A treasure ✨

I’ve been hearing about Grateful Bread for years, and it did not disappoint! We arrived 10 minutes prior to opening, and a line was already forming outside the door, and the restaurant was flooded with people throughout our entire meal. We ordered the red lentil and Moroccan tomato soups and the cinnamon roll, and they were well worth the wait! The cinnamon roll had the perfect bread/filling/frosting ratio, which is often hard to find. It was $3 for a cinnamon roll the size of my face, and it was almost too much for two people to finish.
They take only cash, are open only a couple hours on a couple days a week, and sometimes they’ll decide last minute that they don’t want to open that weekend, so you’ve really got to follow them on Instagram or Facebook to stay in the loop! The unpredictability could be frustrating, but I think it’s part of the fun! The fact that people are willing to put up with so much nonsense from Grateful Bread should tell you how delicious and worth-it their food is!

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Quirky, unique atmosphere , Inexpensive

Cons: Unpredictable hours , All dishes are single-use throwaway

Some of the Best Soup in Town

This is a popular vegetarian place for students, professionals, and any one else who enjoys a quick, simple lunch. Recently they offered four different vegetarian varieties of Mac & Cheese (green chili, roasted cauliflower, garlic, and chipotle). There were also four vegan choices: Creole Hoppin' John, Moroccan Tomato Soup, Red Lentil Soup and Asian Mushroom Soup. The offerings may change from time to time but it's all delicious and filling. The scone flavors were cheese or toasted coconut and they have giant cookies for dessert. There are no vegan bread or cookie offerings. Drinks include bottled beverages or self serve water. Soda crackers are on the table. The lines for service can be long and the tables fill up quickly. But people don't linger and tables open up. Take out available.

Pros: Delicious food, Inexpensive, Kitschy decor

Best in Town!

Great little place when you want some delicious soup or mac-n-cheese. Not a fancy place, no table service, just good veg food!

It used to make the best bread in the city (thus Grateful Bread), but has since transformed into a vegetarian soup shop.

If you're ovo-lacto, you've GOT to get a cheese scone!

It's a family run place with character and an ever-evolving decor.

Grumpy, finicky folks looking to be pampered should probably stay away.

Pros: Vegan soups, Good value

Cons: Slow service, Long lines on weekends, Throw away bowls
