Gnomaste Gnome Cafe!

Just a super oasis for plant based diet. Four of us ordered different items and sampled the choices. We departed with full stomachs and treats to go for a return trip to Atlanta consisting of turmeric almond lemon date balls and peanut butter cookies. Oh my…heavenly!

Pros: Vegan safe

Cons: none…you spoiled us…

My Favorite Cafe

I'm from upstate South Carolina but my family lives in Charleston and my brother goes to the Citadel so I'm in Charleston about 3-4 times a year. Every single time I come I go to this cafe. It's my absolute favorite and it's amazing. All the food is fantastic and the breakfast is so so delightful.

Pros: food, cute interior and exterior, coffee

Cons: hard to find

a gem

We were happy to find this dedicated vegan restaurant near Folly. My husband is a tempeh reuben connoisseur and he was happy. Delicious pumpkin spice latte. I got the cinnamon pancakes with “bacon”. Love this place!

Cons: limited parking and seating

No place like Gnome

Deliciously tasty, affordable comfort food. 100% vegan, innovative dishes. Very friendly knowledgeable and helpful personnel. Clean unisex bathroom. Street parking available. Serves breakfast, lunch, brunch. Closes 3pm, so plan accordingly. Dined there with non-vegans, who thoroughly enjoyed the food, especially the burger, fries, mac & cheese, and onion rings. My personal favorites: creamy mac & cheese, even good cold since I got an order for the hour and a half drive back to Myrtle Beach, and ate it on the beach; tempeh rueben - very well seasoned; and the cheese grits - because good creamy grits are to be treasured, vegan ones even more so.
I was wearing a vegan T-shirt (getting the message out), and restaurant patrons were quite friendly, wanting to talk about veganism and happy to share other nearby places for us to try when told we were from out of state. There's also a list of local vegan and vegan friendly places on the bulletin board near the bathroom.

Pros: 100% vegan comfort food, affordable prices, helpful, knowledgeable, friendly personnel

Cons: Closes at 3pm.

No Place Like Gnome

I enjoy the food and the atmosphere. The owners are always friendly. I'm glad for an all vegan restaurant and hope others follow suit. My favourite items so far are the cinnamon roll (made fresh daily), mac 'n cheese, "chicken" salad and the portobello bacon bagel sandwich. Be prepared to fork out some cash!

Pros: Friendly staff, Delicious baked goods

Cons: Downtown parking, Nearly constant construction

Good food

We had one meal from Gnome on a visit to Charleston. The online ordering was nice and went smoothly. Food was ready when we arrived. Fried chicken sandwich, reuben, and mac and cheese were all pretty solid. Wish we had time to get breakfast as well because the breakfast menu looked great.

Pros: good food, online ordering

Cons: limited menu

good food

We were in town for a night and went destination dining at Gnome Cafe. The young lady at the register was not very informed and didn't ask us if we wanted water or bring us silverware. The owner however left the kitchen to come talk to us (we had questions about the menu due to dietary restrictions). She was very pleasant and accommodating.
The salads were a generous portion and quite delicious!!
We inquired the owner about her deserts, which are made in house (wanting a raw, gluten free desert) and she told us about another place we could try in town that may have what we were looking for!
We will definitely return to Gnome on future visits to Charleston.

Pros: food, the owner

Cons: staff working the register , construction outside

fresh and modern

Great breakfast burrito with portobello bacon, good strong coffee. This little place has got it goin' on, busy and efficient. Our order came quickly, service friendly and down to earth. Dont let the road construction in the area stop you from reaching this destination. Menu limited, but something to please every vegan. Will definitely go back as we visit Charleston often.

Pros: fresh ingredients, pleasant service.

Cons: a little tricky to get to due to road closings

Perfect.

I was on a house hunting trip with my mom and stopped by the gnome cafe for some vegan breakfast and dear lord it is delicious. We ended up coming every day we were in town. I love the grits bowl, the biscuit sandwich and the bagel sandwich. Also, their iced coffee is delicious and they give you free refills which is awesome. The food tasted really fresh and high quality, it totally merits the price. The staff is very kind and the cafe itself is adorable. I absolutely love this place and can't wait to move to Charleston so I can eat here on a regular basis.

Pros: Delicious, Friendly, 100% Vegan

Cons: Limited Parking, Only One Location

Great eats!

