Tasty and fresh

Chick pea salad sandwich is delicious, nice lemon and herb dressing, open face on gluten free bread. Equally good is the quinoa/black bean/butternut squash/avocado bowl, also topped with a yummy dressing. (Uploaded photos of both.) Portions are a little light. Overall good food that I keep coming back to.
There have been no burnt chicken incidents in my half dozen times here. Sounds like the previous reviewer hit it after a kitchen accident....

Grown? Groan!

I was very hopeful of finding in this café/bookstore an alternative to ION down the street, whose plethora of fried food, mock meats, and white flour has left me little to eat there, as I define "plant-based" as foods in which the plants form the base and remain largely recognizable. Here the bookstore is managed by R.J. Julia Bookstore in Madison, which I regard highly, so the bookstore inside of which Grown is located was reason enough for me to want to visit. Thus, I walked into the bookstore with an open mind to match my empty stomach. But then I was greeted by ...

… the stench of burnt chicken that filled the air on the entrance level.

To spare myself from gagging, I did not sit down to eat. Instead, I tried to flee the reek by descending to the lower level, where there are only books. No escape. There, too, the smell of burning flesh filled the air.

No thanks. I tried, but I could not persevere. I walked out neither browsing any books nor sampling any food. Later, judging by all the negative reviews on Yelp about the food and service, I realized I likely spared myself disappointment in the food. I nevertheless remain curious about what other more resilient vegheads will say here not about the air but about the food.

Cons: the reek of burning flesh that filled the air
