Latokartanontie 11, Helsinki, Finland, 00700

Restaurant of the Hare Krishna movement re-opened 2014 in an old mansion. Offers Indian (Bengal) influenced lacto-vegetarian dishes. On Tuesdays and Thursdays lunch is completely vegan and typically includes a soup, rice with subji (veg curry), salad or raita and puri, samosa or some other deep fried Indian dish possibly with chutney. Sweets can be bought separately. Icecream and fudge made in-house. Indian sweets such has laddoo and burfi are often available, as well as coffee, tea and soft drinks. Also has a Sunday feast which consists of a large variety of dishes served at the end of a temple program. The Sunday feast starts at 4pm every Sunday, is free of charge (donations accepted) and welcomes everyone independent of religious orientation. Open Tue-Fri 11:00am-3:00pm, Sat 12:00pm-4:00pm.

A higher taste - Edit

After a long wait The Hare Krishna movement in Helsinki has again opened at a new location in Malmi. Their cooking has always been very special and full of a "higher" taste. It is based on Indian tradition, ayurveda and devotion. They use milk but no eggs or other animal based products. Also, they refrain from any mind altering substances, so you won't get coffee or black tea there, not to mention alcohol. Even onions, mushroom, cocoa and some other ingrediants are avoided due to this.

After opening their restaurant for public Summer 2014 there were closed again for a couple of weeks due to lack of staff, but next week they will be up and running again at least Wednesdays and Saturdays.

I recommend visiting and tasting their cooking, regardless of religious orientation.

Pros: a higher taste, near Malmi train station, reasonable price

Cons: sometimes uncertain if open, not vegan
