Tasty! - Edit
This place is well priced and very delicious. Lemongrass 'chicken' and tom yum noodle soup were both amazing! Would definitely go back here and recommend it to others.
Pros: tasty, well priced, great menu options
Cons: busy, not a lot of space

Must try to pho and the desserts! - Edit
The vegan pho is great, and so are stirfrys. The portions here can be quite large! So a few entrees and sharing one main would be enough for two people (plus a dessert!).
Pros: Friendly staff, Lots of menu choice, Vegan pho!!
Cons: Can get busy / crowded

Yum!! - Edit
This place has the best food! I especially love the vegan "fish" clay pot and the satay "chicken" skewers. Getting noticed by wait staff can be a little tricky but that's because they're always so packed, so I don't blame them. Good well priced tasty vegan food :)
Pros: Tasty, Good portions, Quality meals
Cons: Busy, Can wait a little while for your food

The Mock Duck is AMAZING - Edit
I've been here a couple of times now and the food is to die for! When I first went for my birthday we were placed underneath the cute 'Veganism is Magic' sign and ate an amazing meal of vegan ducks, seafood and laksa. They're always very lovely there but they do get quite busy. One time when I went when they were busy I had to ask for menus after 5 mins of being seated. I recommend making a booking for sure!
Pros: Inespensive prices for delicious food
Cons: can get busy so book in advance to enjoy self

Insanely delicious - Edit
I spent approximately 20 minutes browsing Golden Lotus' menu before I finally made my choice, there was just soooo much I wanted to try. The menu is vast, tasty and authentic. The portions are very generous, so much so I couldn't even eat it all!
I would reccommend booking a table though, it gets quite crowded and loud at the front and it was hard to hold a conversation so we ended up eating fast and leaving.
Pros: Extremely fresh , affordable
Cons: Seating a bit crowded , Orders take a while to come

100% vegan and very delicious. A great selection and friendly staff. The menu also shows which items are gluten free and soy free. Definite strong recommendation!

Addicted to their soups - Edit
I love this place. We come here regularly and whilst I really like all their dishes I have a hard time going past their soups. I love them all - so tasty!

clean, fast, fresh - Edit
Great food for the prices and also venue. Doesn't have the greasy feel some mock-meat Asian restaurants tend to have. Has beautiful, expansive menu and a nice fitout. Had the satay chickn skewers and tofu/veg pho. Both were great and came within minutes of ordering. Somewhere I'd be happy to take omnis too !
Pros: speed, price, location
Cons: too many options to try

Try the eggplant fritters - Edit
There is a lot of faux meat to cover a lot of items like Peking duck, fish etc. I enjoyed the eggplant fritters the most :)

Nice little restaurant - Edit
Came here with some non-vegan friends, and we were all impressed by the range - stir-fries, noodles, rice, skewers, spring-rolls... as wide a range as you'd find in most non-vegan Chinese restaurants. While the place is a bit small, the food is great; would definitely recommend it.

Look forward to trying more - Edit
We had a light dinner of spring rolls, steamed veg dumplings and the eggplant fritters. The first two were excellent! The eggplant had too much batter for my liking. Look forward to trying more of their menu.

Vietnamese in Newtown? This is the place. - Edit
IMO this is overall currently the best vegan Viet/Asian food in Newtown, and possibly in Sydney. There's nothing novel like you might find at Bodhi or Nourishing Quarter but the food is yum. The beef rendang was the hit of the night for me. And I always thought all fried ice-creams are the same - but they're not - this one had a crunch that left me begging for more.
The place is clean, the service attentive, the toilet (like so many Newtown places) has you leave the comfort of the dining room through a narrow path past all the workings onto the back alley, and the prices are fair.
Pros: All vegan

Disappointed - Edit
I was looking for something beyond the usual Asian vegan fare of gluten and tofu, given the preponderance of very positive reviews. However,it was nothing special and just your usual run of the mill Asian vegan. We tried a variety of dishes and even the fried rice was below par.
Pros: vegan, friendly enough staff
Cons: Nothing special

Average first impression - Edit
I was looking forward to trying this new vegan Vietnamese restaurant in Newtown and we headed there as soon as we got to Sydney. The decor is warm and pleasant, mint green trimmed with red. The staff were friendly and attentive. We only tried two dishes from the menu but both were unimpressive. The first, the (vegan) fried fish with salt and chilli was just disappointing: the 'fish' was dry, like little pieces of toast, and, while the flavour was fine, the dish lacked anything to give it moistness. The other fish we ordered, stir-fried tofu and vegetables with cashew nut was just average: fine but nothing you wouldn't see in other Vietnamese restaurants. I emphasise that we only tried two dishes and I'd like to go back and try others, but the first impression was lacklustre.
Pros: Decent-sized menu, Pleasant interior, Friendly staff
Cons: Fried fish dish lacks moistness

Amazing - Edit
Great service and excellent food. We had the combination apertiser plate which had 4 different items on it (2 of each). The satay skewers were amazing. For the main courses we had the "chick'n' satay and "abalone" stir fry, both fantastic and very generous serves. Very reasonable prices, I would highly recommend going here and am looking forward to going back.
Pros: Excellent food, Friendly staff, Good value
Cons: At a stretch, choice of background music

Phenomenal food and service, great new addition - Edit
A group of 5 of us tried Golden Lotus on Saturday night when we couldn't get into Lentil as Anything. What a find!
Only my husband and I are veg, the rest of our group eat meat and they were singing the praises of the food that we tried, even those who swore they didn't want to eat any fake meat.
We ordered the satay chicken skewers, chicken nuggets and mushroom fritters for appetisers - all really tasty! For mains we had Coconut chicken curry (amazing sauce), Lemongrass fish (so fragrant), Stir fry veg and rice noodles (great subtle flavour and fresh veg), Broken Rice (amazing variety of things came with this dish, was a little bit dry but I should have just used more sauce) and the Salt and Chilli Mushrooms. Can I just say, these mushrooms changed my life. I have dreamt about them every night since. Out of this world. Just order them, don't hesitate, they aren't spicy but so, so tasty.
The staff were so sweet and even offered us oranges when we were too full for dessert. They took our orders on ipads, gave us bottles of table water with mint and oranges in it and the food came out super fast. We were so lucky to have gotten a table in the back section as we got there pretty early, this place is already proving popular! I would definitely suggest booking before you go.
At one point, I even said to our group that this was one of the best nights of my life (as I was eating the mushrooms I'm sure). All up, great food and service, we will be back as regularly as possible!
Pros: Food is off the charts + variety!, Service with a smile, Well priced dishes
Cons: You should book, we were just lucky!

A new gem in Newtown - Edit
This lovely place is a great addition to the Newtown scene. We ate the satay skewers, eggplant fritters, pho soup and spicy tofu and veggies noodle soup. Everything was so delicious but the tofu and veggies noodle soup was the highlight for us. It's one of the best soups I've ever eaten. Also big serving sizes. Decor looks quite funky and staff are friendly. Good value. I can't wait to return!
Pros: Fantastic food, Excellent service, Great value
Cons: Can't think of anything
