, but these are the BEST. I'm very sensitive to sugary/oily food so can't have decadent desserts all that often, but when I DO splurge, it's usually on Grumpy and Runt's donuts.
It's also worth noting that the location is great! It's roughly a 5 minute walk from the Company's Garden, which is surrounded by museums and attractions, and is near the bustling Long Street. If you are a tourist in the city, this is a great place to grab a late breakfast, brunch, lunch, or snack on a day that you are touring the city center. Regardless, if you find the seating areas full at Grumpy and Runt, you are a short walk away from some great picnic spots in the gardens!

Gosh I love this place so much! Their donuts are out of this world. And their sandwiches are super yummy. Obviously this isn’t the healthiest place - but when you feel like a treat this is 💯 worth the calories. This is a tiny store and there is only really room to sit outside. More of a take away place than dine in
