the other girls can’t compete

LOVE grasshopper. any place w the audacity to serve “vegi-squid” and the generosity to keep their prices Boston-reasonable is a winner in my book. I keep getting the chow foon noodles because they’re sooooo good but excited to keep exploring!

Their lunch specials are great deals and come with rice and soup on the side. Super delicious!

Bland and Tasteless

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at grasshopper in Allston.

I ordered the “No Name” and I think they misheard me and gave me the “No Taste” instead. I was left eating flavorless, soggy, chunks.

The scallion pancake was absolutely horrid. I could eat more than a single bite.

When I went to pick up my order the restaurant didn’t appear to be clean.

The food was expensive for the low-quality. I will not be coming again.

Pros: Lots of options

Cons: Flavorless and Bland, Expensive, Grimy/Dirty Restaurant

Amazing

I've been eating here for about twenty years, and it's still my absolute favorite place to eat in the Boston area. I've tried just about everything on the menu, and there were few things I disliked. The fried wontons and vermicelli rolls are my favorite. 10/10 would recommend. (Parking usually available a block away at the neighborhood park)

Pros: Delish, well-priced

Cons: want to order everything

Fantastic for catering

We ordered large quantities of a few dishes to feed 10 people for a small party: wontons, tofu hand rolls, Hot and Sour Soup, No Name, House Ginger Lobster, Eggplant Tofu Surprise, Chow Foon Noodles w/Beef. The quantities were HUGE. Probably could serve 20 people. The price was amazing; with tip the total was just $150

My fave was the Hot and Sour Soup. The other good dishes were the Chow Foon Noodles and the Wontons. YUM. The Eggplant and Ginger Lobster needed more flavor. The tofu hand rolls were ... not good.

Pros: Huge portion, Great price

Fantastic!

Just ordered takeout from grasshopper for the second time in as many months, after not having it for over 25 years (moved to suburbs). It is just fantastic. Wonderful selection of appetizers! Tonight I also had the lobster entrée, which was phenomenal – a very delicate taste with all the ginger.

The food is always good and always vegan.

Pros: Lots of options, Delicious, Authentic

Cons: Appetizers are somewhat expensive for what you get, I wish there were more deserts

Loved it!!

I’ve missed Chinese food so much! The no name hit the spot for me in terms of greasy perfect weekend take out. Huge portions that could easily be shared with 2 people.

Food was hit or miss

Some things were great (orange chicken, vermicelli chicken) and others were a bit bland (wonton soup). The “nest” had a fake shrimp in it that I didn’t like at all.

Value for money

This was the first time in the US where I actually felt like I didn't overpay for vegan food. The portions are HUGE and you could easily share one dish been two people. We ordered the watercress with ginger, sweet and sour sensation and eggplant tofu surprise. The sweet and sour sauce was really delicious but I would have loved it if they served it with the traditional pineapple, carrots and red pepper like they do with the regular sweet and sour they offer (I didn't realise until after I ordered). The staff were very nice.

Pros: Affordable vegan food in New England (a rarity!)

Really bad cooking ...

We tried the appetizer samples, salad, and faux lobster entree to get a bit of everything. Other than the salad, the other stuff was incredibly heavy and bland.

Pros: Lots of options in the menu

Cons: Heavy, bland food

So many options!

This place has pages and pages of options! Hard to find as vegan dishes like mock meat dumplings and wonton soup. The taste of the food was overall alright, not all the mock meats have the best flavor. I will be going back again! Low prices and huge portions.

Truly Dope Spot

Excellent all vegan spot. Portions are huge, staff is friendly, and the food is great.

Sometimes the food is too oily for my taste. Additionally, the menu is quite large and overwhelming. These are minor complaints, and I really recommend checking Grasshopper out.

Pros: All vegan , Good value , Friendly staff

Cons: Too oily

Great place for vegans and meat eaters!

I love, love, love Grasshopper and so do my meat-eating friends. Grasshopper has a great selection of both savory/greasy food and healthy meals. I highly recommend the 'no name!'

Huge menu and amazing food

This place was so good! The vegi-beef love meun tastes just like the real thing but without the cruelty!!! The vegetable nori rolls were great too and so were their soups. Great place in a cute area. Their wait staff was very nice too.

Great vegan chinese food

my family has a tradition of getting Chinese food on Christmas eve every year. Luckily when I went vegan I discovered Grasshopper! We always order the 1)beef lo mein 2)the no name special 3) the chicken fingers

Those are the main three items we order every time and sometimes throw in some other options. the three listed above are must tries and always so good.

now the only thing I miss from my pre vegan days are crab rangood and egg fu yung. Maybe some day grasshopper will fulfill my dream lol

Pros: All vegan!!!! , Great flavor , Price is good

a quaint spot

Nice family owned and run Asian vegan spot, clean, nice, and delicious. The service was with a huge smile and the portions were plenty big for the price. Will visit again. Is on a strip with another vegan spot and vegan ice cream.

Mountains of Food

I've taken non-vegan friends to Grasshopper a couple three times, and we have never been disappointed. The food is carefully prepared, the service friendly and helpful, and the meals are enormous. Itis one my go-to restaurants when I'm in Boston

Pros: Quality of the food, Quantity of the food, Excellent service

Cons: Parking can be difficult during peak hours

Deliciously filling

Grasshopper is a reliable option for sizable portions of tasty Chinese food. The last time I visited, we ordered "chicken" chow foon noodles and coconut curry with tofu. Each dish had a good balance of veggies and tofu/fake meats.

They have a variety of soups and their eggplant tofu special is extremely yummy. Definitely worth a visit!

Pros: Generous portions, Tasty food with lots of veggies, Good value

Cons: Best for family style, not for single person

Welcoming

I went for the first time a few weeks ago, and I am sure to return. There are so many delicious and affordable options here. I was originally going to go to Whole Heart Provisions next door to study, but they were too crowded, so I came here. After my meal, the waitstaff was very accommodating with allowing me to stay and study for several hours after while I occasionally ordered snacks. They kept the tea flowing, too.

Pros: large portion sizes, friendly staff

Cons: a little greasy

A staple restaurant

We have been coming here for over 5 years. Hot and sour soup is the best one I've ever had. I tend to compare any other restaurant's one to this one. The No Name is the most popular dish among my friends. I don't tend to eat fried stuff but I've tried it a couple times off their plate and it's always been good. The mock meats are good but the tofu dishes use a soft tofu and are never quite satisfying, especially not the coconut tofu.
All entrees are giant and they have a buffet one Sunday every month that's worth a trip at least once.

Pros: Big servings, lots of options, Extremely quick, Reliable staple

Cons: not many healthy options