Stopped here and loved this little place. Loved the decor and struggled to pick just one item off the menu as I always do at an all vegan spot. Felt they were a little over priced though, and felt that my friend seitan was a little over cooked as the edges were really hard. Tip- don't pay a dollar more for them to "buffalo" it because they give you a little squirt of Frank's and you can save the buck and put as much as you want on with the Frank's they have out. Also thought it was kind of ridiculous that a tiny cup of Mac and cheese was $4 and on the menu a bagel was $2.50 and to add cream cheese it was another $2. Definitely recommend but like I said thought the pricing was a little off.

Pros: Cute inside, Outdoor seating, Yummy for non vegans too

Cons: Over priced for small sides

First Vegan Breakfast at a Restaurant

I was pretty nervous to order breakfast at a vegan restaurant. Normally I only make it to them around lunch and dinner time, but never breakfast. This dish was so good! If you don't like too much cinnamon don't worry because I don't either and the cinnamon pancakes were still bomb. The service was great and all the people were so nice! Great atmosphere to eat at and their take out service was fantastic too! I loved that they had a fridge stocked with sandwiches and little meals to take on the go. I have never seen that at a vegan restaurant before. Overall great experience and I will definitely go back when I visit again!

Pros: the food was brought out very fast after we ordere, stocked fridge with pre-made sandwiches and snacks

Complex and varied all-vegan menu & great coffee

It was awesome to have so many interesting dishes to choose from. The decor is cute and clean. The coffee is fabulous. I had the cinnamon pancakes, which were perfectly crispy on the outside with no need for syrup. My boyfriend had the portobello BLT, which was even better than the pancakes -- perfectly crispy bread and just the right amount of vegan mayo. I'm only in town for 5 more days and I'll for sure be back.

Pros: big varied all-vegan menu, great coffee, fabulous music on the PA :)

Cons: could use more seating

A special place!

I'm so pleased that Charleston finally has such a scrumptious vegan restaurant! We go to Gmome whenever we're in town. Yesterday I had the grit bowl with portobello "bacon," kale lemonade, and gluten free banana bread. Heaven!

Must Visit

I wish that I didn't wait until my last day, on my way to the airport, to try Gnome Cafe! Their food was amazingly delicious! They're a bit disconnected from downtown, but their space is great and the food is all delicious and reasonably priced. Limited seating and can be busy.

Pros: Great food, Friendly and sociable staff

Cons: Limited Seating, Disconnected

That Burger Tho :)

This is an amazing addition to the Charleston vegan food community. It is a wonderful venue, laden in light and smiles. The food is superb. I have already been there 6-7 times and will be there many more times. Thank the Universe for Gnome. That veggie burger tho!

Though it is a little crowded at times (which is a good sign, right? It means the food is good!), the staff is accommodating and friendly. Whenever friends or family come into town, Gnome is our first stop. The food is a great way to please all eaters!

Definitely try the Southern Fried sandwich and the Hemp Sausage biscuit (and ALWAYS the dessert of the day). If you need something quick, grab a pre-made chicken-less salad wrap from the fridge. Gnome has something for any craving!

Definitely call ahead if possible to make the experience seamless.

Good food but really crowded and loud”

Since vegan restaurants are few and far between in Charleston, we really wanted to try this place for dinner but they weren't open so we decided to give them a try for breakfast. The place is really small and very crowded and loud (no acoustic treatment). It is basically a fast food place. I ordered the cheese-scallion hemp sausage biscuit with pepper jelly and my husband ordered the breakfast burritos. Both were not bad. He had a coffee with almond milk - yuck! And I had the earl grey with Hemp Milk - yuck! Pretty overpriced for what it is. There was no customer service at all.

Pros: vegan

Cons: crowded, noisy, loud

Delicious Comfort Food

We were passing through town and really glad we stopped here. Food is delicious (seitan sandwich, grit bowl, biscuits, onion rings, fries). Ambiance is modern chic. There's a bunch of seating but it was busy. Thankfully you place your order at the counter and by the time our food was ready, there were open chairs. If you're into great vegan comfort food, don't miss this place.

Pros: Delicious , Atmosphere

Cons: limited parking, limited seating, not open for dinner

100% vegan, 100% delicious

This place is a bustling cafe with so many options. Breakfast is served all day. They have coffee and pastries too. All are of course vegan! They are usually open for only breakfast and lunch so you should come early. I came here on vacation and didn't know the regular hours. Be prepared to pay about $12 for a salad and $10 for a burger.
