Vegan Options By The Bucket Load - Edit
Greens Cafe & Bistro is in the lovely village of Grasmere and they cater for every kind of diet, so vegans are welcome.
We were lucky to get a table and first impressions always count, so when my coffee was served and I was placing my food order and mentioned vegan, the chap took my coffee away and brought it back, replacing the shortbread, with two dairy free vegan chocolates. How is that for attention to detail.
I chose a jacket potato with spicy houmous, salad and mango chutney dressing. I love a good jacket potato and with the big dollop of spicy houmous, I was a happy vegan, made even happier, when I bought a takeaway lime and coconut cupcake, to have later. The cupcake was delicious, with a really zesty lime flavour and plenty of icing on the top. Definitely one to remember when next in Grasmere.
Pros: Vegan Options, Vegan Cakes, Very accommodating

Friendly, vegan friendly haven in the Lakes - Edit
We were so relieved to find this super eatery in the Lakes. It does serve non-veggie fare but has plenty of vegan options (on the menu was a couple of salads, bean and ale pie, bangers and mash, soups, sausage rolls, cakes and sundaes - the things I can remember!)
I had Green's platter - a super salad with hummus, quinoa, sun-dried toms, seeds, nut, blue berries, strawberries, pear, olives, lettuce and lovely bread. It was very nice. Husband had the sausage roll which came with a side salad. We saved room for a dessert - shared an ice-cream sundae - chocolate brownie (yum) with vanilla ice-cream and fruit. (pictures attached)
Pros: Good options, Lovely location , Friendly atmosphere
Cons: Serves meat

vegan cakes!!! - Edit
Lovely little cafe with a good variety of vege and vegan options. Had the soup and sandwich combo and had crunchy veg and tomato soup with two types of houmous (chilli and basil) sandwiches. Delicious!! For pudd we had vegan chocolate brownie with vegan ice cream and carrot cup cake. With drinks was just under £30 which is a bit expensive but good quality good. Everything well labelled. Gluten free options available
Pros: friendly and informative staff, vegan cakes, Central location

Fantastic; veggie, vegan AND dog friendly!!! - Edit
What a little gem. Lucky Grasmere to have this wonderful little cafe.It serves veggie and vegan options on pretty much all its food. These are not variations on a meal but genuine vegetarian or vegan meals. These days finding a cafe (this deserves the title of restaurant!) that understands us vegans is rare indeed as few eateries actually appreciate the difference. This place does and they produce delicious high quality food. If your a doggy lover your in for a double treat. Take your companion for a walk around beautiful Grasmere and you'll feel deserving of a bit of indulgence at Greens!
Pros: Small, Choice
Cons: Very popular , Limited internal seating

lovely vegan afternoon tea - Edit
I booked ahead to have the vegan afternoon tea consisting hummus and veg sandwich, "sausage roll" and two cupcakes with frosting, with a choice of tea. Good value at £13. I would go back to try the other vegan dishes on the menu which are clearly marked. Nice cafe atmosphere with outside seating too. Gluten free options also available. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. Loved it!
Pros: vegan options clearly labelled , nice atmosphere
Cons: could get really busy, no baby changing facilities that I could see

Regretting not having cake... - Edit
We've eaten here twice now and both times I had a vegan 'Cumberland sausage' baguette, which is in actual fact just Linda McCartney sausages. But the salad and onion marmalade are amazing. Possibly a bit on the expensive side, but the staff were very friendly and it's always good to find a place that feeds both me and the avid meat eater well. They also have vegan brownie! But for some reason I decided to be healthy and not order that the second time I went. Regretting that now.
Pros: friendly staff, good food
Cons: pricey

Really good vegan food - Edit
Went to the restaurant and was really happy with the food and service, had the vegan sharing platter for a starter and it was amazing, then a vegan cottage pie also very good, only downside was it was very expensive, would definitely recommend
Pros: Lots of vegan options, all vegan labeled clearly
Cons: expensive

Excellent food - Edit
Glad to have stumbled upon this little cafe in Grasmere.
A good selection of meals that were either vegan or could be made vegan along with various vegetarian dishes and lots of gluten free options.
I had an item from the specials menu which was roast vegetable soup with a Mediterranean salad. It was delicious! Great portion size! and pleased to find homemade bread without soya in!(as i have an intolerance)
For those who can have soya there was options for vegan cakes, soya milk for tea, soya ice cream and some other things i can't remember.
I highly recommend this place! really excellent food. Definitely one of the best vegan meals i have had whilst eating out.
I would give a 5 out of 5 happy cows if i could!
Pros: Good portion size!, Homemade bread!
Cons: A lot of soya based vegan alternatives

Ever reliable!! - Edit
We first ate at Green's a couple of years ago and yesterday we returned for a third time. We had lunch and as before the food was really excellent. Although not exclusively Veggie/Vegan, they offer an excellent range of Veg/Vegan menu options, plus some in the daily specials menu. There is always plenty to chose from, with enough variety to satisfy even the fussiest of us - and we are pretty picky! The owners go out of their way to try to accommodate different dietary requirements and their staff are attentive and friendly.
Green's now opens several evenings a week and we returned yesterday evening - it was warm and welcoming and once again the food was really excellent. If you're visiting the area, we recon you can't beat this place for choice, value and great tasting veggie and vegan food.
Pros: Great choice for vegans and veggies, Flavourful, lovely food, Friendly welcoming staff and owners
Cons: Only one - closed Thursdays!!
