Savory, Fresh, Reasonable, Half Vegan - Edit

Any place that makes a decent vegan fresh soup gets my attention. But this place has an often changing option of really lovely flavors when it comes to the soup. The menu is half vegan, the rest veg. I think it fits in the realm of comfort food (house made sausage analogs, fried herbed potatoes, french toast, British style breakfast beans). Solid food, but not too heavy, not the usual tofu options, but fresh produce developed into a savory and delicious meal.

Pros: Fresh, House made vegan soup, Calm and relaxing.

Very good food - Edit

Green Door Cafe has some really good food (and well spiced too), and you can try multiple dishes with their lunch buffet (not all you can eat, but there's 3 dishes for $14 as of June 2017 plus salad and a small dessert). About half the lunch buffet is vegan. Examples of vegan buffet dishes include spicy red lentils, a sweet potato-kale-Brussel sprouts dish and coconut mashed potatoes. A la carte dishes are also available, and usually there are a few dishes not on the menu listed on the black board inside. The service is very friendly, and the ambiance is great. Portion sizes are just moderate, so order a little extra if you're really hungry.

Pros: Great Food with Nice Variety, Great Ambiance, Friendly Service

Cons: Slightly Expensive (though Moderate for La Jolla), Not 100% Vegan

Flavorful - Edit

We had the special black bean soup with a hearty whole grain bread with a spicy hummus. The soup had kick. The portobello mushroom burger with BBQ sauce was flavorful and tantalized the taste buds with sweet and sour flavors. The salad featured greens grown on site. The family owned business provided personalized care. Almost forgot to tell you about the garbanzo bean chocolate cake--amazing.

Pros: Good value, Friendly, Delicious

Amazing - Edit

Martin said he makes the best vegan burgers of all time. I thought the burger I had at Trocadero in Barcelona couldn't be topped. I was wrong! I wish I lived in San Diego. It was so good I had to review it while we were still in the restaurant!!

Pros: friendly , excellent quality, chill vibes

Delicious Vegan Food in La Jolla - Edit

As a long time vegan, I came upon this new restaurant. Indeed, La Jolla could benefit from having a good solid vegan restaurant, and Green Door Cafe delivers on this promise. The owner Martin has a long history of catering, sources locally from Suzie's Farm among others, and clearly has the making of fine tasting food as his passion.

I enjoyed the Vegan 'Comfort' Plate today. It was a satisfying, filling meal. The vegan sausage was wonderful. Any new vegans will appreciate the straightforward dishes, and those with discriminating palates will appreciate the subtlety of the ingredients. We will return here for sure.

The restaurant is super clean, has a cafe feel to it, great music ranging from classical to Pink Floyd, and the ever presence of Martin lights up the cafe.

Pros: Vegan 'Comfort' Plate, Clean and Inviting Atmosphere, A chef who loves vegan food
