Many different cuisines - Edit
I decided I wanted to noodles for lunch so came here. I ordered their Laksa and duck rolls. The duck rolls had a minimal amount of sauce inside of them. I wish they had sauce on the side for dipping. Would have made them way better. The laksa was delicious. #Veganuary

Vegan laksa blew my head off - Edit
Vegan laksa just tastes like nothing else (combination laksa). Make sure you get it! We got takeaway and only con was the amount of plastic—i get that it's good to separate broth from mains for freshness but it doubles the plastic containers, which is a shame. Then multiple bags (albeit biopak) for the toppings. I also got the spicy tofu soup—broth was flavoursome on its own but it pales in comparison to combination laksa.

Just incredible - Edit
My partner and I went here after the Vegan Camp Out on our final night in Sydney and my god the food was amazing. It seems we lucked out with table availability as it was so busy so maybe worth phoning ahead or making a booking.
Read moreI had the summer rolls for an entree and the veggies and tofu pho for main, which was incredible and great flavour. Very good portion size too. Plenty of gluten free options too for celiacs and gluten intolerant people
Then I had lychee ice cream for dessert which was delicious too plus cherry soda which really hit the spot during the spicy pho.
The atmosphere was really welcoming and coming from Perth it was so refreshing seeing so many fully vegan places. 11/10 for this place.
Pros: Gluten free options, Good portion sizes, Fully vegan
Cons: Not really a con but it's busy so book ahead

Food was good with lots of options. Starters were the real standouts. Pho didn’t blow me away. Service was a little lacking.

Diverse menu of classics and rarer fare - Edit
There's a lot to like about Golden Lotus, but my favorite thing is that you can get everything from standard Vietnamese and pan-Asian dishes (e.g., Pho, Stir Fried Tofu With Chilli Basil Leaves) to those you almost never see on a vegan restaurant menu (e.g., Vietnamese Sugar Cane V Shrimp, Fried Fish With Lemongrass) -- and it's all great!

This place is the absolute best especially the Laksa I order it once a fortnight it’s that amazing. If you’re in Sydney and just stopping by this is the one to go to.

Pho sure the best vegan pho - Edit
I order from Golden Lotus religiously every week. Pho has always been a comfort food for me and they have all the right parts to what make a good pho. The broth, noodles, vegetables, pork belly and chicken strips are a must have! I also love that they add chilli in it and they’re generous with the bean sprouts. I usually also treat myself to a few entrees that are my favourite - the satay sticks, duck pancakes and mushroom fritters.

Delicious!! - Edit
Absolutely loved this place. Had the lemongrass chicken and plum duck, finished with a deep fried soy ice cream. Not sure what’s with all the negative reviews, maybe this place is a bit random but I’d say this is one of the best places I’ve eaten in Sydney!

Will do in a pinch - Edit
Went here for a second time as nothing else was open. As the first time, it was a little underwhelming.
Read moreHad the spring rolls (which unusually didn't come with fresh lettuce, but perhaps that was because of the late hour), and eggplant fritters which had a very nice light crispy batter, but incredibly oily.
For the main, had the stirfry rice noodle with combo soy meat and veggies. The noodles were quite lukewarm until you got to the centre noodles which were nicely hot. The sauce was light and delicious. There was WAY too much fake duck, which is not normally in this type of dish, and I don't enjoy fake duck as much as other fake meats. There were about 2 pieces of tofu, I would have preferred just tofu and veggies.
I never understood why it's so much more popular than other nearby vegan Vietnamese restaurants, but I'm glad it's around.
Pros: open later than other restaurants

Never a disappointment, they have so many great options and really reasonable prices, right in the heart of Newtown. What more could you want!

Amazing Food - Edit
Amazing Vegan food. However, Let down by service. Order off App - no physical menu. Bill came before one of us had finished. After we paid my friend was still finishing her drink & they told us we needed to go. My friend said I’m just finishing the drink - they came back a few minutes later & we were rushed out the door.

