Serves meat, vegan options available. Indian restaurant with a range of dishes. Vegan items include veg pakora, veg samosas, aloo palak and chana masala. Open Tue-Sun 12:00pm-3:00pm, 5:00pm-9:30pm.
Closed Mon.
I ordered the Aloo Palak and Dal Makhani based on the other vegan-authored HappyCow reviews, without asking about if it is vegan, and both tasted extremely buttery.
These dishes should be considered "vegan upon request" rather than vegan.
Veg biryani, Aloo palak and Dahl tadka were all tasty. Good quality ingredients and not oily. Bummer that they don't have breads (Roti, naan, etc). I'm vegetarian, so not sure if it would be ideal for strict vegans
No marked vegan options on the current menu - Edit
Their current menu doesn't mention vegan at all so you can't be sure what can be offered vegan and you have to trust all the staff has the necessary know-how. So the food may be good but it's a gamble. According to staff, two main dishes can be modified to be vegan.
Yes, these items are vegan. Aloo Palak was fantastic (spinach and potatoes over rice) and Chana Masala also good (chickpea/tomato curry). Ordered mild to accommodate travel partner and it really was mild. Still super flavorful though, which is not always the case. Small indoor eating area as well as small outdoor seating, but can get take out. Ours took 25 min. Would imagine the other veggie item is also vegan, but didn't try/check. Samosas would be vegan if not fried in same oil as meat ones. Some might be fine with this though. Wengen is only a 12 min. regular train ride up from Lauterbrunnen.
We had the pleasure of eating outside at Golden India on a beautiful evening in Wengen. The Samosas and Dal Makhni were both delicious, and they had several other vegan/vegetarian options as well. The staff was knowledgeable and welcoming. They were closed on Monday, so we were glad to be able to eat here before our Wednesday departure.
There were quite a few options for vegans and vegetarians. We ordered the Aloo Palak and Channa Masala. They were both so delicious! Really authentic Indian. I think the number of Indian customers coming in is testament to their amazing food. The dishes come with rice and the lovely staff are happy to bring you more. It is a small and cosy restaurant with the kitchen visible so you can watch the chef at work. Outdoor seating is available too. My only regret is discovering this place on our last night.
