Tasty vegan food - Edit
A lot of sites indoors and a few outdoors. Large buffet with many vegan dishes. Payment by weight. Food can also be taken to go. Free filtered water. Dessert area with cakes and desserts.
Read moreWe enjoyed the salad selection very much, because there were many vegan options. With the warm main courses the vegan selection was unfortunately somewhat limited. The desserts were great! We tried a vegan chocolate cake, which was very tasty and also the brownies were good. The cookies tasted okay, but nothing special. Altogether salad and main courses were quite expensive, many desserts however not, since their prices are fixed and they are not weighed. A nice restaurant with many healthy and tasty vegan options, but partly expensive.
Pros: Clearly labeled vegan dishes, No fish/meat served, Free filtered (very good) water
Cons: Expensive

Wow Buffet - Edit
Great cold and hot buffet. I went only once but my friend who is a regular tells me the options change often. The dessert buffet was amazing too: lots of vegan options and all I tried was delicious and not too sweet (which is always a plus for desert I in my opinion).

Beautiful!! - Edit
My partner and I both really enjoy dining at The Green Door • The space itself is so bright & open, and the overall atmosphere feels relaxed & positive. We haven't been during peak periods (we tend to avoid them everywhere), so we've been able to sit comfortably and talk with friends, as well (including those with babies), and everyone loves it!
Read moreAnd now, the food!! My goodness!!
There's so much variety, and everything is just beautiful • From salads to mains, and a pretty vast array of desserts, too! Everything is clearly labeled, and they're looking out for everyone... Whether you're vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, living with allergies or even some combination of the above (which is the case for me), there's plenty for everyone to choose from!
My partner was, admittedly, a bit nervous about paying by weight, but we've both managed to fill our plates for only about ten dollars each & certainly haven't left feeling hungry • So, fear not; it can be done!
Pros: Vegan and gluten-free options , Everything clearly labeled , Bright open space

Dinner - Edit
Me and my husband went for dinner yesterday. I have to say I loved the idea of a buffet we could actually eat. The salad bar was great. The hot food was mediocre. There was no service at all. And you had to clean your own table. So for me overall the experience was a let down. I feel if you are going to spend $60 on dinner you really should not have to clean up after yourself. That is part of the reason for eating out. So I would not return to this restaurant.

Awesome buffet - Edit
This was the first vegetarian/vegan buffet I had tried and I really enjoyed all of the food I had. If it wasn’t so far away from where I lived I would definitely have gone back for more

Amazing Vegan Options - Edit
Just came back from a long trip to Sherbrooke for a cross country race, and needed a huge bowl of tons of delicious vegan food..... and I definitely found the right place! I got a massive takeout container with tons of hot items, salads, and ever desserts, and it was all vegan!! It was not to expensive, had a massive selection, and was so tasty! I would definitely recommend this place.

Great Dinner - Edit
Excellent selection of food items. Buffet style so a bit chaotic to make selections during busy dinner rush, but it helped to do a quick look around first. Obviously very popular - we had to wait to be seated, but it wasn't too long.

Still an old faithful - Edit
As stated, this restaurant has been around for some time, and has enough variety to satisfy both carnivores and vegans. Food is fresh (helped by volume for sure)& generally tasty. I do feel it relies a lot on the fact that it’s well known and one of the first around to remain popular. They could update their selection with some more modern selections. Also, you can see they definitely want to please the omnis. Many of the hot options could easily be made vegan by substituting cheese with a friendlier, vegan option without sacrificing taste. It can also get pricey fast when paying by the weight. Best to get small tastes of a variety, to avoid wasting food.
Read morePros: Good option for both crowds , Tasty vegetarian options , Good gluten free options
Cons: Somewhat “disconnected@ staff, Can get pricey fast , Could easily have more vegan options,

Rainbow food - Edit
This place is delightful. I've been coming for years and everyone I've introduced it to has become a loyal patron. Full of vegan and gluten-free options, there is so much choice and you can tell the cooks/owner really care about good food. It's a great place to show your friends how delicious plant-based food is. Go! And enjoy.

