Great cafe - Edit
Great little cafe to visit for vegans. The menu changes seasonally, with additional options on the specials board, and there are always plenty of vegan options. All the meals I've had here have been delicious, and there has always been a lovely selection of vegan cakes (and a raw cheesecake) for dessert.
Read moreWith its purple walls, herbs growing in the windows and funky artworks, Global Tribe has a chilled atmosphere. The kitchen is totally open at one end of the room, so you can see the chefs preparing all the food. It's a small cafe, so it can get busy at peak meal times, when it's sometimes necessary to wait for a table to become available. Also note that the cafe is accessed up a flight of stairs, so may not be accessible for those with mobility difficulties.
Pros: plenty of vegan options, chilled atmosphere
Cons: busy at peak times, building not accessible due to stairs

Great Atmosphere - Edit
Went there with my sister, who is not vegan. She had the English breakfast and loved it so much, she said she prefers it to a standart one. I had the sandwich and soup option, both of them were amazing. My favourite thing was the atmosphere, though. It was really friendly and chill.

Good value for money - Edit
I’m surprised at the comments about this place being expensive - definitely of the cheaper vegan breakfast options in Leeds. Vegan full English can’t be beat. I’ve been a few times and I’ve always been pretty happy. Good food, not too expensive. It’s a bit warm inside. Servers always seem a bit high and move slow but I’m never in a hurry so don’t mind.

Global Tribe is truly my happy place. Wonderful atmosphere, great choice and delicious food. The menu is clearly marked with a key for what food is vegan, vegetarian et cetera. Great for a snack or a full meal. I recommend the Chocolate Dream Shake!

Great little cafe - Edit
I was visiting Leeds today and went to this cafe with my brother and sister who are meat eaters. We just managed to get in as it was so busy and other people had to be turned away. So glad we had lunch here. Lovely food, made in an open kitchen. I had a roasted squash and beetroot sandwich which came with a lovely salad. We all enjoyed our meal enormously. Lots of variety in drinks too. I had a cherry chai smoothie. Yum!

Tasty, healthy, hearty grub - Edit
This place reminds me of being at a festival and being super snug when you find a bohemian, cosy cafe to curl up on a cushion with a steaming cup of chai. It’s got all the vibes of being somewhere totally far away and the food is really yummy, hearty home-cooked style.
Read moreIt’s quite rare that you have lunch and feel like it’s made with love, but that’s totally what the food here is like. I don’t often go for raw but I had one of their raw vegan salads and I genuinely feel like if others could replicate the tastiness and quality of theirs, it would make a lot more people open to choosing that option!
We ended the meal with a trio of homemade ice creams, and a portion that didn’t leave any room to even consider a side of cake.
Pros: Yummy, hearty food , Raw with flavour!
Cons: Could do more vegan options

A chilled out, whole-foods café in the heart of Leeds, easy to find, just upstairs of an alternative crystal shop. The environment was really relaxed, due to the atmosphere, staff and décor, which made a welcomed change from the bustle of the city a few paces away. Although this café is vegetarian in nature, there is a strong emphasis on veganism which is clear in the set menu, and specials. There is a brilliant choice of eclectic dishes for vegans, something for everyone, and the staff were very accommodating with our request to alter one of the menu items.
Read moreMy mum ordered the Mezze - Hummus and Pita, Roast Vegetables, Superfood Salad and Scrambled Tofu (not on Mezze menu, requested). My partner ordered the soup of the day, and I ordered the South Indian Thali. All was cooked fresh for us, in the open kitchen which was really exciting to see them all working, and arrived promptly. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection, this was our first time trying scrambled tofu, and whilst never having scrambled eggs before transitioning due to my egg allergy, I was told it tasted authentic, and it was really delicious to me. My dish of the thali was sensational, a gorgeous mix of items was presented beautifully, so many scrumptious items to eat! I loved how wholesome and nourishing the food was for all of us. It’s great to not just think the food is tasty, but for it to look amazing, and be so healthy made this place one of my favourites yet. Food for the mind, body and soul – exactly the ethics of the Global Tribe Café.

Need a hearty breakfast? - Edit
I came here for the first time to celebrate finishing my exams for the summer. I orders the vegan breakfast. Amazing! So tasty. The scrambled tofu was yummy, a smoky flavour and the hash browns were delish. A very generous portion. I could hardly move after.

What an amazing breakfast. I'm so glad we came here eventually to sample their delightful unique breakfast. We were lucky to get straight in as it was packed on a Saturday morning but luckily a table came free as we arrived. Looking forward to visiting again.

food so fantastic that non-vegans are fully fed & most satisfied. Menu always has Gluten free & vegan foods. Could happily enjoy a 3 course meal here. As a gluten free vegan this is a rare find. Menu changes often enough to not get bored of seeing the same thing. Menu retains favourites. Cakes are to die for. For the Peanut butter & chocolate cookies i have no words. you'd have to try them yourself to see what i mean.

