Best meal in Japan

Tied for my best meal in Japan. This tiny little place was a vegan flavor dream! Popped in for lunch thanks to Happy Cow and so glad I did. The vegan lunch set was extraordinarily good for 1000 yen. Even if you aren't vegan get it!

Pros: YUM!!!!, So inexpensive yet so so good

Found a Diamond

Was looking out for a Vegeterian Dinner place with my Parents n Kids. Found this place by chance.
My parents prefer Indian Pure Vegeterian Food . Was Very skeptical as the choices at Gorey were more Italian and not at all Indian.

Seeing Mr Gorey immersed in Cooking, I could feel the Love he has for Cooking. His Super Fun n Caring demeneur assured me of a Good Result.

The result was Unexpectedly Amazing. My Parents loved the Food. My wife and kid Loved the Food specially the Pasta and I loved it too.

Three Cheers for Mr Gorey

Pros: Mr Gorey, Amazing Fresh Preparation , Cosy n Homely Ambience

Cons: It's in Kyoto, Should have one in Mumbai , Need far my Tummy Space to accommodate more

3.5* Nice place, but came expecting more

After reading the reviews of this place, I went out of my way to check it out. It has a nice little cafe vibe and the owner was friendly. The food was fine; it was good pasta, but not on the level of the other reviews, IMO.

Cons: wifi didn't work (maybe just that day?)

Vegan and Delicious on Imadegawa-dori

For those who are mourning the closing of Tosca restaurant on Imadegawa-dori, here is a casual vegan restaurant and bar, with some music or dance nights and a welcoming ambiance. Open from 11 AM to 11 PM, (except Mondays) just a few blocks from Ginkakuji and the north end of the Philosopher’s Path, the Gorey Cafe serves generous portions of vegetarian pasta and curry, at an amazingly reasonable price. There’s a full bar, coffee or tea, some seasonal appetizers too, and each main dish comes with a small salad. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly; the food is super fresh and expertly prepared. There is an English menu. There’s a good choice of pasta dishes— we had soy milk with veggies pastas and coriander green pasta . Both were delicious. Other selections included seaweed pasta , Japanese style, tomato - veg and avocado, and you can super size them for a few hundred yen more. Drinks also very reasonably priced.

Pros: Vegan, Fresh , Generous servings

Cons: Only two main courses: pasta or curry

Super inexpensive vegan food that is full of flavor

I walked by this place after visiting Ginkakuji and decided to try it. I got the tomato and vegetable pasta and it came with a daikon salad.

The portion was big and apparently you can increase it at no extra charge, which I did not know.

The menu says they use vegetables grown in the Ohara region of Kyoto wherever possible.

The pasta dish just used regular seminola pasta noodles, so I was not sure how healthy it was, but it tasted great! The vegetables were cooked to perfection.

I do not really like daikon that much because it seems like a boring vegetable to me, but this was great! Although it was called a salad, I would have thought it was pickles. It was cut into cubes that were marinated with some sort of spice; I think oregano. It was crunchy, tangy, and far from boring.

I only paid 700 yen. This was flat out the cheapest meal I had in Kyoto. If I lived here I am sure I would eat here all the time. I recommend this place to students, backpackers or anyone on a budget.

Pros: Tasty food, Portions are not small, Super inexpensive

Cons: Maybe not the healthiest

Wow - great vegan pasta

Really tasty pasta dishes made to order. Very inexpensive too, if you are hungry they will increase the portion - at no cost! Wish I had known about this place earlier in my trip. Small place with a bright atmosphere.
