Variety

March 2020
A very eclectic menu with many dishes that are not usually represented in veg Chinese eateries around Melbourne.

The hot and spicy potato noodle soup with peanuts is unusual in that it is served cold, but it's full of flavour and a good contrast to milder dishes. The pumpkin soup was somewhat underwhelming. The hedgehog mushroom dish was a bit of a revelation; the mushrooms have a fibrous texture which would lend itself to being used in so many dishes. The vegetable meet balls were also very good. The vegie fried rice was pretty standard.

Over all, I was quite impressed with the standard of the dishes and would like to return to sample more of the menu.

Pros: Many choices

Cons: On the pricey side

Overall well prepared dishes

The Imperial lightly fried taro, ginkgo seeds, asparagus and carrots were my least favourite dish. The taste was quite bland with a slightly overpowering bitterness, the dish also seems quite simple to make and not worth the $18.80 charged. A little disappointing, despite being a chef special.
However, the two other dishes tasted much better and made up for the first one. Both the salt and pepper termitomyces fungi and the stir-fried sliced spicy vegetarian pork with mushroom & cabbage complimented each other very well. The sauce from the stir-fry helped to balance the salty, slightly spicy and crispy fried mushrooms to enhance the overall flavour of the meal. Recommend those two dishes to compliment.
The stir-fry is quite oily and the fungi is also pretty salty so not the healthiest options.
Pricing varies from reasonably priced to fairly expensive for the main dishes and appetisers.
Good if you’re looking for something with a lot of flavour and taste.
They have some desserts as well, like pan-fried red bean paste pancakes which were not bad.

Many menu options

The 3rd floor restaurant is fully vegan. There are many choices and reasonably priced. The food I tried tasted good, but the food was a bit greasy, salty, and sugary for me. It is plant-based but not particularly healthy.

Pros: Large menus, Central location

Cons: Fried salty sugary