Good food but crap service - Edit
I ordered the carrot fritters which were good. My partner got the American burger and gingerbread smoothie and really enjoyed both, but the service was not good.
Read moreWe had to go up and ask the staff after waiting for ages to get the menu for drinks. Then after that, once again we had to wait for ages before we could order drinks. This meant the meal really dragged on, so definitely not the best place to go if you're in any kind of a hurry!
Pros: Lots of vegan options clearly marked
Cons: Slow service

Quite pricey but - Edit
Ive actually been to global tribe cafe a few times now and each time has been a different experience!
Read moreThe first time I went i ordered a take out soup and sandwich (because staying in was so expensive!!) but it was really delicious- i had a gorgeous curried sweet potato and cauliflower soup with a spiced carrot fritter sandwich on focaccia bread. I highly recommend both of these, and the portion size was huge so I was able to save half the sandwich for later! This time 10/10.
The second time I went the food was good, but they had run out of about 10 things on the menu- without exaggeration- so our choice was a little limited. Also the food took ages to come and as i was starving this was a little annoying! This time 6/10.
The final time I went the other day I got a mezze platter with 4 items and that came with free pita and salad, so ended up being slightly better value for money! Everything that i had was nice, although some of it was really oily- the hummus in particular i couldn't finish because it was dripping in oil. Also the salad was very heavy on the dressing and would definitely have been nicer without! This time 6.5/10.
Overall I would say that it's a little bit hit and miss here, and considering that the prices aren't exactly chap then its got to be a risk you are willing to take. Also I don't think the food is particularly healthy, but it is obviously great to be at a place that is fully veggie and vegan with lots of options to choose from (if they haven't run out!). The staff are very friendly and the overall atmosphere is nice and chilled out, so it is a cute place to sit and i probably would visit again.
Pros: Friendly staff, Lots of choice, Nice atmosphere
Cons: Problems with service, Quite oily, Very expensive

very good but... - Edit
Food is all really good, a few many substitutes on the menu for my liking. Some of the food is a bit too pricey like my smoothie £4.50 and tiny. However the service is so slow and poor, first of all your confused table service or to the counter, then ages to order the food came quick but waiting for almost an hour for plates to be taken away and had to go to the counter for dessert. Our lunch turned into a two hour affair when we only wanted to be half an hour. So yes food really good, service absolutely shocking really, don't worry about a tip!!!

Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Edit
Well not quite Los Angeles but Leeds is a good enough match for me. This great Yorkshire city is one I have loved ever since 1995 when I bought a bass guitar from the legendary Northern Guitars on Call Lane during my university days. As is usually the case, I digress. I've known about Global Tribe cafe for quite a while and in fact we have been there to pick up a vegan cake once but today's visit was a craving for a post night out breakfast and breakfast is exactly what we had. We had the vegan full english as follows: scrambled tofu, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans and toast. The second breakfast was the Global Tribe special as follows: aubergine bacon, scrambled tofu, avocado, mexican beans, toast and cashew nut sour cream. Both were £7.50 and served with either a cafetiere or a pot of tea. Both were delicious. Aubergine bacon!! Yes indeed. The staff are friendly, all deserts are vegan, the place is fragrantly pleasing and it's just a great way to start your day. Don't expect to get seated straight away particularly at weekends. Seating is quite limited so be patient.

Small Space, Big Food - Edit
Known by many locals as 'the Hippy cafe' Global Tribe is something of an institution. I've been going here for years and on a trip into town my partner and I are almost guaranteed to have the debate 'global tribe or roots & fruits?' Situated above a crystal shop of the same name Global Tribe serves some of the best food available in the town. Offering Vegetarian or Vegan options and a whole host of drinks you are always spoilt for choice.
Read moreThe main meals are hearty and on a recent visit I discovered the vegan beans and cheese on toast. Have it on granary. Its amazing. The only downside to this place is its popularity. If you're visiting on a weekday it is very difficult to get a seat. Around lunchtime you might as well not bother. It's 'first come first served' and if you don't get there early there's no chance. Over time we've started to avoid lunch completely and go much later in the day. This seems to work well. Being upstairs means that you can't see how busy the place is from the street. This means that while you're sat you may experience a sudden draft as the door is opened at the bottom of the stairs. Not a problem in summer but in the winter this can be perishing (especially if an inconsiderate punter leaves the door open).
So in summary: Avoid lunchtimes and make sure you're hungry because the food and the service are superb.
Pros: Excellent Food - The vegan milkshakes are especial, Friendly and fast service
Cons: Almost impossible to get a table at peak times

Served me food with cashew nuts in, despite telling them I am allergic to them! - Edit
I have heard good things about Global Tribe so was eager to try it. However I was incredibly disappointed. Firstly, my boyfriend ordered a burger with no salad or sauce. It came with all the salad and sauce just with no bun, we explained to the waiter "I think you've a misunderstood, we said a burger in the bun, just with no salad or sauce". They then brought it back to us in the bun... But with salad and sauce. The waiter was quite unhelpful and not very friendly. He was obviously English and spoke well so it's not like there was a language barrier.
Read moreThe worst thing that happened was that I explained to the waiter than I am allergic to cashew nuts and he assured me that the burger did not contain any and also checked with the kitchen staff. So I ordered the burger and when it came I ate some of it and started having an allergic reaction (I am not severely allergic, thank goodness, but it meant that my lips and throat were swollen for about an hour afterwards and I had crippling stomach pains all day). Turns out that the burger actually did have cashew nuts in it. They gave us our meal for free, but I was very hungry and my reaction meant that I couldn't eat anything for a good few hours and it ruined my day completely.
Also, non of the waiters/kitchen staff wear hair nets and there were at least two hairs in my food.
Pros: To be honest, I can't think of any
Cons: Unfriendly and not very helpful staff , Didn't serve us what we ordered , Clearly not considerate of people with allergies

Lovely food- if they have it! - Edit
Went here for the second time last weekend, it always seems busy- which is a good sign! Staff are lovely and laid back. Friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately they had run out of a lot of options on the menu so I opted for the curry although I had wanted to try something new; but I did enjoy it. Plenty of vegan options and the best iced coffee, also, nice selection of tea
