Great spot for fresh local produce, lots of vegan brands

Small town style grocery store with local produce, familiar vegan brands, & some in house vegan options. Love the bulk section, and fresh made peanut butter! Also has some cold vegan salads, grape leaves (packaged), and selection of hummus. Vegan shampoo, soaps, and vitamins/supplements avail.

Pros: Small town feel, Vegan brands, Local products

Cons: A bit pricey, Produce can be hit or miss

Good vegan options!

Small, cute market with lots of good vegan options. There isn't much vegan food in this area, so I was really glad to find this place. I grabbed some prepackaged sesame noodles kale salad, and a muffin for breakfast the next day. The food was really tasty and they had a number of vegan options to choose from. If I'm ever here again, I won't bother going anywhere else, I'll just come here.

Pros: Vegan options, Nice selection of products, Easy parking

Cons: A little expensive

Life saver

I always stop in when I'm visiting "up north" since I know I can find food to eat. Grocery store's portion vegan packaged food and organic produce are a lifesaver in a world full of non-vegan food.

The hot bar is not that accomodating. I was in last week. Nothing vegan in the hot selections, salad bar can be found anywhere else. Packaged cold sandwiches are always out of vegan. I asked the guy behind the counter if they had more vegan cold sandwiches in back. I was told NO and that they always seem to run out of vegan selections pretty quickly. Yet he had no idea why they don't make more or have more varieties.

Pros: Vegan food in a sea of non-vegan food, Lots of local food producers

Cons: Never seem to have vegan hot/cold prepared foods

comforts away from home

When on a family vacation for an extended period of time, and being the only vegan in the bunch, it's great to have a store like this for vegan staples to add to the mix of family dinners. The prices were more than I am used to paying back home, however it was expected, being in a smaller resort town.

Nice selection of wines and beers that were on special, the produce was tasty, parking was convenient. There were some interesting Michigan made products that I had never seen before.

I was blown away by this gem in Petoskey, MI. How sad, I was unaware of it, while living in MI, albeit Grand Rapids. Sure, the store itself is well-stocked, clean and FULL of local, organic groceries, but the best part?! The tasty yummy-ness that is the hot bar and salad bar. For my money and tastebuds, I could dine here each and every day! I licked my plate clean. When people whine about being a vegan and the lack of variety of flavor, I know they haven't had their senses awakened with spicy, aromatic foods, which is the fare prepared with love at The Grain Train.

Pros: Great vegan fare , helpful, friendly and courteous staff, great variety

Cons: NOT located in my hometown, wish they had a better, off-street patio

Pretty awesome!

I tried most of the vegan soups which are available hot in the back deli always. The bread is usually vegan that comes with them, just ask someone and they'll point you to the loaf on the shelf it came from and you can check. Don't miss out on the Vegan low fat brownies made with applesauce and bananas. There's also a vegan chocolate cake and rice crispy treat. The highlight is the vegan eggless salad sandwich on pumpernickel bread. The tofu strips in the cold salad area area really great, too. The deli makes sandwiches, but I never managed to get there on time to try one. I believe they are open 11-2