Nice Spot - Edit
Pleasant environment and ample seating, although I was there at around 3 pm so it wasn't particularly busy. I have walked by when it is very busy and people are forced to get take out. Having said that, it is nice to see a vegan/vegetarian busy a lot of the time.
Read moreThe food was awesome, lots of choices for me as a vegan, with clear labels. It was very pricey and was a pay by weight system so unfortunately I didn't get much for my $15 lunch.
I went there alone so the food choices were easy and clear. The problem I have with some veggie places is they don't offer much to people that don't like the idea of vegan or vegetarian food mostly because of misunderstandings about what we eat. This place offers meals that a meat eater could enjoy without having the veggie thing right in there face.
Overall it is a great cafeteria style place that really makes a vegan feels accepted in the main stream. The menu are foods that make a complete meal and don't leave you feeling like you just ate a bunch of side dishes.
Pros: Diverse food choices, pleasant environment, Easy to read labels on everything
Cons: Expensive, A bit dirty or run down, very young staff, no balance with older staff

Many choices and good food - Edit
I had dinner once and arrived a bit late so there wasn't all the stuff they usually have but still was a good place to eat. There is a large buffet with vegan options clearly labelled. The food is very well prepared and healthy. They lack some decent vegan options for desserts otherwise it could be a perfect spot. The place is nice and the staff is friendly. Recommended if you're in the area!

The food was alright, but didn't have any wow factor. However, there was a good variety of food as well as desserts, which is awesome. The interior is really cute and cozy. Overall, not my favorite restaurant but I would go again because it is easy to find vegan food here.

Meh...overpriced and dated vegetarian cafe - Edit
I really don't understand why everyone raves about this cafe. I have eaten here several times and have always been underwhelmed (considerably). First of all, it is self-service and you pay by weight (my last plate of food cost over $14!!). Secondly, the vegan hot options are lacking...the last few times I was there the principal option, aside from sides and dhal, was a bland broccoli & tofu stir-fry (really? this is what I make when I am in a hurry or have run out of food in my fridge). There are a number of salads, some of which are tasty, but cold salad alone is not going to keep me coming back. Third, the desserts are often dense and uninspired. Finally, I feel that the customer service is hit-or-miss, and I really don't like having to scrape my plate into a bucket of slop, after paying $20+ for a meal.
Read moreEnd verdict: I think that this restaurant is past it's 'best by' date. It is using a model from the eighties, and hasn't really kept-up with the vegetarian / vegan dining revolution. I think it holds a special place in the hearts of long-time Ottawan veggies, but if this is not you...you might do better elsewhere (especially if you are vegan).
Pros: Cold salad bar, Cold filtered water (free)
Cons: Price, Vegan hot options, Desserts

So/so at best. - Edit
I have never preferred the Green Door. Items have frequently been without labels and although that was better the last few times I visited, I was not terribly impressed by the food. Some of the dishes are far too salty, and the enormous slice of vegan chocolate cake was terrible. I think it is a shame the desserts are pre-sliced as I would prefer to try many things instead of gamble and lose as I did with the cake. The vegan brownies are to die for.

Excellent food, with lots of choice - Edit
I love the Green Door. In case you do not know, it is a buffet style where your food is paid for by weight, which I like very much because you can get just a little snack or a large meal. It is not particularly cheap but the food is high quality and if you are fortunate enough to be able to afford it the money is wroth it.
Read moreMany options are both vegan and also gluten free, but they also have lots of bread choices and some meals include milk and cheese, which is nice because non-vegans can also enjoy their experience.
I usually avoid busy times, but even at peak periods during the day you are able to move through the buffet line relatively quickly. They recently expanded into the space next door so there is A LOT of seating now and the new lighting makes the ambience very pleasant.
Pros: Delicious, Lots of choice
Cons: A little busy during peak periods

Went there with 2 young children and 2 adults. It is like Le Commensal in Montreal, even the price range. You get your food and then go to pay at the counter. A lot of choices for cold meals. Less than 10 choices for hot meals.

the green door is a very quaint, relaxed local buffet style vegetarian/vegan restaurant. Every thing is well marked so you can make choices, and then is weighed. Great salad bar with abundant choices and a hot buffet that offered delicious options. I highly recommend the green door for a casual lunch or dinner.