Disappointed - Edit
Here's a vegan Vietnamese restaurant, which is one of the many restaurants along the "Vegan Mile" of Newtown. They have a diversity of dishes featuring mock meats and tofu. Rice needs to be ordered extra.
Read moreTo me, food looked boring and unlovingly prepared. Tastewise, dishes were either too salty or too dry for me. One dish, we couldn't even finish... Portions are also not very big, so eating here became pretty expensive. We were three people and were still hungry after 3 dishes and an appetizer, so we ordered a fourth main dish.
You order via an app, with minimal interaction with staff. Service was cold and rushed.
The restaurant is quite popular and it was always full, when we passed by it. If you get a table, be aware that the space may be stuffy and crowded.
Cons: taste should be better, gets expensive quickly, crowded yet cold atmosphere

So much to choose from! - Edit
We tried going to Golden Lotus on our first night in Sydney, but it was too busy, and we were too hungry to wait, so we actually had to go back the following evening. Luckily we could get in immediately. The menu is huge! We took quite a long time hesitating, but we finally ordered the Vietnamese Sugar Cane Shrimp, Large Fried Rice, Stir Fried Tofu and Vegetables with Satay Sauce + extra vegan meat, and Combination Laksa. I wasn't too big of a fan of the sugar cane shrimp, but everything else was phenomenal, the satay sauce tofu and veggies being my favorite. No wonder it's so popular!!

We had the spring rolls, salt and chilli chicken, seeet and sour tofu and duck pancakes! The chicken and duck pancakes were so tasty but wouldn’t order the sweet and sour again as it was quite tasteless. Great service and BYO 😌

Cool - Edit
We ordered a vegie tofu soup and vegie tofu stir fry with cashews. The soup, which arrived some 10-15 minutes before my friend’s dish, was not even lukewarm. When my friend’s stir fry arrived, she requested they reheat my soup. By this stage she realised her ‘stir fry’ was also cold. My soup was returned to the table only marginally less lukewarm than before.
Read moreWe also attempted to have dessert, but by the time we managed to get the attention of a waiter to request the menu, then waited another 20 minutes with no one returning to our table, we gave up and left.

This proven to be an excellent plant based Vietnamese culinary experience. We had the mixed appetiser platter for starters, and the roast duck with plum sauce, fried fish with salt and chilli, and the stir fry noodles for mains. We had rice too. All tasted amazing. The plant based “duck” really tasted like what I remembered real duck to be, many years ago.

Golden Lotus has one of the biggest menus I’ve ever seen. If you love Asian, Vietnamese food, you will absolutely love this place! There are tons of fake meat options to choose from, including duck! Also, a personal highlight was the Vietnamese iced coffee. Absolutely incredible!

I have eaten here a couple of times now and they never disappoint. Their food is absolutely amazing and great value for money. Our new favourite dish is the roasted “chicken” in a “honey” sauce; if I could eat this everyday I would. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Delicious and uplifting - Edit
On my first visit here yesterday, I was initially impressed by the variety of dishes on the menu. You need to view the menu on your phone, so take a pen and paper to note down what you want as you scroll through it.
Read moreAlthough my two sons and I arrived at 6pm, the restaurant was already packed full, and we had to wait outside for about 10 minutes. But it was worth the wait. Inside it was very noisy from all of the animated conversations - but this added to, rather than detracting from, the ambience, and I was actually delighted to see so many people obviously enjoying vegan food. Seating included benches along the two side walls, and this allowed for some casual comments with neighbouring strangers without too much awkwardness.
Everything we ordered was delicious - Saigon Taro Rolls, Vegan Chicken With Lemongrass, Pho (with vegan chicken), Saigonese Broken Rice, Banana Rolls with Coconut Cream & Ice Cream and Taro Sticky Rice and Mango (with mango substituted with lychees). Despite being crazily busy, we didn't need to wait long for our food, all of which was beautifully presented and filling.
I'm looking forward to visiting again some time!
