Delicious smoothie bowl - Edit
Had the choco nutty smoothie bowl, although not very nutty and a little too liquidy, very delicious and refreshing!
Read moreA lot of variety, will probably come back to try something salty too.
Middle range of price (250P).

good place - Edit
its nice and clean place, good atmosphere, nice toilets (which is not often nice in Puertos places), food and drinks could be better, even I am thankful that we have this place. but as some mentioned in the comments, it makes a difference if the owners are vegan or vegetarian themselves or not, energywise...

GOOD BUT IT COULD BE BETTER - Edit
A wonderful place, small but cozy and very well maintained. Location on a very quiet street with ample parking in front. Lots of plants decorate it and there is a magnificent tree between the tables outside. I liked the food but wasn't thrilled by it. We ordered a Banh mi (good, but I didn't like the vinegar, which wasn't mentioned on the menu) and a hummus plate (good, but not the best I've ever had, too oil). To finish, we ordered an Acai bowl, the Choco Nutty: I was honestly disappointed with this, beautiful to look but not very tasty. The wait was a bit long, but overall it was a pleasant experience, if only for the relaxing atmosphere of the place.

Definitely needs improvement - Edit
Had the Fried Chicken and French Toast. Unfortunately the seitan was not made properly so it was more of a breaded slimy texture, plus the coating needed seasoning too. The french toast was not bad, but needed more sweetness to it.

Not going again - Edit
As a long-term resident of Puerto Princesa, I have seen local vegetarian restaurants come, go, and move.
Read moreGrains is a relative newcomer, clearly aiming to replicate the top plant-based restaurant here.
As vegans, we are not convinced that this restaurant is indeed 100% plant-based. Why? The owner also owns at least one meat-based restaurant, which is never a good sign because it implies they are only into the plant-based 'fad' for the money.
We asked the staff about certain ingredients and their answers were unconvincing.
On our last visit, we ordered two orange juices. Our "orange" juices were made with orange peel, not oranges (!) On paying, we saw 4 peeled oranges on a shelf. Any restaurant that either doesn't know how to make orange juice, or thinks it's OK to serve customers liquefied orange peel instead, is not one we will visit again.
Great parking along the road is about the only pro. Try the others (Imas, Namaskar, Ver De) instead, all owned and run by vegans and vegetarians.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience at Grains did not meet your expectations.
Read moreWe’d like to clarify that Grains is a 100% plant-based restaurant. While the owner is involved in other dining ventures, we operate Grains with strict standards to ensure all our dishes remain fully plant-based, and we carefully source our ingredients to reflect this commitment.
Regarding your concern about the orange juice, we use a juicer machine to extract juice from peeled oranges, we do not include the orange skin, as it adds bitterness. We regret if our drink did not meet the quality you aim for.
As someone born and raised here in Puerto Princesa, we take pride in supporting our local market and suppliers. This is why our prices are generally lower compared to other plant-based cafés, we integrate locally sourced ingredients into our menu. Our goal is to make plant-based food more accessible and affordable for anyone looking to transition or maintain a vegan lifestyle.
If leaving a two star review is your way of resolving the issue and supporting a local business built here in Puerto Princesa, we respectfully ask you to reconsider. We’ve treated this matter seriously, acknowledged the concern, and are taking steps to address it, not just for you, but for future guests as well. Fair and honest feedback is always welcome, but we hope it reflects the full picture, not just a single moment of frustration.

You are such a hypocrite. We love Grains. You just went there to criticize and not to enjoy. What a pity life you have. Try eating food for brains, that’s what you need not an orange juice.
Read moreWe wish your business to strives more so you don’t have do this to other vegan businesses.

Wow, real hate here for people who have bad experiences, and opinions, and leave honest 2-star reviews. I guess vegans aren't allowed to leave bad reviews because all vegan restaurants are all vegany and super duper and stuff.
Read moreNewsflash: When I receive pure blended orange peel instead of orange juice, when staff cannot answer basic questions about their ingredients, and when I see an omnivore apparently cashing in on the vegan trend, I give my business and good reviews to other restaurants.

Calling Grains a spin-off of Ver De (which honestly is just another place that puts Beyond-meats in the grill and gives the burger some fancy name for all the wannabe influencers out there) says it all, imho. I respect reviews about food quality, but your review seems to just want to spread uncertainty without any grounds.
Read moreAnd what's so bad about the ownership? Isn't it good if the owner of a vonventiaoal restaurant decides to also open up a vegan one? Or would you prefer if veganism would remain as exclusive as it is, instead of the idea being spread by new restaurants people can try out?
Cocolime
Could be the other way around. Has the meat restaurant to make money and the vegan one as a passion project. There are many vegan restaurants that didnt start out that way. And let's hope vegan isnt a 'fad'.

Really lovely Café - Edit
We came here for Brunch and were not disappointed! We got the Big Breakfast which had scrambled tofu and Baked Beans which is sometimes difficult to find on a menu in the Philippines we've found. They use Soya or Oat milk as standard for their coffees. Coffee and food came out quickly even though they were a little busy. It's a small Café with outside and inside seating. They also had a variety of muffins available. We got the Chocolate muffin heated up and it was very tasty! The staff were really friendly. Service water was constantly topped up. Everything was really reasonably priced for the area. Would definitely recommend!
