I had dark chocolate and fig and both were delicious!

Only fruit options

When I visited they only had fruit options. After reading reviews Ive hopes they had some chocolate. Maybe next time.

Pros: Friendly staff

Know your options

It might be a chain, but the gelato is good. I asked about vegan options, the staff at this location told me the dark chocolate and the fruit flavors were vegan. I didn’t think to ask about cones so I got one. It wasn’t until the next gelato place we tried told us cones are not vegan. The gelato itself was good and the prices were reasonable.

Side tip: Every gelato place I went to in Italy had vegan flavors. It tends to be Dark Chocolate and the fruit flavors. Some stores may vary. Cones are usually not vegan (contain butter) but sometimes places have individually wrapped vegan cones. When in doubt ask :)

Chain gelato shop. Move on.

Much better options for gelato exist in florence. Don't waste your time in this fake "artisanal" chain.

Chain Gelato Shop

Grom's are all over Italy. Their dark chocolate flavor has no dairy but is not vegan because it has egg in it. The lemon flavor is yummy though!

OK ice cream, unfriendly staff

Everything was in Italian, and there were no clearly marked vegan options. The staff seemed rather uninterested with their customers, and were quite rude. Ended up just going for the lemon sorbet, which was ok. Other places like, Eduardo (which isn't far from Grom) are a lot better.

Pros: Taste was good

Cons: Unfriendly staff, No clearly marked vegan options

Gelateria

A little off the main path.
The gelato I chose was a bit more ...pasty? than I'd like to admit.
Although the other flavors seemed to be fine.

Pros: Gluten free Close to main attractions

A step above the norm

Grom is not merely another gelateria with a few vegan sorbets: They are making commendable efforts for ecological sustainability, growing their own organic fruits for use in their sorbets, using FSC-certified paper and compostable utensils.

As another reviewer has noted, the dark chocolate is *not* vegetarian (contains eggs). As of May 2014, none of Grom's gelatos are vegan (though most of the sorbets are). For ingredient list, see http://www.grom.it/ita/intolleranze.php (but keep in mind it might not be completely up to date).

Indeed, it is unfortunate that so few vegan items are available, because they know how to do them well. On my visit, there were only three, and of these only one (limone) was labeled organic.

I hope Grom will continue to move toward a more vegan-friendly and eco-friendly model.

Pros: organic and eco-friendly

Cons: limited vegan options

A waste of time

Although there was only one review on this site I had sen so many rave reviews on other holiday sites that we decided to try it. After queueing for about half an hour I found only one vegan sorbet, tired and surly staff and silly prices.

Cons: No vegan choice, Surly staff, Silly prices

Only the usual vegan fruit sorbet options

Although Grom does offer a very delicious very dark chocolate (I mean seriously dark) sorbet, for vegans you only have that one and 3 fruit sorbet varieties to choose from, so it's not much better than any other gelateria. It is nice that it's organic, but I didn't find the labeling to be super clear (flavors listed only in Italian and what looked like Japanese).

In summary, if you love dark chocolate, go for that flavor. Otherwise it's just okay.

It's sort of down an alley right off one of the main plazas in Florence.

Pros: Amazing dark chocolate flavor

Cons: Limited flavor options

Information upon the dark chocolate sorbet at Grom is incorrect, infact this flavor is not vegan because it contains eggs. You can find a clear scheme of the main ingredients of all their products at www.grom.it/ita/intolleranze.php
