Best vegan food in Reading - Edit
The mushroom burger is insanely good, I expected a squishy sub par portobello and got crispy tempura mushrooms.
Read moreThe drinks are extensive and great, been coming here as a bar for years. Really a hidden gem in a boring town!
Pros: A genuinely ethical place (runs as a charity) , Uses ingredients from their own garden , Amazing vegan burger

Vegan & Gluten Free - Edit
We stopped here for lunch, the staff are super friendly and the food was really nice. There were quite a few vegan options to choose from and a lot of it was gluten free which was a bonus. It’s also very reasonably priced.

no longer has Ethiopian food - Edit
We went here looking forward to eating delicious injera and curries, only to find that the Ethiopian place that used to be here has gone. This is primarily a bar. As other reviews have noted, the menu is small though completely vegan and vegetarian (all items can be made vegan). Unfortunately my review cannot comment on the food itself as they lost our order. (We ended up walking over to Miami Burger instead.)

Cons: Food is an afterthought, Lost our order, Didn’t notice they’d lost our order
GlobalCafe
Dear vegan_mum,
Read morePlease accept our sincere apologies for the staff's mistake. We completely understand your disappointment. Tutu moved out of Global Cafe a couple of months ago and opened her own restaurant in Palmer Park where she continues to serve Ethiopian food. The new Global Cafe Kitchen's opening times are the same as they were under Tutu's Ethiopian Table (Tues-Friday: 12:00-15:00 and 18:00-21:00 Sat: 12:00-21:00). As part of RISC we decided to become an exclusively vegan/vegetarian restaurant as it's more in line with the organisation's ethos of sustainability and ethical consumption. We are very sorry that you couldn't try the food because of the staff's negligence and we hope you give us another opportunity to make amends in the future. We're still in the process of developing and improving the menu and all feedback is valuable. Hopefully we'll see you again soon and this time you will be able to rate our food and not just the service.
Best wishes,
Regina

Good value, but unimaginative - Edit
Fairly limited lunch menu, and not the most imaginative of choices: I had the felafel burger (which turned out to be falafel in a bun, with chips); my partner had the halloumi burger (halloumi in a bun, with chips). But RISC (Reading International Solidarity Centre) is such a cool place, and what a brilliant selection of beers. I couldn't make my mind up between their numerous pale ales, so opted for an Erdinger dunkel weissbier. And the shop next door is great, too.

GlobalCafe
Dear Gerwyn,
Read moreThank you for your feedback. We're delighted to hear that you liked our Cafe and our carefully curated beer selection. On the other hand we're sorry that you found our menu and food underwhelming. The Global Cafe Kitchen is a new venture and we're still in the process of developing and improving our exclusively vegetarian and vegan dishes. Your feedback is important and we will address the issues you've pointed out. We aim to offer a variety of options and different specials each week so there's always something new to try.
Best wishes,
Regina
