My Favorite Vegan Place to Eat in Charleston - Edit
My husband and I went back again yesterday, and we had another wonderful meal. We visit Gnome every time we're in Charleston, and it never disappoints. We shared the Bulgogi Bowl and the the Pad Thai Salad. It's hard to say which one is better. They had some yummy looking smoothies as well--thinking about trying one if we have time to get there again.

Great options - Edit
Very delicious options. The “taco” salad was delicious, so were the Brussels sprouts. During another visit, I tried the mushroom BLT. It lacked flavor. But once I added some Dijon mustard, it was fabulous. The greensicle smoothie was yummy and refreshing. Oh, and the latte with oat milk was fabulous! Great place to eat!

Amazing Food! So many choices! - Edit
I got a “chicken” sandwich, Mac and cheese, and cheesy grits and it was OUT of this world! This is a must do for vegans in Charleston! I also got a piece of pumpkin pie because how could you not?

This place was so, so delicious. I got a breakfast biscuit with a bean-based sausage and it was the bomb. Their fries were really yummy, too!

About time Charleston - Edit
I absolutely love this place....Charleston is my home but I moved away about 15yrs ago and this this place opens up. Love it!!! Every time I visit or my friends from nyc come down with me we always have to stop in for some amazing food. Lots of options and so far everything that I’ve had has been excellent. I usually dine in as well as food to go since I never know when I’ll be back. 5 stars all the way

Wonderful! - Edit
In a town with very limited vegan dining options, the Gnome was like an oasis in the desert! It's small with only a few tables inside and out, but it's worth the wait if you have the time. I tried the homemade veggie burger and onions rings. Hello?!? Onion rings! When is the last time you were able to order vegan onion rings?!? So good! I was told the burger was bean, beet and tofu based and it was topped with cheddar cheez, lettuce, tomato, onions and 'comeback sauce', which was kind of like a Cajun remoulade unique to Charleston I think. All of that plus the tangy pickles that came on the side and the soft baked bun made for a perfect bite. My non-Vegan husband got the cinnamon pancakes with home fries and portabella bacon and a cup of the soup of the day(black bean and kale)and he loved it all. The service was also excellent. So friendly, attentive and helpful, even giving me suggestions of other places in town I should try. I'm a visitor to Charleston, but I will be back to the Gnome before this trip is over.

Delicious - Edit
My husband and I (both vegan) went with another couple (both carnivores). We ordered different items from the lunch menu and everyone was happy. The rosemary/potato scone was heavenly. As a vegan, it was so great to have multiple options. Can’t wait to come back and try their breakfast offerings!

The funky little joint is my favorite place for brunch in the Holy City, Charleston. The food is delicious, and the delicious Stumptown coffee is a perfect accompaniment for any meal. Well worth searching for a place to park.

Horrible Experience - Edit
While visiting Charleston we decided to try Gnome based on the reviews. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience and highly disappointed. This restaurant should call themselves a raw restaurant since that was what a majority of the choices where. I could have moved past the raw food for myself except... We ordered a veggie burger for my son where I specifically asked the cashier was the cheese or anything in the burger have cashews or tree by nuts. She paused and said, “No, the only nuts we have are the ones put in salads!” I then stated are you sure, my son has a server cashew allergy. She again states there are no cashews in the burger or cheese. So we proceed to order the burger! Well almost immediately after my son bit the burger he tells me the burger is spicy, then a few minutes later he tells me his mouth is burning. We immediately called for a Lyft and got him back to the hotel try to determine if we were going to have to go to the emergency room. To sum it all up, he had an allergic reaction to the burger! The food was definitely over priced and lacked flavor in addition if you have any type of nut allergy stay clear of this place. Definitely not worth it! There are several vegan restaurants in our area and we have never experienced this! I want to give it 1 star but the system want let me!

This place is amazing!!! - Edit
I was in Charleston for about 48 hours and managed to eat at Gnome three times! The grits bowl and burrito were amazing for breakfast. Took my omnivore colleagues for lunch before we headed off to the airport and had the mac & cheese and brussels sprouts. Seriously wish I was in town longer so I could sample the rest of the menu. Excellent coffee as well! Definitely get to Gnome cafe if you go to Charleston.

I love this place when i visited Charleston, ending up stopping here 3 times in our 3 day stay! Not too many veg friendly places in Charleston but this place makes up for it! I loved their blt bagel sandwich, it was so darn good! And their sweet cinnamon pancakes hit the spot! I love the flyers they have up on the walls getting people to open their eyes about our environment and government, love to see a business spread awareness on topics like that! Such a cute place and so clean, literally sparkles. Beautiful plant wall and i’m looking forward to coming back here someday!
