Vegan options must be booked in advance - Edit
Despite phoning twice in advance to discuss vegan options and check table availability, the staff on the phone did not make it clear that the vegan options were only available if you specifically ordered them in advance. This meant we turned up with my husband's elderly grandparents and found the only thing I could eat was chips. To be fair to the waitress who served us, she was very apologetic and phoned another nearby pub to see if they could accommodate us and then booked us a table, but it meant we had to decamp with the elderly grandparents and go somewhere else despite our best efforts to plan the evening in advance.
Read moreI think it's unacceptable in 2024 to not have a vegan option on the menu and to not even have a vegetarian option that can be made vegan. The overall impression I got was that they didn't like vegans and didn't want to accommodate them. I would recommend going somewhere else.
Cons: Vegan options must be booked in advance., Felt hostile to vegans

Lovely home made vegan dishes - Edit
2nd visit since the G&D has reopened. Separate vegan menu now with a 2 or 3 course option. This also comes with a vegan intro and a vegan sweet with tea/ coffee (all included in the 2 or 3 course price) Food was lovely especially the forced rhubarb dessert. I feel a real effort has been made here. Will definitely return

Not very vegan friendly - Edit
Really helpful and friendly staff but at the end of the day there was only one vegan dish and one veggie one that they could change to vegan on request. Vegetarian options looked homemade and delicious but all had dairy. Such a shame and as all the food is homemade to order- such a waste! The menu is extensive, it wouldn’t do any harm to offer one fewer meat dish and one more vegan for those who don’t all like the same thing. No vegan sandwich fillings offered.
Read morePros: Lovely atmosphere and location , Friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Only one vegan option- a 3 bean burger, No vegan starters or deserts , Draught cola is Pepsi- not vegan

Very clear menu, tasty food, big portions - Edit
All vegan options are clearly labelled, including wines. There was only one vegan main, a dahl with cauliflower steak, and several starters. My soup and dahl were lovely.

Food was fresh but bland, pro-bloodsports pub - Edit
I came here for dinner last week and the food was clearly made from fresh, seasonal ingredients but turned out to be really bland and boring, and expensive for what it was. I was also really disappointed to notice a pro-bloodsports sticker on the window before I left.

Really poor quality & size, mis sold - Edit
I ordered the roasted & creamed corn, queried this with the waitress who said it’s several types of corn, sounded a bit like a nut roast. It was £13.5, same price as the lamb main for example. It was literally a corn on the cob. It came with some asparagus & a new potato cut into slices (“polenta chips”). Unbelievable really. Not a main & certainly not worth £13.50. The tagliatelle off the vegan menu was also small & very bland. Wouldn’t recommend. Unless you like a single corn on the cob lmao
Read moreUpdate: they did refund it & the vegan crumble was to die for.
Update update: please don’t let the update detract from the point, this was very poor.
Pros: In their defence they have a separate vegan menu
Cons: My main was literally a corn on the cob , Expensive , The other vegan meals were poor also

Yummy and good vegan menu - Edit
Nice place with good vegan menu (including desserts), portions are huge and service good. A little on the expensive side but not breaking the bank.
