A good, filling salad - Edit

This salad bar in the middle of Great Food Hall is well worth visiting for a tasty, large salad bowl for a reasonable price (for the area).

You start on the right and the staff really encourage you to choose one of the types of lettuce to line the bowl. You dodn't have to choose a lettuce, but as the lettuce is one of the cheaper ingredients, the staff really push it first. Then you move slowly left and simply ask for whatever you want. There are lots of types of veggies such as beetroot, onion, peppers etc. There are bowls of pasta but be careful as some are not always veggie. Moving further left and you come to the area with (sadly) meat such as bacon bits and tuna and in this part you can also get some things like sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and garlic in oil. The whole choice is really good. The staff really pack down the bowl so you can fill it up. Then there is a choice of lots of dressings, though I usually ask for no dressing.

I find the salad bowl lasts me for about 6 hours as the large one is capable of holding lots of salad and I just put the bowl in the fridge at work and keep going back to it every couple of hours. Thus I think it is really good value.

Shame it's not all veggie though.

Pros: Very tasty, Healthy, Plenty of variety

Cons: There are bowls with murdered animal parts

Filling and healthy salad made to order - Edit

This is another one of my go-to places to grab a salad for lunch or dinner. They have two options - medium for HKD 63 and large for HKD 72, although the medium is pretty substantial given how much they stuff in the bowl. I think it's a good deal compared to other salad places because you can select as many items as you want from a wide range and they always fill the bowl.

They have a choice of leaves (spinach, rocket, mixed leaves, romaine), pasta, carrot, beetroot, mushroom, cucumber, sweet corn, broccoli, tomatoes, pumpkin, different kinds of beans (kidney, black), brown lentils, chickpeas, tofu, olives, artichoke, jalapeño peppers, and seeds. I skip the cheese and meat sections. They now have premium options also like avocado and grilled aubergine for HKD 15 extra each.

They have choice of dressings but given I can't tell what's vegan, I ask for olive oil, balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper. They they mix it all up for you, or you can take the dressing separately.

No seating, but you can take the escalator up to the HK Park on a sunny day.

Sometimes long queues at lunchtime, especially if the weather is bad, but they process quite quickly.

Pros: wide range of salad options , can select whatever you want for fixed price

Cons: no seating , long queue at peak times

Great Food Hall - Salad Bar, Hong Kong - Edit

I had a lunch here today. The salad boxes are 63 hkd for medium or 72 hkd for large. Thus there's obviously much less expensive around (e.g. Fresca, Catch Juicery).

As per the listing this isn't an entirely vego operation. Most of the salad choices are vego. If you go to the sandwich section the food there looks decidedly non-vego.

This place is an option to get something if you are in Pacific Place. My personal preference nearby is Vegetarian Service in the Admiralty Centre (since the food there is all vego and more competitively priced). That doesn't mean though that what I had today wasn't enjoyable. It was tasty and pretty substantial as should be the case for 72 HKD.

Pros: vegan friendly

Cons: Pricey, Lots of non vego stuff on sale

salads that pack a punch - Edit

when the occasional salad craving strikes, i head to great food hall in pacific place, admiralty. it's one of the most comprehensive and generous salad bars i know of in hong kong, charging not by number of items but by how much can be stuffed into a bowl (hkd63 for a medium, hkd72 for a large). cheaper salads can be found elsewhere, but here the salads pack a punch.

yesterday i had a medium bowl consisting of spinach, lettuce, rocket, some other leafy green, julienned carrot, black beans, lentils, cannellini(?), onion, roasted garlic, artichoke, broccoli, cauliflower, beetroot and capers. without a doubt i'd hit my five-a-day target.

food has been fresh on all visits and staff always friendly, even when i try to overstuff the bowl.

while meats and dairy are among the salad options, as a vegetarian i'm more than happy with the veggie options on offer. the only problem for vegans might be the suitability of dressings, though it's pretty obvious which are vegan-unfriendly, eg honey mustard, yoghurt. i've contacted them through their website with a suggestion to label those that are vegan and hope they will look into it.

if you don't feel like choosing, they have pre-mixed salads and sandwiches available, some vegetarian, and discounted after a certain time of day.

Pros: fresh and delicious, good variety, value for money

Cons: disposable bowls and cutlery
